What a great collection of sets! I have a pretty good collection of Classic Lego, but not one of these sets. I did the same one year and built every one of my classic sets. The result was this:
-
Ya, I shouldn't probably post any more Playmobil messages, as this is a Lego web-site. Other than this, my only other message was about how Playmobil re-releases past themes. I wish Lego did this. It's funny, I was just reading on a Playmobil web site, information about Lego. They do the same thing to compare the companies and products. In addition, people are going to start thinking I like Playmobil better than Lego. I suppose I'm just in Playmobil mode right now seeing some new sets that have come out in December and upcoming months. Available in Germany now. They won't hit the US until December '07 or '08. Germany is about a year ahead of the US in regard to new Playmobil themes/sets. I'm not sure about the rest of Europe. Here's a shot of the new theme. I read the Colloseum is over three feet wide. It was mentioned on another thread relating to Playmobil (under History & Adventure I believe). Maybe Lego will copy.
-
These: I don't think so. Aside from the cheap plastic, they look so much different than Lego. They are much darker and more realistic looking (in comparison to Lego). They just don't match.
-
I'm curious as to know how well Lego fans like other toys such as Playmobil. Pirates are not my favorite Playmobil theme, but I really like Playmobil for the Western (my favorite) and Adventure. These aren't necessarily 80s sets, but here's a few more pics of some Playmobil Pirate sets and various catalogue images.
-
Oh, that's horrible. It seems that Mega Bloks has issues with varying shades of the same color as well. It's just too cheap looking.
-
Perhaps, but the theme is pretty generic. Others like Vikings, I would tend to wonder. If Lego does a historic Roman theme, then I would really think they are in fact copying. But what is your view of this ship and Playmobil Pirates Phes?
-
Very nice! I really like it. I love the addition of the canoe!
-
Yes, I had always been impressed with the design and quality of the ship. I displayed it for a number of years without the Playmobil figs (they looked too "toyish" for me" as I was getting older). The ship is well designed and has a removable metal ballast that keeps it level in the water. It floated quite well. In addition, the cabin has a removable top for playability. I think the ship was ahead of its time and I believe Playmobil produced it with minor variations for many years. Here's a better image of the ship: Maybe one day, I'll try replicating in Lego.

I was most excited about the Hoth set. >:-(
-
Very nive Berry. I like how you build the structure on a hilly base. It adds a lot of realism. I also like the architecture of the tower. The fire in the trees and the red and yellow color combination for the flags adds a nice elements of detail. Sharp!
-
Outstanding. Does the structure open? If so, do you have images of the interior?
-
No, I wish I could say it was. This is far beyond my ability. This popped up sometime last year. I remembered it and searched Brickshelf. I think the tauntauns are excellent.
-
I've been wanting a Hoth set for years. Great news! Can't wait to see this and the Rebel Blockade Runner. Should be a great SW year. PS. I wonder if the Hoth set will look anything like this (maybe the tauntaun)?

Barraks of the Rampant Lion Order

Very nice DS. I also like the Druid Tree House a lot. This would make a great forestmen hideout, and even an Endor ewok village. All your MOCs are very good. I admire your creativity and ability to design these great MOCs. *y* Oh, I was just admiring your Ninja MOC. That's awesome! I love the red bridge. The small building is very nice as well. Great work! -
Hope you all have a safe and prosperous New Year! -TheBrickster

I wanted to share a few images of my first pirate ship aquired in December of 1982. This Playmobil ship was unfortunately before the Great Lego Classic Pirate Era, but just as memorable. I remember staring at this set in a local toy store window for what seemed like hours. The display had fake water, this ship, some pirates rowing to a small island with real sand, and other pirates digging up the treasure :-$ . An English flag is depicted in the picture, but the set also came with a pirate flag. The pirate flag was orange though instead of black. I never liked it for that reason. I remember playing with this ship for hours. It was great!

Barraks of the Rampant Lion Order

Exterior architectural details as well as the interior rooms. Take a look: -
It reminds me of the jeep from Amazon Crossing, but white works better - esp. with the black zebra stripes. I would have really liked for Lego to design a Safari theme with some animals we haven't seen before. (I don't want to say it, but Playmobil has one.)
-
Understand. It's got to be better than the last. I actually own the last one, but never liked it. It was just too modern. Reminded me of a submarine base. In fact, it would have worked well with the new Aquaraiders.

The Crew of the Alcatani

Looking forward to seeing it. -
I just found this beautiful classic castle MOC on Brickshelf. It's called the Barracks of the Order of the Rampant Lion and Home of the Grand Master. It's one of the best Medieval buildings I've seen with very stunning detail. Entire Gallery: Barracks MOC

I just stumbled upon this set today thinking it was a MOC and discovered that it was a real set. Does anyone remember this set, 6672 Safari Off Road Vehicle? Nice Brickshelf Gallery of the set: 6672
-
Any more information about the train station? I'm also curious as to where you heard this info?
-
Not to get off topic, but I always heard these "mountain pieces" referred to as BURPS. Looks like the set has a few of the 2x4x6 two-tone rocks. I kinda like these. There's a few of them found in Gargoyle Bridge.

Which company makes better pirate-themed sets?

Not Playmobil?
