Seen em, had one; mediocre. Lego today > Lego back then. Build a time machine.

Two pages ago (edit: a mere 6 hours ago) you posted a pic of the 2022 passenger train set; there are three train-focused city sets for this year.

I was told there would be hordes of tattered-clothed, unsanitary, grotesquely-wounded hairy buccaneers. And only one chick in the entire West Indies! Utopia.

They probably don't want to turn all their little wide-eyed customers into misanthropes.

Yeah it's way, way cooler than proselytizing on a Lego forum.

I agree that its much more fun to create, but the people getting and building sets to display are nonetheless helping the hobby by keeping the manufacturer afloat. Some MOCers may not acquire anything new for long stretches as once a collection of pieces is amassed it can be reused indefinitely. I don't think I've gotten any new Lego in over a year (the shopping algorithms probably assume I died) while those that are regularly scooping up sets and displaying them are helping sustain and grow TLG. From what I've heard talking to other builders they enjoy the therapeutic aspects of building from instructions and having nice, cool looking things in their place. However the trend of posting giant piles of unopened sets is weird. I can appreciate the ones where they say they can finally afford the things they want or never had Lego as a kid so they splurged, but the repetitious "look at my recent haul!" posts are a bit braggadocious and should be downvoted or ignored.

Help with identifying parts/sets!

Agree about that one. Just went around looking at off brand tank sets and now my search results will be forever ruined -
"Capitalism consists of irrational activity, such as the purchasing of commodities only to sell at a later time when their price appreciates (known as speculation), rather than for consumption. Therefore a crucial criticism is that making money, or accumulation of capital, does not correspond to the satisfaction of demand (the production of use-values).This spurs the development of new, non-productive industries that do not produce use-value and only exist to keep the accumulation process afloat. An example of a non-productive industry is the financial industry, which contributes to the formation of economic bubbles." Source.

Youtube lego video thieves watchdog thread
koalayummies replied to SNIPE's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Did you miss the first sentence of the post you quoted regarding the profiting off other people's intellectual property without informing them or sharing the income? And no they were not crediting the original creators. But this thread isn't really about the opinion of what constitutes theft so I'm not going to reply further as the OP wanted this thread to be about highlighting those currently perpetrating the grievance. I merely replied with an example to call attention to an overlooked aspect of MOC theft in the form of directly profiting from other's work via video ad revenue (as opposed to the classic example of selling of other's instructions). -
He's always building! This is outstanding. So many great techniques throughout, those snot window frames, the octagonal corner, that domed roof and the nougat and reddish brown go so well together. Once again your mini builds are fantastic as well, those birds! And showing your design for the round roof is so very cool, masterful techniques and construction. Absolutely brilliant!

Yeah that's the one, the thread discussing it was in trains but they took from all over. -

And also the thief profiting off other's work via the ad revenue on the videos. There was a thread here not too long ago about an individual on U-Toob who had taken a bunch of EB members freely shared digital files (LDD/studio/LDraw etc) from Bricksafe/Brickshelf links, turned them into build instruction videos and was collecting a decent amount per ad view. -
What a very clean and classy modular. Great color choices and facade texturing combined for a sophisticated and realistic looking set of buildings. Wonderful MOC!
-
The meticulous accuracy you've build here is incredible. It's model train level of detail. What a remarkable joy to look at; the time, effort and patience this must have required is amazing. Fantastic creation you two!

That is simply beautiful. It is mesmerizing. Absolutely wonderful creation.

The shift from creativity to consumer fan base?
koalayummies replied to mikaelsol's topic in General LEGO Discussion
No! No retail sets whatsoever! Everybody just build what you got on-hand only. (I'm joking Lego Group please do not sneak up on me and make me step on bricks) -
Yeah it all depends on how the instructions were created. For example if they use LDD's 'instruction' feature then it'll do that weirdness where it breaks it up into arbitrary sub-assemblies that make little sense to the flow of a build. In those cases it'd be best for the creator to just turn over the digital file and not rely on the software-created instruction.

Lego Licensed Parts available from Bricks & Pieces
koalayummies replied to LegoPercyJ's topic in LEGO Licensed
I realize this was posted a while ago, I found these old posts by searching after attempting to use the B&P site after not using it for some time but couldn't paste text-copied part IDs making the whole part-availability-search process very tedious and slow. They're just blocking your ability to paste into their website form fields. For those who haven't used B&P in a while and are now discovering you can't paste part numbers here is the copy/paste fix for Firefox: https://www.howtogeek.com/251807/how-to-enable-pasting-text-on-sites-that-block-it/ "Some companies think they’re increasing security by disabling your ability to paste into form fields..." -
This is one of the most gorgeous MOCs I've seen in a long time. Really nailed the aesthetic and feel of the inspiration. The Earth/Sand green for foliage color helps the dry and arid feel and a perfect blend of tiles and studs for that trampled but rough terrain. Upside-down treasure chest lid as a planter is clever. Fantastic end to end.

[REVIEW] 40559 - Road Runner & Wile E. Coyote
koalayummies replied to Bob De Quatre's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Excellent review and beautiful photography. It's nice to see a licensed Brickheads set that doesn't rely on printed parts to identify the subject matter; these are instantly recognizable. The decapitated roadrunner is messed up though, look how you massacred our bird! -
Forgotten theme + new parts and construction techniques = awesome. Most excellent updating of this old subtheme.

The shift from creativity to consumer fan base?
koalayummies replied to mikaelsol's topic in General LEGO Discussion
So no retail sets: spawns creativity. Cancel every theme! MOC victory.
