I *LOVED* This. The size is great. I've always pictured Hogwarts to be HUGE when I read the books. That stained glass is fantastic - as is the fountain.... though I must know... does it open?

Kaliphlin Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
Si-MOCs replied to Si-MOCs's topic in Guilds of Historica
So it appears the Guild Leaders are fallible, and made a mistake. The original intent was to pick the TOP tower of each guild - two guilds had ties - instead of doing a tie-breaker we decided to simply make them cowinners - thus the 'top 6'. BUT! in terms of raw score - there was a tower that was higher than one of the other tower(s) from the other guild(s) ... so it wasn't truly top 6... it was 6/7. The SECRET 7th uber awesome tower was of course: Ra'ad Twur from Tower Lord Wahil Musca! You will also be given a prize (once prizes are sorted out) So please extend a hand for Wahil as well! Criteria - I don't know if it'll be the same, but we looked at three main things: 1) appropriateness of build - eg how 'Kaliphlin' was it? 2) Quality of build 3) Presentation/Photography with that in mind I choose ones that I thought were strong in those categories - though I tended to vote a bit more with my heart than cold statistician. So really in the end to do well: Build something appropriate. Build it well. From some of the Top Seven you can see it's not always size that matters. And if you look at the two biggest ones - they were actually quite detailed as well. Also take GOOD pictures of it. You don't need to add in a big fancy digital background, but it should be a clear picture with a neutral background. If anyone has problems - I/others I'm sure will be willing to help you clean it up. (heck even Derfel had to get ISC to do his background ) For the first round it was the Guild Leaders that choose 5 to represent their guild. We discussed the logistics of voting and at the time we decided against it - it was a large fear that over the holidays many would be away ... BUT it's really up to you guys. I would rather vote (so I'm not to blame!) on the next round, we can start up a thread and have like a 3 day vote window for your top 5. Thoughts? Honestly I have always imagined the latter. but as stated above- I've seen the other way, so I'm sure we will accept either. And remember guys, even with talk of prizes and guild rankings etc etc - the real purpose of this is to push all the builders to build better and greater. So build what YOU want. as long as it fills any of those criteria you should be safe. Even if it doesn't, it can be counted as a free build! Welcome Justin! Can't wait to have you aboard. First thing first: make up a character, take a picture of them and post up here! Welcome and Enjoy! -
Clip: Is it just me or does anyone else think there's an AFOL on the writing staff? that's two LEGO jokes this year - and packed with quite a few AFOLesque imagery... Credit to Ricecracker again for the heads up! PS: I think Kaliphlin needs a "Dust Palace"

Mitgardia Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
Si-MOCs replied to Sirens-of-Titan's topic in Guilds of Historica
Partial credit! The official competions will run one year (and what a year). *but* I would think the fourm will stay forever (or merged back to historical, I don't know about you guys - but I plan on building Kaliphlin for years after... There are so many great ideas and things to build that I can't possibly get to do in a year... Plus if there could always be a Historica v; empire strikes back few years down the line -
hahaha I was also waiting for someone to do it. Much appreciated it - now *I* don't have to do it.

I love how you have two totally different types of rock and resisted the urge to simply reuse the same rock structure. Great steampunkage.

Penguinius' Mitgardian Embassy Party! )
Si-MOCs replied to The Penguin's topic in Guilds of Historica
SCANDAL! Such a wondrous party in my own back yard, and yet Dextrus was not invited? Blah! Well I don't like the cold anyways :P -- I enjoyed the strip greatly - great use of fig - and definitely unique take -
I'd get my armour from there. Looks like a fine establishment!

Ambitious! I like it!

Very cool! I can't believe you basically built ALL these sets. I wish you joined EB earlier and started posting these videos back then - I think EB would have been some good moral support and give you a good shot in the arm! I was lucky to help out once at one of our two store openings - we had a lot more people than you - but I do recall a bit of 'ribbon stress' when there were some last minute sets that *had* to be built. I'm curious - how did you manage to transport all the models? Did you rent a van? or Truck? And good to hear they're extending some rewards to herclian efforts like yours

interesting article on wired.com about lego math
Si-MOCs replied to legomonk's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That's actually quite interesting ... The crux of the argument is that as sets (or systems) increase in size, so do the unique types of pieces. And they show the math in terms of LEGO sets, and it is similar to other systems out there - biological and man made. Though I think the critical flaw of the study (and I feel bad for the analysts that did this) is that composition of the sets are directly dictated by the packaging/bagging limitations of LEGO sets. Each bag can only have so many unique elements. So bigger the sets - more bags, more bags = more unique parts. -
What was he buying? I wonder if it was for himself or someone else? Please be Friends ;) HAHAHA

Found this article and thought it was interesting ... NHL enforcer (the guy that fights) plays with LEGO! http://www.usahockeymagazine.com/article/2012-01/leave-his-legos-alone I like how he put in the brightly colour mats ... I bet he's totally a build on the floor guy

Werewolves Embassy in Kalaphlin region
Si-MOCs replied to Hersbrucker's topic in Guilds of Historica
Fantastic! Great to see the trade between our great peoples. My only thought is maybe put a railing on the docks? Can warewolves swim? -
Wonderful creation as always. There is so much to love about this. as always it's all the little details. But you always find such an amazing way to intertwining it all together. Bravo
-
Oh? are you starting a theme of hover vehicles? That'd be pretty awesome. Much like your truck ;) (though I would have used the beaver cap... but that's just me.)

Lovely. It's got a great little cottage feel to it. And it looks nice and toasty in there - thought it smell a bit like fish The thick white bricks also makes it feel like there was a really heavy snowfall before it started thawing out.

Nocturnus Guild: Homepage, Sign-up and Discussion
Si-MOCs replied to I Scream Clone's topic in Guilds of Historica
Last I checked Bionicle is part of LEGO and it is a LEGO site... I say go for it! Though part of the fun is to challenge yourself to build outside your comfort zone - you might surprise yourself ... -- I actually think Nocturnus has some great potential - Kaliphlin and Nocturnus to me are the most 'open ended' of the 4 guilds. There is much less of a preconception on what they would be outside of 'dark' ... If I wasn't asked to be a Guild Leader... I could have very well ended up here... -
There's one window! Windows also allows heat to escape ;) it's a such a clean moc - looks fantastic and has a great little 'huddled for warmth' feel to it :)
