  1. I reckon it's an XL, placed 1 stud higher than you originally placed the old XL. The L will be used for steering in the middle of the chassis is my guess. There's 2 XL's for drive, so it makes sense for one per axle as per 9398.
  2. @kbalage 3x3x8 maybe for the L motor? Seems similar length, or 1 stud shorter than XL in the diagram, but XL seems similar in length to the prime ones (9 studs?)
  3. Yes, it's wrong. Good spotting! It's not that uncommon for LEGO to make a mistake in the instructions like this. There's no need for you to worry - you can have that part on either side without a problem.
  4. Just a note that this set comes with the 9 of the 1L beam in LBG. Seems there's 1 of them also in 42096, and a bunch in various creator sets (e.g. hulk buster), so not a 'new' recolor, but a handy one. Nice that this part is coming in more colours - works in many spots where a bush might otherwise be used, but is smoother. (I also reckon the set looks more like a Corvette in the brick than it does in photos - it was a fun build).
  5. 42009 to get it working nicely was reasonably difficult, mostly due to the long drive train to the outriggers. I believe 42056 and 42083 are difficult for similar reasons, though haven't built either. 42069 was quite a complex (and fun!) build example of modern technic I think - lots of form locking, as was 42054. Getting both apart is an adventure as well, as order is important. I disagree with the older models being harder. 8865 for example is straight forward - the longest step (step 18 if my 25 year memory is correct) is building the engine which has lots of parts, but is sub-stepped. Basically, as long as you got all the parts out, where they went was pretty easy to figure out - this is helped by having relatively few parts overall (900 odd I think - consider that 42093 has over half of that and is far smaller!)
  6. 42039 has a bunch of great C models available for it (including a lawnmower), and the B model is great. The main model is just OK in my view - pretty similar build to 42077 really, as I guess is expected. I enjoyed building the B model more.
  7. From memory (20+ years since I built it last) I'm 99.9% sure there's only one rubber band used - it's on the front of the engine. There's another thick rubber ring used around the steering wheel. Instructions are here, which seem to confirm: http://lego.brickinstructions.com/lego_instructions/set/5580/Highway_Rig
  8. This is superb. I love the unusual trailer, and all the functions are pulled off very nicely. Great work! Will definitely add to my building list! :)
  9. TBH I'm expecting the R9100 backhoe - i.e. pretty much identical except for the arm. It's an easy out, a legitimate model even if we might not consider it a 'real' B model. But I'd love something more!
  10. Maybe there are more pictures now, but in the (v low resolution) prelim it seems fairly technic to me. It has two 6x3x2 curved panels in LBG each side of the 'grill' made up of 7L red lift arms by the looks. Can see how a windscreen might be possible, but IMO it's just the low resolution. Wheels seem to be Mack wheels I think - they fit the same arches as the Corvette. Possible that the tyres on the trailer are the smaller ones from 8109?
  11. @jrx Thanks for the info! Did you see what type of battery the new Control+ system uses? Is it AA, or integrated LiPo?
  12. @NKubate That is great. Definitely appreciate it and enjoy reading your insights. Thanks!
  13. @Kiwi Claire Did you manage to get the voltage board into the battery box profile in addition to the 18650's? I always figured it was too tight for both, but have been wondering about using some smaller lipos instead. How large is the voltage board you used? Thanks!
  14. It's a bionicle torso. Quite a handy part to have around: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=50904
  15. I really like this idea, and agree it could be possible, but I don't think 2500 parts is enough for that given the Corvette is about 500 already? It would have to be pretty big and they're tending to make things a lot more dense nowadays (particularly if it's Milan - lots of great form locking :)
  16. One thing in 42039's favour is there are a LOT of C models to build from it, and a very nice B model as well. But agreed, for parts, the green isn't that useful. Given you already have 42069, I'd go for a 42077 if what you're after is parts for building other cars. My guess is there will be a large number of C models from that set as well - there's already quite a few. Also, with 42077 and 42070 my guess is you can probably build 42039 from parts in dark azure instead of green (just the 2L crossblock missing I think).
  17. Unfortunately it's a 1x3 liftarm by the looks. Secured with I guess the 3L pin with 2L axle?
  18. 42065 was a huge seller apparently, so I don't doubt that this will also sell like hotcakes. Not sure I'll get it unless on special, but I may well build it with parts once those sprockets become available :)
  19. Excellent reviews Jim. Those photos are something else. I always look forward to reading them - an especially appreciate the positive outlook :) I love the little details being added nowadays such as the fire extinguishers etc. Looks like a super fun model.
  20. Might the older turntable with the gear ring on the interior help with the drive? Pity it doesn't fit a bevel gear inside. Looking really great though!
  21. Picked this up second hand in excellent condition for US$50. I really like it. It has all the features I'd expect to be honest, and they're nicely routed to the top of the cabin. The small chopper and submersible are great little builds as well (chopper with both main and back blades connected, sub with 2 functions as well). I enjoyed the build and it's got a nice load of dark blue, DBG and red panels. Recommended pickup if you can get it for a good price.
  22. This one I guess? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNAoe6c-r7Q
  23. That's what I'm thinking too. Reasonable price, it's got a bunch of nice orange bits (e.g. 6 #3 connectors, wheel arches, large panels, 3x11 curved with 10 holes), has some of the black 3x13 curved panels, a 20Z clutch, the thin profile tyres. Plus a nice B model to boot. I can see a bunch of C-models coming out of it as well.
  24. That axle is the engine. The black 12T for the steering (lower axle) uses a blue 20T clutch on the engine axle to pass through via another 12T above the 20T clutch to where the hog is (8T at back). The engine axle passes over the differential then goes via a 12T to the tan 20T then onto the diff. i.e. it's definitely a 20T clutch gear, and blue seems to fit given it's in shadow.
