MOC NS2205 diesel-electric locomotive [updated]
Thomas Waagenaar replied to LL1982's topic in LEGO Train Tech
That's a nice looking 2200! Especially the second set of pictures, it looks great for a 7 wide, still fitting with your other stuff with the classic elements The new bogies without the grey are definitely a massive improvement! Looking good 👌 A 5L axle might be a tad too short actually, going to be close. Worst case scenario you could always cut down a 6L axle? They're not expensive luckily, haha -
She looks great! Honestly the sweet spot for narrow gauge really seems to be 8w! You said you wanted to do it with Powered Up, but how about a circuit cube? Those motors are only the size of 2 stacked 2x4 bricks. So they're really small, and you might be able to get away with it that way? After all, only one axle needs a gear, the coupling rods will do the rest, haha

A month without ANY kind of information, response of reply is just bad business in all cases. He clearly has had the time to post on social media, as such, a short message along the likes of "Sorry for the issues, we're working on it. Please be patient." would have taken much of the frustration out of the air and not taken too long. Murdoch is completely valid in wanting it either cancelled via OKBW, or via PayPal. Just had to keep in mind that if he does it via PayPal, he will likely not be able to ever buy from OKBW again because it wouldn't surprise me if they blacklist him then 😬. Either way, I would say invest in a 3D printer and learning how to CAD, or comission someone for it. Because I design and print my own wheels for a fraction of the price and can make them exactly perfect to the prototype. And sure, they're not injection moulded, but if they wear down too much I can just print another set for a few cents... 😅

Thankss!! Honestly I thought all our old steamers were dark green, didn't know of any dark blue ones existing! Though the 56.2 has actually served at Eindhoven for a few years, I think 2 units did? The CADA L motor works really well, though It don't have any PU motors so I can't compare. But they're similarly priced, though the CADA's seem to be a lot more powerful than the PU versions in the same size package as PF motors!

Thank youu!! For the rods I printed them multi-colour, as I've got a Bambu A1 Mini with AMS, so it's pretty easy to keep it consistent without having to print a seperate insert or paint anything that way. They're actually not fragile at all! They're thin enough where they're very flexible. The only place where it can break is on the pins themselves, as I opted to print those instead of using like thin wire or bars or anything like it. So whenever I bring it anywhere, I always make sure to print a few spare pieces so I can do emergency repairs. Though so far it hasn't been needed, luckily!

That is very true! I'll definitely order a bunch of test parts once I start on the 38! Especially if it's just these small parts, not really noticeable!
-
So, I got a shipping quote for ordering the same part from Canada but real Lego, but it's quite expensive... 😬 How is the colour match on this one compared to the Lego colours? Because if it's pretty much the same, might as well, haha
-
It really is getting more and more tempting! 🫣😂 Especially since I'll likely need to get on it for the boiler of the 38 anyways 😬
-
Thank you very much! Annoyingly, that is one of the issues I'm running into as well... Especially the clips, because there's almost none of them in dark blue... 🥲 At least the importing of them is for a good reason? Hahaha
-
Thank you! The colours definitely carry a lot of the weight, if it was all black, most of the details probably wouldn't stand out either, same for the running gear if it was all red, would just drown in colour that way 😬
-
Thank you! Thankss! R56 was my goal with designing this locomotive, since I don't have much space at home to actually run trains if I were to use R104... So the R40 was just a happy accident in the end, haha

On a pure decibel level, this one is definitely worse than a circuit cube. However luckily, it's mostly a low rumble from the spinning and gears, and not that annoying high pitched coil whine of the circuit cubes 😅 Definitely "lucky" on having a whole bunch in stock then! With the 3.0, it pretty much ended up for the BuWizz being like 70% of the cost of the model, even with the super rare dark blue O-clips I had to import 😬 The CADA M motors seem like a solid alternative, yeah! Might have to use those in the future as well if I run into a low-space case as well! Especially if I ever decide to make a 64 or something after my 38, haha

Every time she came into the side room, she definitely announced herself with how loud she was, impossible to miss as well, hahaha Thank you very much! It was nice meeting you too, glad to have been there at NLGM! Thank you!! And again, thank you for the amazing decals too! The piece is actually the antenna piece (2569) with the base and top cut off. It fits exactly through the 3mm rigid hose, so I've cut small sections of that to fill the clips, and then the antenna through that to work as handrails. This way it properly stands out from the pipes that are thicker. Not really purist, but I've not gone that route anyways as per the wheels/valve gear as well as drilling holes for wiring of the LED's, and for a super common 1ct piece, I'm not too bothered with cutting it up... 😅 If you don't mind the loud noise (not coil whine, but loud spinning noise), you can use CADA motors, they're the same profile as the PU L motor, but 1 stud shorter, so the same length as the PF L motor. Much more powerful than the PU L motor too, so that kinda compensates for its size, in a way, haha

Hello everyone, I am back again with yet another classic German locomotive. This time it is a Baureihe 56.2, or a Prussian G8.2 before. For the colour scheme, as I'm still not a fan of the classic black and red (Way too boring still, haha) I have opted for a Dark blue and black, with grey running boards and red accents on the valve gear. Just like my previous models, she has the full set of front and rear lights, and an accurate valve gear and proper wheelset designed and printed by myself, and she is powered by a Buwizz 3.0 Pro (They no longer make and sell 2.0's), and for the motor it's a CADA L motor. Which means she's loud, but very powerful, especially since she's down geared to match a realistic scale speed of around 60-65km/h. Surprisingly, she is also somehow still capable at running around R40 curves, and has almost no gap between her tender and cab! For the text decals, I have to thank Sven! In this video, you can see the valve gear in action. And as a bonus, here is a picture I took at NLGM 2026, where she made her debut! I only managed to finish her the day before the event, and she ran really well! Except she's too light to properly go up steeper slopes with a heavy load (10+ wagons)... So in the next few weeks, I'll be tweaking her frame a bit to stuff as much weights as I can in there. As well as make some changes to the wheels to try different O-Rings, rubber bands and other things. After that, well... I guess she does need a lot more wagons to pull, as I've only got 6 now. So in the next few months, I'll hopefully have another collection to show!

That is very true! However you could solve that by doing the same to some bushings, that way you pretty much just force the gear to stay in place and unable to be un-aligned because the bushings will keep it "straight", so to speak An o-ring, whilst sounding great, will mostly just end up slipping. I've tried that before but it wasn't worth the hassle to be honest...
