DC Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion
RedHoodPug replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
So come on Lego, the ball is in your court having stated that you put out more Marvel sets because they had more films out. Here’s hoping you don’t just rest on Batman’s laurels and actually give us something from one of the others. -

What a ridiculous plot twist. Bad news, the rumoured DC set that could have been one of the best was nothing more than a rumour. Good news, it’s really going to be a set that is Marvel’s answer to Dobby’s sock. Can we do a 501st battle pack for the Tower? -

Okey doke, so an art set composed of black and gunmetal grey, with a hint of yellow. I admire their ambition. -

I think I would cry if Lego decided to make a TSS/Peacemaker tie-in of any sort that was con exclusive. -
The Bond part aside, Lego do like a Dodge Charger. And who can blame them? I’ve been considering getting some of the SR sets for the vintage cars, and now I’ve got no excuse thinking about it, throw in Ecto-1 and the deLorean, and there’s a subliminal movie car theme here too. Ok, so I’m two up so far, now I just need to try really hard and get a third.

To be fair, there's a HUGE difference between most of these fantasy killers and James Bond. From Start to Finish: The Killing Joke torso is based on something dark, sure, but the overall figure is clearly removed enough from that context (he has a big duck floatie, for pete's sake) that I can see why it didn't have parents in an uproar. Carnage routinely appears in kid friendly content. Deadpool appeared in kid friendly content frequently back when his figure was released (I actually was introduced to the character via the 2014 spidey cartoon), and after his movie released, lego very clearly backed off of deadpool figs despite his popularity. Punisher was based on his classic comics appearance, which was more in line with what lego would produce, and even then the designer stated he only made it in to the bugle because it was 18+. Mola Ram is pretty bad, I grant you that, but he was very clearly an outlier, and as the main villain of the movie, he kinda had to be there, since the heart thing was just one scene. Anakin's killings are all clearly fantasy, and even then lego doesn't make sets based around order 66 or his implied murder of kids. Plus, it's star wars, are you really gonna say Revenge of the Sith and Casino Royale are around the same level of violence? The LoTR and Hobbit books and movies are of course fantasy and kid-friendly enough, avada Kadavra is a fantasy spell in a children's book series (I like the books but c'mon, they're for kids, and isn't there a rumor that even then lego isn't doing sets that would be associated with the Deathly Hallows films?). And again, the Incredibles movies are for children. Great movies, but they're not exactly deadpool. Being too dark is most certainly the reason there aren't system james bond sets. Sure, you might say they could do stuff based on the less gritty earlier films, but those were still a level more violent, and more importantly had more realistic violence compared to lightsabers and wands, and of course even they had...adult situations, which lego is much more strict on. I think the only property they've done system sets on that's even remotely close to Bond in that regard is Eternals, and I doubt lego was appraised of that scene beforehand. The Killing Joke Joker is an alternative skin in the original Batman game. If you want to go further than heinous character of the Joker, lots of DC villains are messed up. Deathstroke has a history of paedophilia and grooming. Tarantula raped Nightwing. Lobo killed his entire race. Aside from the rest of it, saying it’s clearly fantasy doesn’t make it any less violent. Most of Bond’s less than chivalrous behaviour occurred during previous incarnations, which were most certainly not based in reality. Toy companies have been making Bond toys since Goldfinger. Lego doesn’t have to make sets based on the Daniel Craig era if they consider it too dark - one only has to look at their obscure policy with the later HP books to see that in action. It’s nonsense to think that it’s not at all possible.

One would assume that weapons and killing would be involved, which covers DC, Marvel, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, LoTR, Harry Potter, and Incredibles at least. Thematically Lego has used The Killing Joke Joker costume, the child-friendly Carnage, Punisher, and Deadpool, Mola Ram and his unorthodox cardiectomy, the near-indiscriminate killings of Anakin Skywalker, most of the malevolent forces in Middle Earth, the Avada Kadavra spell, and the myriad dark themes running through the Incredibles films. Bond being too dark is unlikely to be the deciding factor for the permanent binning of a Lego game. Incidentally that Wiki provides no sources for those claims.

I think us DC fans are currently in the minority when it comes to Lego, so as disappointing as this might be I’m not surprised. We covered this a while back when the idea of a Batmobile collection was first speculated. As someone who reluctantly stopped the Batman Automobilia Collection series early, I can say with confidence that there’s plenty of scope for some interesting builds, with both comic canon, non-canon, and other media versions available. Assuming that this Tower of Fate is legit, it proves that there is so much scope for DCU builds. I wouldn’t have put the tower near the top of my own list personally, but hey it ticks way more boxes than the Batmobile and chompy Joker trike or the Batwing getting help from Shazam in order to catch the Riddler. There’s so many more Bat-family members and rogues if you want to stay within that particular niche, and hundreds more in the further universe. I wouldn’t however call the D2Cs an annual thing. The extent of my knowledge sees no obvious anti-magic Batsuit, unless they spitball one. Hellbat is pretty close, but most of the time he relies on magical comrades to cover his back. Lego aren’t afraid of sticking Bats where he isn’t needed, and they aren’t afraid of skimping out on a new suit for him. The Batman sets use a previous version of the cowl rather than devise a new one. -

@Mr Noright ok. If you’d suggested that in 2015 I would have possibly agreed with you as that was the age of job-specific Batsuits. That suit in particular is from Brave and the Bold, is it not? From an episode that doesn’t feature any of the characters rumoured to be in the set. I just think that the context is a little wonky for it. I’ve got Knight Batman from Dimensions, I’d rather have Batman Beyond, but his presence would be even more questionable. -

For £100 there’s the potential for a set the size of the Burrow and six minifigures. I know the Burrow was less but as a recent comparison it’s fairly close. There’s a lot of magical characters that could go in a set this size, and given how these sets tend to go I think it’s only fair that we get the JLD rescuing Batman from the ILD. Batman at this stage should just be a free, bonus figure not included in the price of the set so no budget is wasted on dragging another one out of the Overproduced Minifigure Bin. At a push I’m good with a Bat monster truck as a side build. -

I have but two requests going into this set: 1 it has minifigures 2 they include new characters and designs Granted these are standing requests for any DC set these days, but a man’s gotta have hope! -

No worries. I saw as much as is posted on the first page of the thread; he’s coming in a set. I’m not as invested as others so I didn’t make note of who, when or where I’m afraid. Honestly I want to see something DC as much as anyone, but I’m not so desperate that I’d make something up or put all my stock in a rumour. If it amounts to nothing I’m not surprised, but if it is real I’m happy. The way Lego has dropped the ball with DC is forcing me to consider other avenues for my kicks, which I really don’t want to happen. I would accept a monster truck -

I saw what amounts to a rumour somewhere on social media, that’s the thing. Subsequently I saw people speculating about it and it’s existence. Just because you haven’t seen something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Repeating what Brickbob said doesn’t change what I saw. The most ridiculous thing about this argument is that it is just a rumour, and by definition might not even be true. You’re getting wound up about something that you can’t prove happened and ultimately might not even come to fruition. Stamp your feet all you want, I don’t care, but you don’t get to tell me what I have or haven’t seen on the internet like you’re the keeper of the rumours. It’s no wonder fan communities are seen as toxic. -
DC Superheroes 2022 - Rumors & Discussion

When the blurb for the character encyclopaedia first mentioned him it was speculated that he would be the included figure, much like it was speculated that the figure would be Guy Gardner. When it became apparent that the figure with the book was not Klarion but will in fact be Val-Zod, a rumour soon started that he (Klarion) would instead appear in a set. It’s even made it as far as the opening comment on this thread, where 2022 sets are/will be listed. It wasn’t speculated, it was rumoured, hence my comment that sparked various haughty responses. The rumour might not have originated on this message board, but it existed nonetheless. Hereafter, I will continue to speculate about the rumoured upcoming set with Klarion in it, until such a time as when the rumour can be proven or disproven. In essence I’ve heard he’s coming in a set, rather than I think he’s coming in a set, as per your definition here. It might have been a false rumour to start with, but it was a rumour all the same. -

Rumours are based on something not yet proven to be true. There’s a rumour about Klarion, but we can only speculate on what it is because nothing has been disclosed. Ditto BB. I can speculate that Klarion could come in a set with Etrigan. I’ve nothing to base that on other than the rumour that he’s coming. I can also speculate that the rumoured £500 set will be Arkham. That’s how those two words work. -

Not entirely true, there’s something rumoured with Klarion and the odd renewal of the Batman Beyond ™️. There are rumours, they’re just well, tenuous. Honestly if there were things to be talking about, I would be.
