  1. Personally I am not a huge fan of Halo but I did get a few of the "Space Marine" armor sets from Brickforge. I really think that MEGA will have a tough time making a better looking fig. And if I wanted to build Halo themed MOCs I would just use my existing LEGO collection rather than buying new items. Leg godt on!
  2. I'm not sure what you're getting at with this topic. The title of the topic was misleading to me, I figured there'd be more than a photo and a question about what is wrong. No explanation? Well, Panda, what is wrong?
  3. I have the Forestmen's River Crossing when I was younger and I absolutely loved it. I actually have the baseplate sitting behind me just waiting for MOC action. It was one of my favorite sets when I was a kid and seeing this review really brought back memories.
  4. I am going to be building a Brig style with a British Royal Navy influence/theme. I have found a good looking model to base it off of and was wondering if anyone had any input as to what kind of figurehead I should use to decorate the front of the ship. In my brief research last night I found that the British Royal Navy used a lot of Ancient Greek themed figureheads and this made me think of using some of the Brickforge Greek helmets, shields and a trident to replicate this. Would that be a good idea if it was combines with a blank yellow torso and head? Here is a link to the brickshelf folder of the ship I am using as reference: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=82960 And here is a picture of the figurehead of the HMS Warrior which I will be using as an inspiration of that part of the ship
  5. Not accurate. For a pirate to be sailing around with a symbol that openly displays that he is a pirate would be suicide. Pirates made their plunder off of deception. Often they would hoist a false flag and once they were close enough for their target they would drop the false flag and raise the "Jolly Roger." If a pirate captain was to go into a port wearing a hat with that design on it he would almost surely be arrested, tried and hanged as quick as possible. The sign was a clear indicator of terror and evil and would be recognized by almost anyone. Even though pirates were not horribly common on the high seas the tales of their ferocity and crimes would spread and even get exaggerated as time went on. edit: dang, HMS243 beat me to the punch.
  6. No time to look online or eBay for sets but all the time in world to post a topic and then build the sets when they arrive... seems like a fair trade to me. /sarcasm
  7. I would love to see the return of the Armada. One thing I was just thinking about as I was reading this thread was that there are rumors of a pirate advent calendar coming out later this year. Now, what I am thinking is that we could see some unique figs in this calender which could include a Spaniard. This thought is just based off of what was in the castle advent calendar. If the contents are similar we could see some new figs, maybe even new color of soldiers, though this is mostly just wishful thinking.
  8. I work the same way (only buy what I really like). But all those pieces in a shoe box? Wow, that had to be a nightmare to search for parts in that tiny of a space since the small pieces all fall to the bottom (and there are a lot of small pieces in the Medieval Market Village). What I did was cut three sides of the front of the box off (yeah, I know, it ruined it... bu I was after what was inside, not the swell box) and open it like a flap. That gave me more surface area to work with so I didn't have to dig around too much. I dumped all the pieces in at once. Having the sides of the box allowed me to shuffle parts around while looking for another part and ensuring that no parts were lost. In all it took about 6 hous since I had to find all the pieces I needed.
  9. Umm... seriously, what is the point of this topic? The only thing I can see is that you want to showcase what sets a particular torso was featured in. If that is the case then you could simply show a picture of the torso and then put links to pictures of the sets. I could be wrong and this could be considered rude but I really don't see what the point of this topic is other than to show what sets they are available in and to let us know that you ordered some of them... no totally necessary.
  10. I forgot about that. I was thinking of the ones that I remember from the old tie Fighter PC game and X-Wing: Alliance from several years back. All of them in those games were the same due to the limitations of the programs and the interests of saving space by having all the fighters looks the same. Those two PC games are my primary basis for my knowledge about Z-95s since the only E.U. novels I have read are the first one by Timothy Zahn. It still looks great though!
  11. This is a really good start on a Z-95 Headhunter MOC. There are a few things I think that could be done to make it a lot more accurate: 1) Make the nose more like that of the X-Wing (more bulbous rather than smooth). 2) The wings need to be quite a bit longer, and actually, the slopes that are at the base of the wings don't need to be there. 3) The wing pieces should be square at the back rather than sloped like an X-Wing. If you can adjust these few things I think you'll have a GREAT looking Z-95 Headhunter. Here's a great pic of a Z-95: http://www.jedidesigns.com/picture_library...0HEADHUNTER.jpg And a picture of an X-Wing to compare the nose portion: http://www.eclectric-fx.com/model/images/xwing.jpg
  12. It isn't just the bricks from 60s and earlier that yellow. I have some old grey and white parts that are from the late 80s and early 90s that are yellowed. I do not know what causes them to yellow as my brother and I always kept them stored out of light and no one in our household ever smoked. I think that it is most likely just something that comes with age and use. I am sure that there is a way to clean them once they have yellowed but I am not sure how one would go about it.
  13. They are not intended to represent any particular nation at all. They are meant to be "soldiers" who fight "pirates." Kids don't care what country the minifigs come from or why they are after the pirates. All the kids care about is that the toy is fun to play with. And saying that they are Spanish because they are based in the Caribbean is not accurate. Many countries had holdings and fleets in the Caribbean. Though the Spanish were most notable for their transport of silver, gold, and jewels they were not the only nation that had property in that area. The British, French and Dutch all transported material goods such as tobacco, spices, sugar cane, rum and even slaves. They found just as much success in these dealings as the Spanish found in transporting gold. One main reason is that it is easier to recover from a ship full of crops being taken than it is for a ship full of gold (crops can always be re-grown, gold has to be mined again). I personally believe that "soldiers" represent the good guys, nothing more. They aren't British, they aren't Spanish, they aren't Dutch, they aren't French. They don't have any nationality. They are soldiers who are after the pirates. For your own purposes I feel that you should assign them a nation of your choice and in your MOCs represent them as such, because, let's face it... they aren't historically accurate to any particular nation or time period. Just use some of the imagination you have to spare after completing your next great pirate MOC to give them a nation of your choice. Oh, and in regards to the first post I think it's a great little vig. However I think it could be better if, instead of castle armor you use some of the old blue and red torsos from the original pirate line. That way we see that the new soldier beat the meg@bl0k5 out of the old ones. I think that would make it even funnier.
  14. You can easily find where LEGO has stores worldwide from their website. I look up stores every time I go on a trip to see if there is a LEGO store anywhere nearby. If you are looking for LEGO exclusives then you should look up the LEGO stores, it isn't too hard to find on their website.
  15. you have to have something in between your computer and this site for pictures to show up. If you are dead set against brickshelf then you can try flickr. But if you don't want to start an account at either (both are free as far as I know) then you MOC will be strictly for your own enjoyment unless you want to pay to bring us all to your house and show it off to us in person.
  16. My guess as to the identity of this mystery set is that it a clone brand. There are some clone brands that look a lot like LEGO and copy the set design to a degree. One case of this I have seen was a clone version of the Armada Flagship. I would not be surprised at all to see that the same company has copied the BSB and named it the Dark Shark.
  17. 1) Eddie Izzard 2) Robin Williams 3) Lewis Black
  18. I came home later on the 26th, checked my mail and was surprised to find my LEGO set in the mail. Many thanks to the donor of the set and to all the prize donors for this raffle. Again, thanks to sinner for organizing all of this. I hope that everyone here had happy holidays and got many LEGO sets! I thought would be my first year in a long time to not get any LEGO but I was surprised when I came home and checked the mail.
  19. Whoa. Those are all really good. I think that my favorite is actually Kyle Katarn. I've been looking for a good version of him for quite some time. I may have to copy hat design of yours and make one!
  20. LEGO didn't make Tommy guns, per se. They have made a gun that looks an awful lot like one. Look at the Batman sets. Most of those come with a gun that looks very much like a Thompson sub-machinegun without the front handle. I believe that even the new Indiana Jones Shanghai Chase has that mold of gun. I don' think that shotguns are much more far fetched than that.
  21. I usually build on my own. My girlfriend isn't really into the LEGO hobby but she does fool around with parts not being used when I get a new set, it sometimes annoys me. I am trying to find a theme she would like because I know she would enjoy it if she had a chance to build with some.
  22. I just did a search on BrickLink and I found that the ESB version from 2006 (Set #6209) starting at $45 (could be incomplete). If you are genuinely interested in it you can find a dealer that ships worldwide and it would far cheaper than an auction site.
  23. I have also thought Boba Fett was a great character. George Lucas has even said that he now wishes he would have done more with him as a character. As far as LEGO goes I can say that I have owned both the original Slave I and the newer Slave I (but not he Jango Fett version. The newer one is an amazing set and looks fantastic. In fact, after my house flooded about two year back it was my only Star Wars set that survived being packed up and moved to my parents house. It is now back with me. I think, personally, that it was one of the greatest Star Wars sets that has ever been designed. I don't think it is worth $170 USD, but I like it a lot. You might check BrickLink.com. They usually have pretty good prices and have most every LEGO set. I'm sure there are other members of this forum that can give you more info and hints of where to shop.
  24. My brother was at a conference in Chicago and I told him he needed to go to the LEGO store there. I was hoping he would pick up Soldier's Fort for me but he called and said they were out. He did say that he picked up a castle set that is only available in LEGO stores. I didn't even think about it but it could be this set. Not sure what else it would be.
  25. This is a neat little set, it has everything you could hope for: a minifig, weapons, a catapult. However, I can see a big reason that TLC may not sold this one: simply put a very similar item .
