But you would see the holes of the technic holes of the receiver in the trains since both of them are 6 wide. I can't see any on the photos.
-
I think that there is no market for a payed remote control app :D Serveral free ones would pop up in no time. You have to keep in mind that the trains still have expensive tracks and that the price shouldn't be much higher.
-
I don't think that it's related to Mindstorms. PF and Mindstorms are different teams and mindstorms sets last longer (the NXT lasted 7 years, that would make a new mindstorms come 2020). The NXT had it's best selling year at the end of the lifespan. Lego won't give us an app AND a remote. But I don't see them doing a Bluetooth BLE remote either as that's not the way bluetooth is used normally and it would be pretty expensive compared to IR. So either an app or a non-bluetooth remote. I don't think that they will use this one. Not enough power (it runs either on 3V3 or 5V), too expensive (because the battery is included) and too wide for 6 wide trains. Maybe some kind of variation that is battery powered and slimmer.

Regarding the new power functions: it seems that either the logo on the box is only a placeholder that doesn't show anything we will see or it's some new type of receiver based on bluetooth BLE and the WeDo 2.0 plugs that should be used with a phone. It would make sense because lego stated that they want to replace all future PF with the 2.0 system (http://www.technicbricks.com/2016/01/wedo-20-future-of-pf.html) and it makes sense to renew the trains first because they stay the longest on the shelves (and thus the older parts would have to still be produced during the next years). The sound capabilities mentioned can be simple sound files that you can play with a remote app from the phone (the first RC lego trains had sound included into the remote, too).

They don't want clone manufacturers from china to sell the sets before Lego released them. I think that Lego sees them more and more as a serious threat.

FETs are transistors, too.
-
But it's much more expensive.

I think that the train won't derail if it's all 3 waggons together.

Has someone else realised that there are no stickers on the trains? I'm pretty sure that there will be a sticker on the passenger train to better blend the colors.

Just some 9v train automation with Mindstroms NXT 2.0
Tcm0 replied to keverjeroen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
You can probably put a capacitor between the two power lanes if you are worried by PWM. That should smooth the signal.- 15 replies

[VIDEO REVIEW] TrixBrix: custom LEGO-compatible train tracks
Tcm0 replied to Sariel's topic in LEGO Train Tech
They stole the modular switch idea from 4dbrix. -
There was already a project like that: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/49a40d31-be73-49c8-8bb9-60bdbffaa74d

Do you have a prototype or something? I'd love to see how you fit the parts into the train etc. I'm working on something similar: an ATTINY85 (the microcontroller that gets used in the digispark) which gets controlled from the track via light (possibly infrared in the future).

How could I provide power and/or data coupling between train cars?
Tcm0 replied to TK2241's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Looks good. Is it possible to attach two of the parts to one coupler to have four wires (required for data transfer like I²C)? -
They have more friction (which is a problem in curves) and they can derail at the slightest hill because they can't rotate vertically.
-
Are you sure that it would work well? In my experience the normal turntables don't work very well for that purpose.

LEGO City Undercover being ported to other platforms 2017
Tcm0 replied to npgcole's topic in LEGO Media and Gaming
For those of you who want to play it in (almost) Full HD on PC (there is a bug with that you can't agree to the changes in the settings): 1. start the game, wait until you are in the menu and exit it properly 2. Go to %appdata%\Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment\LEGO City Undercover 3. Change the following lines (might work for other resolutions, too): ScreenWidth 1920 ScreenHeight 1080 WindowWidth 1920 WindowHeight 1079 4. delete the "CachedShaders" folder 5. Start the game You can change the resolution ingame, too but you will probably get a black screen at 1080p. The first cutscene seems to be directly taken from the original game and thus has only a decent quality.- 33 replies

Aren't both the same?
-
I think so. But it was just driving some agricultural machines around at one "height". But the models were 3D and you could drive anywhere you wanted.

I'm pretty sure that farming simulator 2012 came before the chase begins :P

[Will be updated frequently] Amiibo Transporting
Tcm0 replied to Tir McDohl's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Yeah, you can probably store the current waggons, the load of the waggons and whatever. A few numbers should fit into the storage. But you could also use lego dimensions NFC tags. They probably fit directly under the train and they already have studs to attach them. -

Tcm0 replied to Tir McDohl's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I think that NFC could be very well used for the trains itself, not only for display purposes. You could register wagons to engines, you could distinguish different engines from each other on a relieable way etc. if every engine had it's own rewritable NFC tag. -
Or he could use an adapter cable (lego sells two different lengths: 8886 and 8871).

Reminds me a bit of what happened with lego the hobbit where they announced a DLC for the last movie that never came. Let's hope that they try to fix as many bugs as possible until the final release. It would be sad to see the game abandonned with the current bugs.
