Quick update: Did not get as much building time as I hoped over the last week, but still got a lot done. Working my way from the outside in now. Tails and wings are nearly done, with all control surfaces in them. PF motors and rechargeable battery are installed and nicely hidden. Prop is driven by a motor. Can anyone spot the PF? Now I have to find a way to connect all of it to the center cockpit control stick... And I have to fit landing gear + controls, flaps controls and prop blade pitch control. And get my weight distribution correct so the plane will actually stand on its wheels. And make sure the structure is solid enough to prevent too much bending... Ah well, I still have a few weeks left...

Maybe just part-saving design, keep it as minimal as possible. Where else to put the receiver without extra parts and still have proper line-of-sight?

Technic 2019 Set Discussion

I wouldn't even be able to cook up a single review, let alone with these high quality pics and on a time constraint. Don't sweat it @Jim, we are all in for a laugh now and then, but your efforts on the reviews is appreciated throughout the community regardless... -

Don't be too hard on @Jim, we all make mistakes when we're tired @Jim: guess @grum64 jinxed you... -
[REVIEW] 42094 - Tracked Loader

Ehm... it's the back of the cabin? This set lives up to expectations, looks better even than on first images. TLG still has it -
[REVIEW] 42096 - Porsche 911 RSR
Rudivdk replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I get your point, but although it has no distinctive features it still has independent suspension on all wheels, steering with working steering wheel, drive with diff and working fake engine and opening doors and trunk. So IMHO if all that was missing 1 star would be justified. On the other hand, 6 stars might be a bit on the high side... -
[REVIEW] 42096 - Porsche 911 RSR
Rudivdk replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I feel Technic panels and pieces are still best suited for an approximate 1:10 scale, 1:8 is just stretching it too much... At least on official TLG builds that is, there are outstanding 1:8 scale MOCs, but I think their piece counts or building techniques would not be adopted by TLG. -
[REVIEW] 42096 - Porsche 911 RSR

Nah, just optical illusion, normal 1x5 liftarm, but the angle of the pic makes it 'melt together' with a liftarm in the back. -
On 42096: Nice review @Sariel, very complete as always. Somehow I'm still torn between (pro) it's looks and recoloured parts and (con) the lack of functions + load of stickers and (sloppy) printed arches to accomplish the looks. Will only get this when it's discounted enough to justify it as a large parts pack...

Same for me. Looking very good for it's scale and has a load of handy pieces for a very modest price. I think my kids will love this one as well and probably claim one for themselves. Again, nice review @Jim, your outstanding photography really make this one shine!

[REVIEW] 42096 - Porsche 911 RSR

Arches are smaller than 42056 (2studs shorter overall), and current wheels already touch the edges when you compress the suspension (check out review vid by @Sariel). So bigger wheels won't fit without compromises. By the way, nice review as always @Jim! Still on the fence about this set, nice parts pack but a bit bland as a set, although it looks the deal. Will probably end up getting one anyway -
Great, thanks, I'll first check what version I have than. Oh wow, you remembered... Thanks, gives me a good feeling to hear that others are enjoying stuff that I created. I guess it's exactly that feeling that keeps people like us spending time on STEPs, ROTSTEPs and all those boring commands instead of our bricks...

Just a question @1963maniac: how did you do that green highlight on the parts added per step? Used any specific software or setting for that? I saw that the instructions were made using LPub3D, I use that myself as well, but I never saw that highlight feature...

Thanks a lot, works fine now. Might be just because I was using my phone instead of normal PC... The instructions are fantastic, I can tell that A LOT of time and effort went in there. Really appreciated that you share them for free. Also thanx to @1963maniac, wonderfull job! I will definately build this model one day, after TC15 is done. Probably need to buy some parts, but it will be great showing it next to the original.

Is it just me...? I get a 'brick not found' error if I try to visit the BI url. Is the page set to special permission? I am logged in to bricksafe on my own account...

Sad to hear it's not working out for you... but good that you're not pushing on against your own desire. Having 2 kids of 5 and 3 myself I can totally confirm what @Didumos69 said, maybe at some point the 'demand' will get you back in the technic world. All the best with becoming a father (and your wife in becoming a mother as well of course), as I found out myself it's the greatest joy in the world, no hobby can compete to being a parent. We will remember you for the excellent MOCs you've created. Calling them simple doesn't do them justice in my opinion.

Technic 2019 Set Discussion
Rudivdk replied to dimaks13's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Slightly OT since it is about 2018 set but about sticker colors: on my 42082 crane (got it last week), the red on the stickers is also off compared to the red of the ABS parts. Sticker red is much too dark. It's even visible in box art and instruction manuals photo's. So it seems problem is not just on the new Porsche but on current production line, and apparently TLG don't mind that much... -
Oh man, I hadn't even noticed that part in your first post until now... I'm feeling kind of like a thief at the moment. For me the P38 is an all-time favorite airplane, my first attempt at building one out of lego was somewhere in the 90's... I also used to own a Revell model kit of it, but never finished it and threw it away. I think me ending up with the P38 was just inevitable... Please don't let my humble build stop you from building whatever you want for the contest.

[TC15] Skycrane helicopter
Rudivdk replied to Erik Leppen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Haven't read through your entire post yet, but from the pics it seems like you're off to a good start. Smart thinking in using old style beams for rigidity, these will help a lot. -
