  1. It also doesn't even have to be that the creators don't know how to promote them. I remember one person telling me several months ago that the precise reason my projects wouldn't make it is because I was one of the people who didn't spam everywhere they could regardless of the consequences. That people with the decency to try to make their projects relevant had no chance. Still don't know how I feel about that. I think eventually I just gave up because I didn't have hours every day to devote to promotion! ;)
  2. Hi everyone, I'm back! (It's been months since I've been here, everything's just too busy). I'm not sure what to think of the redesign, as I'm kind of just letting all my projects die a slow death. I do wish though that LEGO had included the option to resubmit. Like when your project expires, on your profile it could have a resubmit button that just allows you to change whatever you need and then resubmit the project.
  3. Wow, haven't been back on this page in a while! I'm happy to report that the project on Ideas is now 3/10 of the way there with 3012 supporters!! But it only has 98 days left so it probably won't make it. But it's been a great run! https://ideas.lego.com/projects/66655f37-9622-4836-a2cb-797e916f4e2b
  4. I just checked, apparently I'm at 3373 projects supported (gasp)
  5. And then there are the small percentage, probably less than 0.03%, who support and follow everything! (I'm partly guilty of this). But these are interestingly the members that submit projects and are on the site almost every day. I think another limiting factor for some people is the fact that you have to have a LEGO account to support projects. Therefore views don't necessarily equal supporters. For every 10 who look at a project, you might have 1 who actually wants to take the time to sign up and support the project itself.
  6. His engines are gaining steam fast! Personally I like the train projects that include at least a passenger coach, (or more) lol! :)
  7. @Faefrost Yes exactly! That is LEGO's business model (I expect similar to almost every product-producing company in the world) Also bearing in mind that LEGO designers are paid professionals whereas many builders on Ideas are not. I simply meant that it would be an interesting process lol! :) And of course Ideas is not indicative of the regular business model through which LEGO gets consumer data (as you mentioned, niche market). An example being that Ideas is not a website that many people even know exists, hence the self promotion to draw views and members to the site itself. I actually found it amazing that there are 892891 member accounts on Ideas as of today! Of course one could get into semantics and argue over how many of those represent the AFOL population or non, licensing and twitter followings and whatnot, but someone else can talk about that ;)
  8. I've always found it interesting that some of the sets that TLG puts out wouldn't even get 10,000 votes if they had been put through Ideas first (Maybe not even 1000). That would be interesting to watch, if one of the regular sets was put through Ideas first, just to see what would happen! Obviously that would never happen since TLG would never do that, but it would be funny!
  9. WOW it's been a long time since I updated this, but here's some updates! This next week is going to move FAST! However, here's a couple pictures of the exterior of the second coach! The rest of the Bricklink parts arrive later this week, so the next focus on this train will be MOTORIZING IT! I tore the entire engine apart (due to mechanical inconsistencies and the fact that it looked too blocky, and have redesigned it entirely! (Following some well-made solutions given to me by @ColletArrow) Keep on the lookout for the newest updates as we zoom forwards into 2018! And, if you haven't already, please consider supporting this project on Ideas: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/f99d5194-bf98-4302-9181-a5201c4e4b64 (We've got 1589 supporters so far, but we only have 239 days left!) Thank you! :)
  10. Indeed! Good point @koalayummies. Let's talk about your chair! Lol jk. Or steer the conversation back to building types, or LEGO parkland, or why TLG can produce saxophones but not trumpets and trombones. Anything but the Great Face Debate
  11. Or one of those abandoned houses we saw being blown up in the LEGO Movie! But with the option to have a run down and a pristine version, like a 2 in 1 or something
  12. The pictures on the LEGO site are lovely! And the top floor is apparently a recording studio, which would explain the singer. Although I'm sure one could easily transform it into a radio station? Also, the reverse print of the singer's head is hilarious! It looks like he's about to sneeze lol
  13. Happy Holidays from the newly rebuilt town of Glacier Falls!
  14. Thank you everyone! I really wish that some of these colors were available in real brick, it would be so much fun to build! :)
  15. Although I wouldn't mind a re-release of Green Grocer as I was too young to know it even existed let alone afford it when it was out in stores. Maybe if it was updated and released along with a new modular...
  16. Yeah I have mixed feelings on the Taj Mahal. I didn't buy it the first time around and I don't think I will this time. It just never appealed to me. But at least that narrows down the field of which set belongs to which number now!
  17. I think recently the only modular that I wanted and almost bought was the Brick Bank. I think it was for those pretty windows. I ended up Bricklinking the windows instead, and when Assembly Square came out, I was tempted again. But because of the high price I decided not to buy it. Which is ironic because instead I blew a bunch of money on BL getting parts for the Academy MOC. Funny how that seems to happen!
  18. I think the color scheme looks cool! Especially the earlier pictures where it almost looks like it's glowing in the dark. Good job! :)
  19. Wow! I love all the little details everywhere! I must confess when I saw the interior pictures my first thought was 'where is the dining room' but then I realized the kitchen was behind it, lol! The pictures are superb, and the story is awesome :)
  20. Well it just passed 1500! Slow going, possibly soon to be eclipsed by Winterfield Academy, but I have hope! :)
  21. Thank you so much! They were loads of fun to design. Especially the conundrum of having them seamlessly fit into the top and bottom! :)
  22. I personally wouldn't mind having a cool old-style hotel. Maybe make it a French-style building. I know they did the Heartlake Grand Hotel a while back, and it's an unlikely idea, but one can dream. I think if there was a large-scale Creator train station, it would have to be stand-alone. Maybe with a clock tower!
  23. So I wanted to do something detailing the environment of a setting this time, rather than having a specific goal in mind. It started out as a library. I was going to have cool columns and a giant staircase, and then it turned into the grand entrance to a building. The building didn't quite come together right, so I made it into a futuristic train station! Included a couple mini figures, and there you have it! Here's the backstory I wrote up: On the far-off world of Palameria, the Senate of the Regency of Constellations is in session! Senator Cassandra Delgado, accompanied by an entourage of handmaidens and guard, has arrived at the capital. En route to a meeting with the Minister of Culture, Senator Delgado must deliver a mystical key, and receive a mysterious book in return! There are more pictures on the Flickr page here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/150692089@N03/with/37878034972/ And it's also up on LEGO Ideas! You can vote for it if you would like here: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/32c747e9-3b3c-4cbd-81d8-c4c05ae69316
  24. I just found a picture of my dorm room from when I was building my MOC! Last Spring, that is (I think since I had a single room it had more floor space but less space to move around). My solution was to basically use every available desktop, the top of the wardrobe, and the bookcase to stack things on! (I also forgot that I had my art project in the room at the same time).
