The reason I use the hockey spring is it's compactness - it's the smallest solution by volume. I connected the differential housing to a clutch gear tied to one of the outputs, like Efferman did here: x-ray by efferman, on Flickr

Hope this answers your question: Got the rear swing arm suspension in place. It's only 13 studs wide (15 with the wheel mounts) and it has a limited slip differential. The final gearing is 1:1.5. Only one problem with that: I don't own a servo motor (and don't have money to buy one). I'm going for an old Datsun 1600 SSS rally car, based on this:

After watching a 4.5 hour documentary on rally racing, I think it's time I build my own rally car. The front suspension is already complete: a front McPherson strut system measuring only 15 studs wide (not counting the wheels). Next up: rear trailing arm suspension!

Not sure...It doesn't act like a diff anymore except in a few circumstances.

That's a very interesting concept, but I think it does the opposite of a normal LSD. Normal LSDs allow for small differences in speed (such as that in cornering) and lock when one wheel loses traction. This one won't allow for slip at low differences, but will slip under high torque.

Looking good! Only thing I'm concerned about is that gearbox, the driving rings and 16t clutch gears don't hold up too well under high amounts of torque.

Yay teasers!

Went out for a video shoot yesterday, but the battery died after just a few minutes of filming. Coming back within a few days to get more footage, but here's what I got so far.

Brickcon is really chill, there are non-Lego parts everywhere. Everything from Brickarms to custom lights to even a fully non-Lego R2-D2 chassis was there. Not to mention two Phantasm Twin Turbos with chromed wheels.

Prizes are more honor-based, although occasionally there will be a LEGO set provided by a sponsor of the convention. I used two balancing axles partially for symmetry, but also due to slack in the system. With just one axle, all of the rotational force would just twist the axle and not affect the suspension. This way, I have two axles, each pre-tensioned in opposite directions. Probably would be easier with linkages though This is actually my fourth BrickCon The award is just the engraved brick, which is mounted on the front of the truck in the picture above. (So no teaser pics this time )

It was decently sized Erik (Blakbird) brought 10 models, and Alex Holroydt (aeh5040) had a table of mechanical sculptures. There was also a rolling ball clock, a giant rotating tower, and a few other small models. Overall, not bad, but small compared to the other sections.

Back from BrickCon! I brought two models with me: the '68 Mustang and the model I've been posting teasers of -- a Jeep "Lower Forty" crawler. The Jeep won the Most Complicated Technic award, and there will be more pictures of it soon, as well as a video. Overall, BrickCon was an awesome experience, although I was disappointed that the Mustang didn't win an award. Maybe next year ;)

Something we should include is a bodywork requirement and maybe some chassis requirements too, because I could just strap a motor to a few wheels and call it a car. Otherwise, this is a very interesting idea
