Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
How is this handled in relation to NPC factions? -
Eh... So this was really not clear at all, it felt like "here are your options, also: these are the rewards". This was NOT meant to force @Mesabi into this option, we both assumed it was something gained regardless of the option taken. The licensing has been done already, so I do not know who is in charge of reversing it.
-
Aye, a lovely build. The lime green works surprisingly well.
-
A WTC trading outpost has been set up on an island at the north-east of Kemblarsi.
-
When months ago Count Mesabi started his expedition to the far south, nobody knew what adventures lay ahead of him. After stations in Pan and Kemblar, the WTC has come as far as Kemblarsi by now. As a sign of gratitude for rescueing her princess from a prison in Kemblar, the Kemblarsi had granted te WTC an old trading post on an island near their northeastern border. Here the rough Drolithic Ocean first met with the islands of Kemblarsi - and here the WTC set up its first presence in the South. . ============================================================================================== Licensed as a large commerce for the WTC in Kemblarsi. @Mesabi earned the license for this in his latest AMCRA turn, and I had the idea for this build. If you check the relevant map, you can see that Kemblarsi kind of fizzles out in some smaller islands on its far north-east. This reminded me of the Shetland islands, and I thought it would be appropriate for a trading outpost to be on one of the smaller islands. The whole thing grew and grew, for I not only wanted to show the buildings - with some asian influence on the architecture obviously - but also the island and some of the surrounding sea. It was also a good opportunity to try another microship build, and I am quite happy with the result. As always, C&C are appreciated.

[COR-FB] Trouble at the Terreli Tell-All
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
So if the KPA smears the WTC, nothing happens, but as soon as simple facts are stated in the TTA, people are beaten up and thrown out of their beloved workplace? What shocking double standards! This will have consequences! [/IC] Nice build though, clean and easy! I like the small front roof and the carts design. Well done! -
Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II

Around my place we suffer from an unusually long and dry heat wave for weeks already, which had quite some impact on my overall activity. Building time has gone down significantly. So I for one am quite happy that things go a bit slower at the moment. I prefer things to be done right, rather than rushed, so I appreciate you guys taking your time with this. It is also holiday season, so I doubt every bit of communication goes as fast as usual. So no worries, it is done when it is done. -
[MMM] Merrynight Mystery Mini-Challenge

The build for Lord Buckethead is finally up as well. -
After setting up his mining company near Mesabi Landing, Cecil Fernsby moved on to a project that he had long planned, but was so far unable to realise. In his opinion, his idea was pure genius - the Corrington authorities refused to finance it so far though. All he wanted to do was set up a new kind of school, how hard could it be? The concept of his "Gamma School" was built on three basic points: First, better funding for teachers, to attract bright graduates. Two, increased facilities for children, especially playing fields. Three, if any child misbehaves three times, they are blasted into the oean, with the parents provided with a lovely fruit basket, by way of consolation or celebration, depending on the child. Discipline is key! Cecil Fernsby - often called "Lord Buckethead" for his love of a particular headdress - was completely oblivious as to why nobody was supporting this revolutionary system. Until now... It was not before long that Lord Buckethead wrote yet another letter to the local authorities, explaining his idea once again. This time though, it ended up in the hands of Lady Agnes Mesabi - who was enthusiastic about it! The WTC would fund the first Gamma School, and actively promote its concept in the future. The first students were taken in not a long time ago, and by now the school was buzzing with the energy of young people eager to learn, and childs laughter on the playground. The secondary class - older students, already beyond the basics - were sitting in class taking notes from the blackboard. Todays topic was the Juniper War, and the heroic deeds of Count Mesabi in those days. . This was on the first floor of the Gamma School, together with a lounge for group studies. A piano was necessary for musical classes: chanties from all over the Brick Seas were of course part of the curriculum! Later that day, they would have more practical subjects. Work in the garden was an important part of school life, where currently pumpkins, potatoes, onions and turnips were grown... ... while the expertise in all kinds of weapons always had practical lessons as well. Handling a cannon is essential knowledge! The vegetables harvested in the school garden were of course prepared, cooked and eaten by the teachers and students. The basement had a big kitchen, to teach basic and advanced cooking skills as early on as possible. Today, a vegetable stock had to be prepared in advance by one of the teachers: . Meanwhile the first class, not yet required to wear the school uniforms, were on the big playground outside: . Every now and then a student was unable to keep up with the standards set up by Lord Buckethead. Rules had to be upheld though, and using the giant cannon on the roof shot such troublemakers far into the open sea. In this particular case, a mother seemed to be quite happy about it, leaving the Gamma School with a basket full of fine fruit: ==================================================================================== Licensed as large education for @Lord Buckethead in Mesabi Landing. This build is the prize for winning "Best Build" in my Merrynight Mystery Minichallenge. The inspiration came from the real life counterpart to LBs nickname, in particular his take on schooling, which originally states this: You will find the three principles included in the build and its story - with the slight change that unruly kids are shot into the ocean, not deep space. While the idea came up pretty fast, the build itself took what felt forever. LB agreed to lift the original deadline (April) in exchange for a large property (instead of medium), and I will of course pay him the DB the property would have earned him in the meantime (i.e. the income equivalent to May, June and July). I am just happy this is finally finished - and I will not hand out this kind of reward again. Lesson learned! A series of wideshots and birdeye views from the different levels: All levels can be taken apart for easy access to every part of the interior. The man building can also be opened up: Other than the long delay, I am very happy with how it all turned out. I consider this one of my best builds so far, and I hope people enjoy it for what it is: a mildly pirate-themed, not so serious interpretation of school. The concept fits Mesabi Landing perfectly in my opinion, and I plan to use the teachers, students and the general idea again in the future. As always, C&C are appreciated.

If you have a story you want to tell in or around of Mesabi Landing, you are of course welcome to do so. I would just suggest to have the Padre act under some sort of disguise.

Nice build, the idea is interesting and works well with the story! I like the Padre a lot as a character, and this story did not disappoint. Very in character for Oleon, well done! He should stay away from Mesabi Landing, unless he likes to being thrown in prison, flogged... and worse. The WTC does not approve this religious extremism and the mumbo-jumbo the Padre is divulging. OOC, I am very much looking forward to his next adventures though!

[COR WTC] WTC Monthly - Issue 8, July 618
Darnok replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I seriously doubt that torture is supposed to be "friendly". Glad you like it. The good Doctor has inspired me again, so thank you for that. All the WTCM recipes are "real", in the meaning that they are actually from cookbooks (sometimes from personal experience). I did all of them at least once, and I only include recipes of things I like. The public has spoken! Thank you. -
=============================================================================================== This issue is kind of early - the horror! Many thanks to @Mesabi for his highly creative contributions! The full PDF can be found, as usual, under the spoiler tag: There is no reward for the upcoming month of August, but you can still claim the reward for July! For older issues of the WTCM, or the other BotBS newspapers, check out the Brick Seas News Archive!

Nicely done! Keeping us updated on all the current AMCRAs in one place, good job. Right now (and until the end of July) this means 350DB! What an offer!
-
At what point are the active ships updated? The last MRCA turn is not yet accounted for.
-
Dwarfs to the rescue! Cool idea, and a beautiful mine build, with lots of playability. I love all the little scenes here and there. Well done!

Niiiiice. I think this is easily your best from-scratch ship to date (the IR is better, but "only" a modified QAR). The colours and lines work out well, as does the tumblehome. The figurehead is a great idea. The custom rigging I am not a fan of - I never saw them worth the effort, and I do not see it here either. The sails... eh, you already know that. How about replacing them with some sturdy paper or cardboard sails? You could print some appropriate pattern on the paper, maybe even a large WTC logo for the main sail. It can not look worse... Overall a good job though. Now let her rip through some pirate scum! WTC forever!

There is this trade mechanics thingy going on, you might end up in the harbour, you know? And you might like the new "taxes" for story purposes. -

Mesabi Landing is great for profits, and I am sure we could work out a good story together. -

I forgot to mention it earlier, but I love that you mentioned the Jolly Rogers ("full of noisy kids"). If you could build on its original story a bit more in the future, that would be awesome! -

Aye, one of the few current Lego kits that can be used in BotBS without much work. Already looking forward what you are doing with it! -
