  1. RE: scoring for Challenge 2 Basically the vast majority of points are awarded based on the average build of the guild. We take all the scores combined for every build and we divided by the entries. From there we multiply it to normalize it among all the guild. aka as if every guild has the SAME number of members. Then we add a participation points for each entry per guild - thus rewarding everyone from building. That way no smart megablocks guild will have only one entry by their best builder. Add those together and viola - a relatively fair system that rewards the guild that builds the best and that participates the most. If you look at the scores - they're actually REALLY close. Yes we had the best average, but Avolonia and Mitgardia weren't far behind. So. What to do next time? Build as best you can - keep in mind we're looking for quality, not size. so if you don't have the brick - don't build too big! A small well built MOC is better than a massive flat walled castle for instance. As I hinted at - the builds are getting way better - I suspect the next round the judges may be slightly more critical - so simple stuff like - clean back grounds, sharp picture, etc will be easy points. I think our biggest asset is our creativity - for the most part we have the most interesting builds and I think it helps to stand out... so keep up the neato builds! As for individual feedback - I obviously didn't judge Kaliphlin's entries - but I would be more than happy to look at it as if I were a judge... just shoot me a PM and I'l lget around to it eventually ;) Also the freebuild should help us catch up. But I think we're doing really well. and the race is actually really close... And don't forget the first guild to catch the snitch gets 1500 points!
  2. Brother's and Sisters of Kaliphlin. The good High King Darconius has graced us with his presence and given us kind words and gold for our efforts. While we have slipped into third place among our three brethern, we must hold our heads up high. True, we did not have the highest score. But a well placed informant in the ministry of challenge totalling has told me that Kaliphlin on average had the BEST scores in all the realms! THAT I believe deserves a applause for the brave constructioners. As a whole, all of Historica has built some incredible stuff - the quality is incredible - it is nice to see everyone building's skills progress. Tower Master Erudhalion - I must congratulate you again on a deserved victory. But, my friend, rest not on your laurels, the next challenge may be your hardest yet, and there are a few among us whom I think may usurp you in the next round. Tread carefully brother. For the remainder of the guild - You may ask if we built better than ALL the other guilds - why did we not score more? The answer is the number of builds - other guilds scored well, and built more. Combined that outweighs us, one of the smaller guilds. But fear not. I have faith. Kaliphlin Faith. For we have the potential for such great things. With that - I am more than willing to offer suggestions and criticisms as best I can on how you did/where you may improve. Feel free to PM me at any time. Good work Kaliphlin. We may not have won this round, but you have, again, made me proud. -- Tashbaan You can find the details for this humble little challenge here: Mini Challenge Damaximus great little micro. I'm really liking this whole micro castling Tower Lord Wahil Astute Mathematician ... yes the scores will be added. I have updated the main page. And you don't have to wait long - if you haven't guessed already. I hear heralds are coming as we speak with proclamations!
  3. Dugal What a great idea for WIKIpage! That definitely has some potential! You're right at 3 months already we almost have an impossible amount of information to categorize. So I'm keen to try this out - though can you can you easily transport information from wiki to another? eg right now we have the Kaliphlin wiki, and if this idea takes off and works well, I'd like to apply it across the board - I'd hate to redo all that work... so maybe we should try with a GoH wiki? Also with regards to the cross referencing question - I think they mean if I type: "Dextrus Flagg was raised on the mean streets of Petraea" does it auto link to Dextrus and Petraea? or would we have to link it all together? Mikel wow what a great collection of information. You're our very own little Charles Darwin! Categorizing species of Siccus! Lizardmen makes me laugh Rasputin! ART THOU HITTING ON MYNE SISTER?!
  4. Tear down? Doesn't everyone just buy new bricks?
  5. You need either a Heroica guy or Minfig trophy in that pod Besides that great little build.
  6. Awesome. I've been toying with some of the Dinos - but I hadn't thought of this ... Well done! The details are lovely - total steampunk. Let's see Legolas try to take one of these down My own suggestion - and it's not an easy one - but the head of the Triceratops seems to be missing something - can you give it goggles or something? something steampunky - probably impossible, but would freak'n awesome.
  7. I didn't have this set either - but this is fantastic. The micro shark and oh golly the whole thing is well done
  8. Citizens of Historica, the heralds speak of a gathering that is being held in the township of Chicago. Several of us have declared our intentions to attend festival of bricks. So the question is - who else is going? For those that are going - would you be interesting in getting a table or two and showing some creations? Perhaps at least one challenge entry per guild per challenge? A special Brickworld challenge perhaps? Any other ideas? -- Cool BW people: Si-Mocs Jakon (maybe) Captain BeerBeard (Day visitor) Hyler Talliwell (can bring something small) darkdragon (large) ZCerberus (large) NiceMarmot (small mocs) rogueang (large) Dan Church ( Space wise- Right now I have Rogueang- 64 x 64 creation (Avalonia) Darkdragon- 32 x 32 creation (Mitgardian) Hyler Talliwell- 64 x 64 creation (Kaliphlin) ZCerberus- 32 x 32 Riverrun Watch tower (Avalonia) ZCerberus- 80 x 80 Great Gatehouse of Albion (Avalonia)
  9. Contest Deadline We announced on the 22nd... let's make it simple and give an additional weekend - so Sunday Feb 11th. -- Belkar Docken Welcome new stranger. We are friends here. Please come sit down. Quick! This man need some Mead. Belkar, please relax and tell us your story. Saladus I love the size and the crumbliness of it of Mägi Linnus? The path is particularly nicely built. Though I think you can maybe put a bit more variation into the dark bley wall. an occasional light bley brick - or old dark grey. So... are you going to build some interior scenes from inside Mägi Linnus? Mikel - let's stick with one entry per person. Don't forget Challenge 3 is right around the corner. As for LDD - Master Cartographer Gex was thinking the same thing I was - for the official challenges and freebuilds - I say we should stick to brick built - as you have proper time to plan accordingly - and part of the challenge is to work with what you actually have (or can acquire) - Innovation within your means is a great challenge and can lead to some awesome stuff. Just look at all those TFOLs out there that have small collections building great stuff. I find LDD gives a bit of unfair advantage as it gives you unlimited bricks essentially. Though for Myth challenge - since there's a short timeline - let's let LDD usage this once - if you're absolutely stuck... For the record I don't think we have officially said one way or the other... I know Mitgardia has banned it - and I think it was an unwritten rule/assumption that it would be all brick built. Kcaj this is a Guild friendly challenge - it's for fun so I won't be counting studs... so as long as it's close I Think you'll be fine - but it's really up to the judges to decide: The Kaliphlin Guild Rasputin &Tower Lord Wahil Yes that's what we did... though just to point out the Free builds have not been scored - we are scoring them now - and will do it every 2 challenges or so. Basically everyone can get a max 50 points for the guild - so yes - those free builds can be big points! So yes Wahil your master piece will be counted and should do well Though some might ask why we are capping things - that's to make sure that people create their best work. It's better to build a few great things, than a ton of mediocre things. And the scoring system is designed to try to encourage that. Lord Damaximus - Alas, the bow is not my strong suit... instead I shall send my Slave-Sister Kaythrin instead. Rasputin & Lord Damaximus Yes ancient societies have some sophisticated technologies. While I wouldn't mind seeing more incorporated in mocs, let's keep in mind the reason we to are trying to shy away a bit from all this technology is to prevent a technological arms race between the guilds (though a Cold War between guilds would be interesting...) Tower Lord Wahil I had the same problem - I used to read every thread - work and other business has essentially prevented me form continuing... though some day I will go through it all and bump month old threads Mikel & Kcaj Great guide! I added a link to it form the first page. Dugal MacLean Very interesting backstory! I can't wait to see and hear about these "People of the Flame" Lord Damaximus Water Element in Kaliphlin... I'm sure the story will make sense eventually.... Rasputin do not let the name fool you! Kathryin is as much a slave as I am. We both escaped together from the same camp... I call her my Slave-Sister, as we watched over each other like brother's and sister during our ordeal... but that is a Legend to be told at a different time. (What Dugal said... but before i turned the page)
  10. Great building. It's a very nice clean build. Nothing super flashy, but lots of subtle texture and details.
  11. Fun! Though maybe more description ? it's a bit stylized - so it's a bit hard to tell - is it a micro of a grand temple/castle of some sort? or is it a minifig scale hiding place of a gem?
  12. Welcome to EB! Are you in the Toronto Region? The closest LEGO fest to you is probably http://www.brickfete.com in Toronto in mid July. It's a small but fun fest. If you want something bigger/more international I would also suggest BrickWorld.
  13. Nice to have you back. Some nice greebling work - and good colour blocking. Only complaint is the side of the ship - you might want to add a bit of window on the side of the cockpit - they have no peripheral vision
  14. Agreed. It really flushes out the mocs well. Great little ships. Now get some of those SW Planets so you have something to attack
  15. Try: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=62242 The problem was that the scoreboard (before right now) was in a picture... hence UNSEARCHABLE That has been fixed. Good point. Above thread sort of discusses it. I will add some mechanics text tonight both here and in that thread (or unless someone beats me to it). Here is a great place to start :) We're always open to ideas.
  16. Damn straight. *pounce* I saw this on flickr earlier - great build. The two balloons are very well designed - and I liked how you used the ropes. But it's the underside of the ship that makes me go SO much detail in such a crammed and looks like delicate local Great job!
  17. Again congrats on Regulatorship! Now to plot things to make you do Yeah I too am eagerly awaiting DC to post
  18. Fantastic. I too have been waiting for someone to do a Petra type ruins... though I'm surprised people didn't make it for the capital And well done indeed. I loved the backstory to go with it... it makes me want to learn MORE. I wana know who build the tunnels, how do they work? how do you find them!?!?
  19. NNNEEEEERRRDDSSSS! 40K all the way! Some party pooper ( Bonaparte ) truncated my title so that it fits and 'conforms' into the standard user column instead of exploding out... like before. Oh why didn't I take a picture?! I knew it wouldn't last
  20. Kaliphlin Story Time: Myths, Legends and Lore mini Challenge. Size restrictions: 32x32 or 5x 16x16 comic strip - (though I'm not going to measure). Go forth and build a story, or a snapshot of your story*. It maybe be about some long lost myth of the creation of Petrea. Or a Legend of your SigFig's rise to power. Or about the Lore of Kaliphlin guild. It can be from eons ago, or just last week's Tavern crawl. *must actually write a 50 words or more story. Judges: Kaliphlin guild - via poll (I'll create a separate thread later) Open: to anyone, including foreign guilds. Though good luck convincing the judges Prizes: Undisclosed number of battlepacks from Dex's personal stash: Deadline - March 11th STOE (Some Time On Earth) -- There slight modification to expand the mini-contest- so it's a bit easier for everyone to give it a go. If you're still having problems thinking of ideas, I, or someone else can write a story for you -- SkaForHire Thanks for the kind words, but I implore you to bring forth your ideas (and anyone else for that matter). There is no 'first in' mentality. Sure you weren't here from the start, but that doesn't mean your opinion isn't as valid as the next person. We are constantly looking to improve and run everything smoother. Feel free to at any time PM me or any of the GL or post ideas here or the general topic. We got some of the feedback we got last round - and we've tried to implement some of those changes. Haha I write/come up with lots of story ideas on my way to work too. You should see the pile of my ideas that we didn't use
  21. LOOK OUT BEHIND YOU! hehe cute.
  22. Happy Birthday Fangy! Don't have too many today
  23. Guild Myth challenge it is! ! Let's give two weeks (I'm sure Rasputin will make due ) and leave it at 32x32 and 5x 16x16 for panels. We don't want to make these builds too big In case you haven't noticed, we have made each challenge more and more difficult - so you will have ample time to do this and the challenge. Gabe you perfectionist you :P It is a lot more cohesive. Though I still maintain your original was pretty good too But yeah it's slightly more awesome than it was before.
  24. Mikel That is so simple yet so amazing. As someone recently into the whole micro build - that is very impressive. With no use of special bricks you have made a great miniature build. I am greatly looking forward to more of your work. I doth think you may read too much into the heralder's words (or maybe not enough? or maybe just right?). But while we have a slight gap as we wait for the King to make his round and various other doings to transpire - I once asked Kaliphlin guild what you wanted to do - that wasn't part of the official builds and such. Both Avalonia and Mitgardia have mini contests - what say you? Something to get the juices going. It can be either something extremely short - few days, or something longer ... But what little in-guild game/contest/activity shall we do? Up for grabs, these puppies:
  25. NNNNEEEEEERRRRRRDDDDDDSSSSS! 40K all the way! I should not make fun of other Guild Leader's usage of Warhammer (Fantasy) for MOC inspirations. Then point out that 40K is better than fantasy. From I Scream Titles Clones.
