I'm 100% sure this wasn't a decision made by TLG alone. They sat down with McLaren, checked their options and chose to do a 2022 style car with the 2021 livery. I don't think we will ever know the exact reasons behind the decision, maybe TLG wanted to use their new panels to make it a more desirable product and they are matching the new design, maybe McLaren wanted to promote the newer version, or maybe something completely different. With the development and production time of a Technic set at this scale I think it would be almost impossible to have a set released with the actual year's design and livery.

I think what we would like to see is something between the ~1600 pcs 160€ Porsche 911 RSR and the ~2600 pcs 200€ Land Rover Defender, both from a piece count, price and functionality point of view. I don't think it's unfair to expect a licensed set around ~1600-1800 pcs that would have more interesting features than the very basic steering/suspension/fake engine setup. I don't want to see an 8 speed gearbox, but it'd be nice to see functions and not only new panels/parts added. Maybe TLG got too cautious because of the fiasco with the overcomplicated Defender gearbox?

Control+ General Discussion

That's not how Android permissions should work. Once you clear the app's data and reinstall it, you need to grant access again as the previous settings are also deleted. If you correctly delete the app's cache and local data, that should trigger the permissions popup on next launch (when you open the set's profile in the app) even without reinstalling it. -

I'm almost sure it's about the permissions. When you delete data / uninstall / reinstall, do you get the warning to enable access to BT / location services? -

In your phone's settings go to the App list, find the Powered Up app, check Storage options, and clear all data for the app. Then try to uninstall it, reboot your phone, reinstall the app. You should get again the permission popup for location services, make sure to allow everything. -
I don't think the Medium motor will be replaced in the set. The updated BI and Bricks & Pieces both show the current motor with the 6290182 ID. PU motors (and even Control+ sets) have a tendency to vanish from lego.com for days or even weeks. Not sure if it is related to the production shortage, but apparently TLG prefers to simply pull them instead of showing everything as out of stock. 42124 disappeared for weeks last year, also the dump PU battery box, both came back after a while. The status and visibility might also change from region to region. 45303 is currently shown as retired btw in the US shop (and some other regions), but even this does not mean anything nowadays. The Zetros was in retired status for weeks in December/January in the central European countries, now it's available again. I don't say the Simple Medium Linear Motor won't change for sure and it will stay, but at this point it's virtually impossible to get a 100% accurate information from anyone about it. Customer Service only says what they see in the system, they don't have more information either.

If we consider the initial leaks of the Zetros and the CAT (which seems to come from a similar source), even the main parts / concept / piece count might change so I wouldn't start long speculations based on all these :) -
Even if there's a real financial cost for the license (which might not be the case every time), it won't be necessarily reflected in the price of a specific set. If it would then sets like the 30433 Volvo polybag wouldn't even exist, and you couldn't buy it for the same price as the unlicensed 30465 Helicopter polybag from last year.

The Hummer EV for example has 4 wheel steering including crab mode, adjustable suspension height, and as @Frequenzberater mentioned there are many other functional details that can be replicated. The 1:8 supercar does not have to be a fancy shell around a huge gearbox. -

I would love to see an electric car, for the 4th time the designers could not copy-paste the boring gearbox with the fake engine, they'd be forced to come up with some functions to make the car interesting :) -
@Bartybum as I mentioned Marvel movies happen to have pretty violent and realistic scenes, yet here is Black Widow with a gun, or another Black Widow set where the characters have guns and even the helicopter is heavily armed. If these are ok then I don't see why any other "fictional" weapon should be not ok. Honestly I'm not a fan of realistic toy weapons in general but I think this fictional vs non-fictional approach is totally made up.
-
So now we start to compare how fictional the story is? C'mon... TLG's "no real life weapon" policy is bended all the time as the actual franchise requires... There are Marvel minifigs with weapons that look pretty realistic, yet they are released just because the movie is fictional. Apparently any weapon from a non-documentary movie is fine until it's not licensed from the manufacturer.

All I can suggest is to try to check all gears in the gearbox and see where is the disconnect, might be a wrong placement of a gear.
