GBC General Discussion
Ankoku replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Although I am not that bothered about Mindstorms in relation to GBC (I just like the idea of everything being done of one motor), I have to say, the way this manipulates the grabber really is cool. Also like how it is precise enough to pick up the balls.- 1,124 replies

The main thing I need to do is make the ball spiral lift taller by one section. I think that will keep everything fine timing wise. Will also give me some breathing room when it comes to the loopback. Keeping the slider pivot point strong at height will be interesting.

I am. It is on hold at the moment. Will be getting some new pieces for it. My intention is to raise the whole thing up so that it is GBC standards compliant, entry and exit wise.

If nothing else, take some photos and post for all. Instructions can be a pain to create, but a few photos can really help people and only take seconds. I am guessing the translation was lost more in the asking than the answer. I think the better question should have been: how much testing to do you at home. e.g. how long do you leave them running for. In regards to Akiyuki, sama would seem more appropriate :P The use of san etc. in English subtitles is a bit of a scourge within subbing. It really ought not to be there. It is a good way to tell a professional subtitle from a rather lacking one. A friend of mine did a bit of a rant about it.

Pretty good interview all in all. Small elements are lost in translation, but over all, I liked the questions asked.

Would be cool to see something like this used in a GBC, but if you look at the markings on the tyres, you get the feeling that it is rather unfriendly for prolonged use.

Akiyuki video of the GBC at Brickfest 2018 in Japan. Although not very smooth, I do like the design of the Flywheel launcher (The orange and yellow thing. Doesn't look much like a Flywheel Launcher, but there you go). I also prefer the idea of the train running the balls back, rather than the door frame approach you see at most events. It takes ages for the balls to rise up that high.

I really like the red & black rotating arm on this (You can see it on the right in the preview image):- 1,124 replies

Would it be worth having an Akiyuki Trains thread? They are kinda a separate beast.

Although not LEGO, this inspires! It reminds me of the LEGO logic gates machine people do.- 1,124 replies

@Berthil Great Invisible Lift video. I like how the arms of your beautiful assistant suddenly appear to add the balls! One of the things I love about LEGO, is taking either your own design or someone else's and making it better. I think that aspect really helped me as a kid. Also, running GBCs at an event really drives home reliability and the importance of testing and what you learn from that. Great work!

It is similar to my issues where the problems and differences only occurred at full speed and didn't happen when slowed down. Have you thought about videoing it and then playing it back in slow motion?

Maybe he uses something like Li-FeS2 batteries. Also, wouldn't using lighter batteries help? e.g. lithium over alkaline?

Came across this one a French forum. Quite unique. http://www.techlug.fr/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=11531 Have looked at his stuff before, but hadn't spotted this, which is his latest posting.- 1,124 replies
