  1. Your skill and artistry have earned you the commissions & the accolades you're receiving, each and every one of which is very well deserved for you are truly the master of what you do.
  2. Who needs a baseball bat when you have hamsters. It's a well known fact that there's nothing more dangerous than an angry hamster!
  3. Me too! Original boxes also. I'll try to buy a box if a used set I've bought doesn't have one. Oh, and stickers. I always try to get an extra set just in case those applied start peeling etc,. When I first read this thread I was sure I had no 'quirks' associated with my building but the more I read the more I realise I'm as 'mixed up' as everyone else here & happy to be so
  4. Yes, I'll admit to being a little over enthusiastic with the cleaning routine. Firstly parts are all soaked overnight in Milton sterilising solution then, especially if very dusty, they get soaked for 24hrs in a detergent solution to loosen the dust etc. The parts are then put in a net bag and put through the dishwasher on the Extra Care low heat setting. My Wife then inspects and if necessary cleans each part using a detergent solution, a toothbrush & a pipe cleaner. Parts are then rinsed in clean water, dried and are ready to be used. I wouldn't call this a mania though, more self preservation. Remember, I build by mouth. You never know where parts have been or worse, where the hands of the previous owner had been prior to/during the last time they handled the parts! In case you're wondering, all parts are cleaned exactly the same way before I sell a set I've previously built

    Old windmill

    Terrific build!
  6. There's enough here to keep a whole team of psychologists going for months
  7. I know that if circumstances were different I'd be obsessive about some part or other of my building but the truth with the way things are it's hard enough for me to build without religiously aligning splits on pins etc. I do however try to put the bushes on exactly as shown in any instructions I'm following but there are times when I forget to. The only other thing I try to do is to make sure both ends of any protruding axles are the same length but again, I don't always.
  8. Amazing work so far, it looks awesome. The work of a builder with an attention to detail bordering on the fanatical
  9. Looks really good. Can't wait to see the B model.
  10. Congratulations on this stunning build!
  11. My situation means I'm lucky to have a lot more time to look for bargains than most members. That said, with this latest haul I just got very, very lucky, bargains like this don't come around often. After buying my Lego Shed & having the electrics done I've not much money left to get it insulated and not really wanting to sell any more of my Lego I came across this lot just in time. With the colder weather fast approaching the need to stay warm has focused the mind more than ever towards hunting out bargains.
  12. Just received my latest bargain buy. £62 including delivery bought me: 42009 - Mobile Crane 9397 - Logging Truck 9390 - Mini Uni Mog 9391 - Mini Monile Crane 9394 - Jet Plane 9395 - Freds Garage Tow Truck 7398 - Train Set This little lot will pay for my Lego Shed to be insulated
  13. Well written & informative reviews as always. Thank you Jim.
  14. I agree with the other members, Jugens Ultimate with Christophe Moitties extended boom is a challenging but rewarding build.
  15. Small really is beautiful.
  16. Now that's what I call a working space, I love your storage system. Oh to be that organised!
  17. As my shed has one 16' wall that's almost all glass and 2 large windows on the end where I build there's loads of natural light to work by. I'll only need the lights for relatively short periods so hopefully (there's that word again! ) UV damage shouldn't be a problem. As for the flickering effect, I'm using tubes with the electronic ballast. That's for the info.
  18. Sparky's installed T4 (or T5, I can't remember which!) tubes with high-frequency electronic ballasts that are supposed to virtually eliminate flicker so hopefully it shouldn't be a problem. Fingers crossed
  19. I've heard various reasons for the yellowing of white bricks but I've not heard anything about fluorescent lighting causing it before. It's too late now I know but out of interest, anyone have any more info about this? Thanks for the heads up.
  20. Taking Jims very good advice to get the conversation back to our working spaces, a small update on my shed. At long last sparky's been and worked his magic so my shed now has power. The 5 double sockets are in and the lights are up. I've gone for fluorescent tubes as they should be cheap to run, long lasting and they do provide great light. I've a 5' one to illuminate the end of the shed that'll be used for storage and 4' above my build table. Next job. Insulation. As I really feel the cold I've decided on 50mm Celotex to help keep the shed warm. The downside to choosing this is it's cost, it's far more expensive than I thought it was going to be. After a few minutes online I came across a local company that sells Celotex 'seconds'. These are sheets of Celotex that might have a crease in the backing foil, a small chip off a corner/edge, a surface dent etc,. All the sheets are perfectly useable they just haven't passed Celotex's strict quality controls. 1200mm x 2400mm x 50mm sheets cost around half the price as those from anywhere else meaning big savings. Not much will get done next week as we have our eldest Son's wedding but after that it'll be full speed ahead to get the shed finished before the colder weather arrives. Pictures will follow when there's tangible progress.
  21. I'm very lucky. I have an amazing Wife who besides being incredibly patient (believe me, she needs to be!), happily accepts me for the man I can't help being
  22. I've only just got my shed & now it looks like I'm going to have to get a kitchen added
  23. Staggeringly beautiful.
