[META] A quick overview of the map
Flavius Gratian replied to Mesabi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I think you have vastly overestimated the size of the known world. Considering no eastward sea travel took place whatsoever before Terraversa was availible as an acess point, I think the distance between the Sea of Storms colonies and Nelissa would be at least as wide as the Atlantic Ocean It might be because of the Mercator projection but I don't think you realise how huge the BoBS factions would be if they are the scale you suggest -
[MMM] Merrynight Mystery Mini-Challenge
Flavius Gratian replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
My entry: Midwinter Mass -
In parts of the Madrice peninsula there are people who have for ages worshipped gods different to those of the Faith: the Aesir. In Garvey, Namere and even Varcoast there are still enclaves, but the Old Gods' strongest foothold is in Corrington. Some claim that the Aesir have been worshipped since before the Great Empire. Regardless of whether this is true or not, scholars agree that it is old indeed. Archeological finds and old texts indicate that it was once a warlike and brutal religion, including blood sacrifices. However, Norse-mythology has kept pace with modernity and is today as civilised as any other, and in Corrington it co-exists amicably with both the Faith and the rational sceptics. In Wentham County, Aesir traditions have a strong influence on daily life, particularly around the Midwinter Solstice. After a great feast on Midwinter's Eve all rise in the early morning of Midwinter's Day to go to mass that traditionally it ends just by dawn. Here we see the townsfolk waiting for the Church doors to open. As befit their station, the local nobles and notables of Wentham County enters church first to take the front rows. First of all is naturally the Earl of Wentham and his eldest son, Vicount Altridge. The Earl of Wentham and Vicount Altridge Wentham notables For pictures with light:

[COR - Era II - Callenge 1 - Cat. A] The Garnet Inn
Flavius Gratian replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This really an excellent build! Probably your best so far (at least that I can think of)! I particularly like all the vegetation and the garden outside the house, as it's one of the things I'm lacking in my builds. -
It's not entirely clear what sizes fit what classes. Espacially considering the class 2 example uses hinges instead of prefabs. In general, the problem is inflation of classes, i.e. ships too small for their class, not the opposite. Personally, I think yours works well as a class 2, but leadership might overrule me on that.

That's a really nice looking ship! I like the classic pirate look, and all the nice details you've managed to get in despite it's small size (especially the aft detail and the monkey)!
-
Oh, my! That's probably the best looking raft I've seen in BoBS, so far! So you shouldn't be so harsh on it . I especially like the capes as sails, but there are so many nice details, the fish, chain, flag, bucket etc!

Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Flavius Gratian replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Hello, I hope everyone has had a merry Christmas! I for one got the time to finally try out rigging for the first time, so I thought I should ask you guys for some feedback. I know the ones tied to the aft deck are a bit lax, I'll see if I bother to fix it. Nonetheless, the rest of the rigging is strong enough for her to be lifted by the mast, although she is a little back heavy -

[COR-Ch4B] Plundering the treasure fleet!
Flavius Gratian replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I agree with SilentWolf that it's nice to see the close-ups! I'm also glad to see another ship finally outfitted for HM navy! I particularly like the handmade Corlander flag, I don't think I've seen our actual flag (as opposed to the standard lego one) on a ship before. -
Thank you very much! I'm actually really proud of the torso idea, I too think it works brilliantly for ordinary able seamen, giving them a uniform of sorts. Thank you! If I have the time and energy, I'll do a LDD build of the gunboats towing Icarus Returning out of the harbour (with your permission, of course). Thanks! I'm just miffed that I didn't have enough yellow "beaks" for all of them. Go ahead and borrow away! Convenient, indeed! I hadn't decided what to put in the background when I saw your post about the needed properties, so it seemed like a good solution. Yes, I will licence it! Don't think you have, but thank you nonetheless! I'm very pround the idea myself so it's nice to see other people also like it. I too only had one initially, but Bricklink delivered once again (totally worth it!). Thank you! I'm glad you appreciated the troop diversity, since Bregir gave me his gunboat for this mission I thought it would be fun. I also tried to give your regulars that scruffy, bearded look thay have (personally, I think anything less than a clean face is an affront to Her Majesty, and Corlander sense of order)

[COR WTC] A letter to Colonel Allcock
Flavius Gratian replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Intriguing developments, indeed! Who is this mysterious hooded person? What is the plan? Why invite the Crown to take more control? I can't wait to see where this collaboration is going! I like how you did the "first-person" perspective for the first image, overlooking the fort! The scene indoors could perhaps have been served by a bit darker lighting, to give a more mysterious feel. The fort is looking good, I like how you're integrating the jail to the natural rock, and the yellow-white colour scheme which give a very classic lego pirates look! -

My reinforcements have arrived at Mooreton Bay, and their meeting the local regulars outside a barrel maker. -
The situation in Mooreton Bay was tense following the recent developments of the Tyrell incident. When three armed vessels, two gunboats and a brig-of-war, entered the harbour on the morning of the 22nd, therefore, Mayor Hume was worried and ordered both the regulars and the milita assembeled. The sight of Corlander colours flying from the vessels appeared to bode well, but you could never what tricks those WTC might come up with. Thankfully, the brig was identified the Justicia, and tensions eased. Nevertheless, Mayor Hume sent Captain Willard and a company of regulars to meet the new arrivals. Mooreton Bay barrel maker "Good day, Captain! Lieutenant Lawliet Lavendwood of King's harbour at your service! I've been sent by Governor Cooke to support you during the Tyrell affair. I have a message and three carrier pigeons for the Mayor from the Governor, to be delivered to him personally. "Then I'll take you to him immediately. Glad to have you here!" Arriving at Mooreton Bay The Mayor's carrier pigeons Behind all the commotion the workers at the Mooreton Bay barrel maker were at it as usual. Being situated right by the harbour was perfect for buisness, as traders going in and out always had need of extra barrels. Barrel makers This is my picturing of Lawliet's orders to reinforce Mayor Hume in Mooreton Bay. When I saw that we needed some artisans in Mooreton bay I decided that this scene could serve. Unfortunately, the overall scene takes a lot of the space so I couldn't really show the barrels all that much. There are a bunch of them there, they're just covered by the troops. I could probably have used a better background, but I havn't fixed one of those photo booths. C&C is welcome! If anybody wants a close up of the pigeons, here it is:

[COR-FB] Mooreton Bay Courthouse
Flavius Gratian replied to Mesabi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Samuel Barlow Samuel Barlow is a temporary residant of Mooreton Bay. A junior-level diplomat, he been sent to the colonies to deel with the natives on Celestia, as more and more explorers move to the island. However, because of his stanting as a respactable Corrish citizen, on the way he has been asked to participate in the jury for the high profile case of R v Tyrell. -

Darn it! I had planned to make a small build as a continuation of yours, ironically just with a focus on reload time Guess I'll have to change it so it's a consequence of Cooke's assessment. Tuesday 19 December 617 AE, King's Harbour Dear Sir, My deepest apologies for not living up to your standards! I shall drill the men untill their fire is the swiftest in the Southern Isles. Rest assured, it will not happen again! I have recieved your orders and will sail with the tide. [COR-FB] Mooreton Bay Courthouse

I agree with Drunknok that the inside could use some more detail. The outside though, is really impressive, the "gatehouse", second floor balcony, and pillars all add up to make nice, yet imposing building! I also like the furniture and set up in the court room, although the lack of walls on the sides makes it feel a bit empty. -
[COR-Shiplimits] Gunnery Practice
Flavius Gratian replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That's a great build! I think you really capured the "movement", so to speak, in the picture! You should definitely be pround of how the background and foreground come together! I also like the story, naturally, when my own character features so prominetly! Hopefully we can develope a fun relationship between Cooke and Lawliet! Now I just need to figure out how to make sure Lawliet proves himself What! That's completely absurd! I resent that statement!- 12 replies

"King's Harbour 14th Dec 617 AE Sir, I have recieved your orders and thank you for your confidence! You can rest assured that King's Harbour will soon be protected by the best drilled gunboat crews in Nova Terra. I will not disappoint you! Very respectful, Captain Jonathan Cooke, HMS Ironsides, RN Lieutenant Lavendwood Colonial Governor, The Southern Isles" Lawliet was disappointed, it was no use denying it. When he transfered to the Colonies he had expected a command of his own with short delay, however, it had takens months. Now when he finally recieve one, it was two gunboats. Granted, he had overseen the launching of one of them, while waiting, but that is a command normally given to non-commissioned officers. Was this a test of some sort? Regardless, he would commit to this duty with the same vigor as always. His superiors would see nothing less from him than excellence. It's actually a pretty good idea, since I havn't been very active with him until now. I have (finally!) ordered the parts for the ship I intend for Lawliet's command, and most have arrived so hopefully I will have the ship ready by the end of the month. I'll contact you about at that time. (As said, OOC I don't have a problem at all with your orders, it's just that IC Lawliet has some streaks of a praise junky) Thank you very much! The mortar took some thinking, but when I figred it out it was surprisingly simple. The only downside is that I'm not sure if that top round plate actually is availible IRL. Yes, you're right! I thought about itwhile building but, for some reason I decided to leave it. Thank you! About the gaps, I spent quite some time trying to solve it to no avail. I guess that's just a drawback of LDD, it would probably have been easier with real bricks! P.S. I'm particularly pround of the mortar, because it's so simple. Glad you appreciate it! Thanks very much! Concerning the bow, it's the gaps blackdeathgr mentioned, but I think the overall design makes up for it

@Ayrlego It's looking good so far! Interesting choice to build below the sea line. I usually build a cross structure that is connected to the hull at the sides, but not at the bow and stern. The hinges are then moved as close as possible. The drawback is that it often leads to small gaps between the keel and hull, particularly at the bow. -
Excellent write up! I've also had ideas about starting a news paper in the future. We'll see if it happens now, I have to figure out a competing perspective first
