LEGO Star Wars 2019 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
jdubbs replied to Stash2Sixx's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I don't disagree that there are still a number of Rogue One/Solo sets worthy of LEGO's attention. But there are also a substantial number of prequel-era sets we could stand to see. Previously-unreleased or modern builds of the Zam/Obi/Anakin speeders, a Mustafar Duel, Kamino, Jango's Slave 1, Lars Homestead, Watto's Junkshop, more podracers, Jedi Council, Senate Duel, anything Naboo/Theed/Gungan City, the list goes on and on. I could create a similar (perhaps smaller) list of sets for the original trilogy, and even the sequel trilogy. I think we all agree that we'd all like to see more of the stuff that's never made it into LEGO form, rather than reissues of Luke's Landspeeder, Jedi Starfighters, or whatever the hell was the basis for the 20th Anniversary sets (Slave 1 excepted). But... we've also been warned time and time again not to turn this into a wishlisting thread. "I want" and "I wish" posts don't really belong here. So, it's maybe (past) time to move on... -

The October sets are all listed here: https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/167836-lego-star-wars-2019-news-everyone-please-read-first-post/ There are no Mandalorian or Fallen Order sets among them. January is likely the earliest we would see them, barring some kind of unknown retailer exclusive. -

Pretty clearly not a $99 build. -

In the US at least, most all of the non-D2C/UCS, non-20th Anniversary sets are on sale 20% off (including January and April waves). This is definitely better than we've gotten in past years, especially when you factor in the double VIP points and the Hoth micro build freebie. -

Typically the oldest sets go on sale. Don't expect any of the April wave to be marked down, or even much of the January wave. -

While I agree that wish-listing tends to circulate so much that it eventually becomes rumors which eventually become treated as confirmed fact, in this case it's not entirely "unfounded speculation". The piececount and (rough) price range are known for the next UCS set, which narrows down the list of possibilities considerably. -
Risk of buying retired sets with large # of brown parts
jdubbs replied to Eaglefan344's topic in LEGO Star Wars
My understanding is that the issue was with dark red parts, not brown parts, due to the concentration of red pigment needed to achieve the color. I've had plenty of those break, but never any brown parts break. -

A ton? Really? I have most every Star Wars set made in the last 10-15 years and I am hard-pressed to find any in my collection. The few that I can find came in a promotional polybag or a UCS set... definitely the exception to the rule. -

These look amazing. My favorite TIE MOC/MODs I've seen. Do you have plans to do a TIE Heavy? First Order TIE? etc.?

Maybe, but it seems pretty clear that LEGO is playing it very conservatively with Star Wars sets this year. You don't have to look much further than the January and April waves to see that.. dusted-off reissues of old builds and figs, zero effort expended to speak of (Slave 1 being the obvious exception). I just don't see LEGO taking chances on unproven media when they're barely taking chances with the stuff that actually sells. And the few game-related sets we got were mere battlepacks, one of which followed the game by over a year? -

Bear in mind, ForceFriday covers most of the major SW licensees, not just LEGO, and not all licensees will have product supporting all three properties. For the past few years, Hasbro and others have been quick to embrace new shows/secondary media, whereas LEGO has not. Probably because they got burned by Rebels sets which sold really poorly. Take Resistance, for example... LEGO won't end up shipping any sets for the show until after its initial season has ended, whereas Hasbro announced their Resistance toys last fall. So, I would be surprised if LEGO launched product For The Mandalorian or Fallen Order this year (Fallen Order seems especially unlikely, given how flakey EA is releasing SW games and how few game-related LEGO sets there have been). There are plenty of other things that those two October sets could be.... sets from any of the existing movies, Clone Wars, another Resistance set or two, or something completely left field (we've gotten a lot of that this year). Another brick-built statue, or a brick-built lightsaber, or a Star Wars chess set for instance (they did one with pirates and another with knights in years past). And before anyone interprets the above as wish-listing... the point here is: don't jump to the conclusion that those two sets are any particular thing. They could be almost anything. -

If you want people to share information when they have it, you need to be willing to accept that not everyone is going to spill all the details, all the time. People with inside info have reasons —their own reasons — to keep certain details close to the vest until such time as they're ready to go public. Whining about not getting all the info you want right now just makes you sound like a petulant child and has the added benefit of discouraging leakers from sharing more info. Both of you need to grow up. -

Has happened before. And I doubt they would have different box art. -
Awesome improvement over the LEGO build. Going to steal this!

It is not. The UCS Falcon, Slave I and Imperial Shuttle are (theoretically) minifig-scale. The TIE, X-Wing, Y-Wing, Snowspeeder, etc. are larger than minifig-scale, by varying degrees... generally ranging from ~125% to ~200%. Capital ships are much smaller than minifig scale, of course.

The Tantive IV that included minifigs (10198) was not a UCS set. The Rebel Blockade Runner UCS (10019) set did not any contain minifigs. -

This is totally splitting hairs, but the above isn't entirely accurate, at least not strictly speaking. There was a running change to 10188 (original UCS Death Star playset) when LEGO updated the minifigs to newer face prints with pupil eyes. So, theoretically possible that they could change a head and helmet print... albeit really unlikely. -

In the US, the $100+ sets rarely if ever see discounts in the first 3-6 months of release. I suspect LEGO stipulates this in retailer contracts, as it seems to be the case across most lines. -

I think most collectors recognize that updates/re-releases of existing sets are going to happen, and in some cases welcome them. The issue that most of us have is when the same sets get re-issued over and over, whereas other ships/locations have only seen one release (or none). Those who didn't pick up the AT-AP or Droid Gunship a few years ago are of course excited at a second chance, but there are ships that haven't been touched in 10-15 years, and are either so dated that they're not worth owning, or so expensive that they're out of most buyers's reach. I'd personally rather see those get new builds first. -

U-Wing: very unlikely. UCS Resistance X-Wing: fairly likely. System X-Wing: only if it’s in episode 9 (but it would be different, since Poe’s was destroyed in TLJ).
