Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
koalayummies replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Yeah its the same discussion every time a car is included as well (FB, PC, DD, CG). Some would rather take the 100 or so pieces from the vehicle and have them used towards structure detail, but I think the vehicles really compliment each of these buildings and settings and that the buildings aren't lacking in detail from lack of pieces. Even if they are all ye olde separate-water-fountain-era-vehicles getting twelve miles to the tetraethyllead gallon and thus don't have catalytic converters, exhaust gas recirculation or evaporative emissions controls. Well I haven't even tried to be honest. I've heard from you and others the mall situation is still a bit restricted. That's why I keep seeking how other builder's visits went; to live vicariously. -
PRESS RELEASE: 10276 – LEGO® Colosseum
koalayummies replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in Special LEGO Themes
There are people that designed this, human beings. Lego builders. Why not build a better one? Love the Colosseum, build it. Many of us know that Light Stone Grey has only ever been molded in 39 different elements and hasn't been produced since 2010. So kind of restricted to White or Medium Stone Grey since "tan" (Brick Yellow/Sand Yellow) is, so I'm told a great many times, not correct. -
Help with identifying parts/sets!
koalayummies replied to WhiteFang's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Yep was just about to post that, nice work. The red spaceship looks like a modified part from the top of 6862 Secret Space Voyager, its got the slope brick, wing, and most telling is the old style magnet holder on the back (but you're missing the magnet). Some of these other individual pieces are in too many sets to narrow down specifically but you can get an idea what they might be from looking at what other pieces you have with them: The white airplane turbine piece on the middle left appears in 25 sets. The 1x14 garage door groove brick in red appears in 9 sets. The trans blue 3-sided outward-bowing obviously space window is in 6 sets. I can return later and help more if no one else does. -

Lego store visit with consolation cinnabon when I couldn't get any Lego was the one thing I had to look forward to in this life. Those days aren't ever coming back are they -
Beautifully built and photographed. Excellent work!

Thank you Marinho! I actually googled and wikipedia'd a whole bunch of towns and villages along the western coast of Italy on the Tyrrhenian/Ligurian Seas and that aesthetic and style is exactly what I was going for. Glad its been captured to generate that feeling! That area is beautiful, that must have been an amazing trip. Thanks Redhead1982! I really love that style of roof so its great to get some new pieces in Lego to build it multiple ways. That style is not something I'd ever see where I grew up so its particularly mesmerizing to me.

Anyone remember that picture of that dress from 2015 and the entire world arguing over its color? Its literally called "The Dress" in Wikipedia because of what it did to humanity. It was awful. Regardless one could make this set pink or magenta and it would still look like the Colosseum. Yep, just as I suspected. Still looks pretty Colosseum-y to me. Though with a hefty splash of Unikitty. Anyway I think this set looks fantastic. It absolutely captures the essence and feel of the structure; it looks like the Colosseum without question. And even better is that no slave labor was used to make this one and hopefully nothing will be killed for entertainment within those walls. Joking aside the Lego construction of this set is really great and I think the designer(s) did a wonderful job. I cannot afford it nor would I know what to do with all those pieces so I'm most likely not going to get it, but I still think its an incredibly well designed set and a very accurate Lego recreation. Now is there anyone willing to bust out their $80 X-Rite colorchecker chart, profile calibrated DSLR and confirm for us on their 99% Adobe RGB capable monitor whether this thing is pink or magenta? PS the dress was white and gold. EDIT: ( that's tongue in cheek, as if I wouldn't read the very thing that I linked) -

Yeah, maybe, if Megbricks' internet goes out. Just playing Meg, you know we appriciate you... making us all jelly... All the time. -
Thanks! It looks like it'll be coming out in Dark Stone Grey as well soon too. - Completely forgot to show the back of the building, not a whole lot going on but I always like seeing the whole thing:

MOC: Elvendale and the Dragon Sanctuary (pic heavy)
koalayummies replied to BenA's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
This is one of the most amazing elves builds ever and one of the most beautiful scenes constructed out of Lego. Seamless and continuous wonder from end to end. The level of detail in every nook and cranny is mind boggling. What a gorgeous and absolutely incredible MOC! -
A very different type of build from you and its totally awesome!

Searching through torso and leg parts is the most tedious and why I rarely get any figures, so bravo on taking the time to do that. -

Well now you make me feel bad cause I tossed it! In the future though if you'd like I can save up any broken pieces and donate them to the Toastie collection. I just don't think they'd hold up after repair to my constant assembly and disassembly as things don't stay together for very long around here.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
koalayummies replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Agreed, with all the designer talent at Lego I very much enjoy seeing what everyone can bring to the modular buildings. I'm not a huge fan of Art Deco/Streamline but what Mike Psiaki did with the diner; capturing that style so wonderfully and the techniques he employed were all so fantastic, it was exciting to see what talent that normally specializes elsewhere can do with this theme. Same with Lars Joe and the Corner Garage, the fully angled facade. Astrid's Town Hall. And look at all the MOCs! To restrict any theme to being primarily designed by just one person would be wasting of so much potential and possibility. -

Well you did it folks. You got another one completely addicted. Well done. So now you're gonna need to eat cheap, no new clothes, do all repairs yourself, hope you stumble across an undiscovered mineral deposit etc. -
Fellow Californian! What have the store visits been like recently? I still havent gone into a Lego store all year but remember we were having a discussion about this a few months ago, have you gone inside or is it curbside? Cinnabon.

This is as clean a frame and display as your immaculate and minimalist apartment/house/office or wherever this photo was taken. Very nice work!

Fantastic and very creative construction throughout. The puppet show, the bicycle trailer for the baby, the chairs with the horn piece legs, street lamps using the whips, the batons for beverage taps, very clever designs and parts usage all over. I like how you can see the chandelier through the windows and the lattice pieces used for the stairs of the stage entrance. Wonderful MOC!

How long has it been assembled? Over time sets that are left assembled tend to get a little stiffer in their connections so if you're planning on keeping this together I think it will improve. Looking at the videos it really doesn't look like there's much of an issue. The minifigure leg anti-studs do seem to have really good clutch power which is why its lifting up the dock deck but everything else seems about normal (if you pull the minifigure forward at an angle to remove as opposed to pulling straight up it should prevent the dock from lifting). Its a little hard to determine the force being applied in all the examples though. Lego from the 90s that you're comparing this to did have really strong clutch power but its been discussed around here how they've always sought a balance between clutch power and removal. Since this is still a building toy for kids they have to make them somewhat easy to separate. My pieces from the 90s are way too stiff compared to the pieces of today IMO, especially if left assembled all this time some of them are incredibly difficult to remove and make all kinds of creaking noises when manipulated.

Thank you SATSOK! Aw thanks Aurore! Relieved I hit a nice balance of detail inside and out. Thank you Brixtof! Yeah I can't wait until we get the brackets in more colors, any SNOT piece in a new color is just pure excitement and I'll likely change them out for the shutters. Thanks! Thank you! Heh, thanks! Hooray, yeah they really like gaming, mushrooms (on their pizzas) and friendly dinosaurs among other things. That is piece is Plate 1X1X2/3, Outside Bow Design 49307, the Nougat was only released this year and I jumped.
