Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
LM71Blackbird replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Mesabi: Overall not a bad looking ship so far. A few comments that I have... 1. Bow - As I have been told in the past, the bowsprit should be more level with the top deck. Right now the ship would look a little off if you left it the way it is. I'd build the bow up to the height of the second deck at least before attaching the bowsprit. Raising it up might also help with the large figurehead and make it look more natural. 2. Masts - I don't see a issue with the mast placement, however I personally think she might look a little strange without a third mast of some sort. There should definitely be something in the empty space whether it be a complete 3rd mast or a Xebec style sail. Other than that I think she's looking pretty good so far. Keep up the great work! I'm sure @Bregir will have something to say about it as well, but that's all from me. -

I'm sure the cannon batteries of Quinnsville will welcome them with a few volleys of grape shot! -

Nice looking group of rag tag soldiers! I like that you included all the different officers and such. Looking forward to the rest of the platoons! -
Beautiful model! There are so many cool details to look at! The rockwork is fantastic, and I like the minifigure placement. Keep up the great work!

Lol! You're welcome! I'll definitely be contributing to the university project! I was thinking about starting with building one of the gardens and possibly the stadium. Just trying to finish my first rate before starting on them.- 5 replies

You are truly a master shipwright Legostone! Beautiful work once again! Hopefully she'll stay afloat for a little while in the MRCA!

Your welcome @Bart! I agree, trans pieces don't always work out, but I find they are ok in small places like your stream.

LM71Blackbird replied to Mesabi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Your building skills are certainly improving Mesabi! The outside terrain is nicely varied and I really like that colorful tree out front! I do like the overall façade, but there are a few spots where you could have pressed the bricks together a little more, mainly around the front entrance. I like the detail work on the inside as well. The bookcases look pretty solid and the shields and flags are a nice touch. I think the floor would have looked better completely tiled, however that is probably due to a lack of bricks, so in turn nothing you can do about. Overall a very nice build and a good first installment to the University!- 5 replies

A very nice build Bart! The terrain looks great and I really like how the building turned out! My only suggestion would be to use some different color trans blue pieces for the water. It gives it a little better look in my opinion. Other than that, fantastic work!

Spectacular micro build Bregir! You totally nailed the shaping at this small scale. I am curious how she would look with some micro-size sails on her though...

Florida Beach House (Lego Ideas submission)
LM71Blackbird replied to BufBills83's topic in LEGO Town
As someone originally from Florida, I had to support this! #131! For future Lego Ideas posting, it is advisable to at least post 1 picture showcasing the model and your writeup about it to the Euro Bricks community. Also, if you add a clickable link instead of only the URL, you might get more traffic. Very nice looking model though. Keep up the great work! -
Splendid looking build! Looks spot on to your inspirational building. Great work!

@Mesabi I have had a few problems over the years with some of my smaller plates cracking on me. I believe that plastic can get brittle if exposed to extreme heat or cold. I assume that older lego bricks and plates will be more susceptible to this problem because the plastic mixture was different from what Lego uses now. I'm by no means an expert on the subject, so someone else may have a more scientific explanation for you. Hope that helps you out!

Thank you! Your right, I'll shorten the masts a bit. For licensing, I'm not sure yet. The HMS prefix sounds so good for a ship like this. I've been looking at a tons of prefixes and haven't really found one better. PWS (private warship) sounds ok. IC they are being build in Quinnsville so I could do HMCS/CS/QVS (Her Majesty's Cocovian Ship/Cocovian Ship/Quinnsville Ship). With 39 stat points, a class 10 can be a very versatile ship to have... Has the court reached a decision on small vessels yet or are the deliberations still going on? -

After much reworking and lots of building (with more to building to come!) here is how the HMS Resilience is looking so far. She is pierced for 120 guns on three decks and has another 14 on the top deck for a total of 134. Still have to add rigging, extra details and such, but this will be the final shaping of her. [COR - FB] Lady Belson - Class 4
LM71Blackbird replied to Flavius Gratian's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Fraunces: Flavius may hold a different opinion, but typical adding sails and proper rigging to ships are one of the most difficult things to do in LDD. Some people (such as @Kolonialbeamter) can make the sails and rigging look almost real, but it requires hours of tweaking to get the right angles. Opposed to real bricks with paper or fabric sails. So for LDD, this is fantastic work. I'm not coming down on you at all or discrediting your constructive criticism, just wanted to let you know. -

You're welcome! I find that to be the most difficult part of building a ship, but you nailed it! Well, worth the effort! -
