End of a Reviewing Era
kbalage replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I told you @Jim this already, but will write it here again - I really hope that this move from TLG won't be the definite end of the excellent reviews we enjoyed through many years here on Eurobricks, and all the hard work behind them will receive the "official" appreciation they deserve. They've been around long before I even thought about making anything similar, and provided great value to the fans. I also hope some day you'll be able to sneak in at least a temporary studio setup in a corner of your house, I would love to see more of those painfully perfect photos I always envied. Doesn't even need to be LEGO, you are free to find a more interesting subject -
I called LEGO customer service yesterday and although they could not share more details about the reasons for this change or when the new version will be available, they asked me if I wanted to get the updated sticker sheet sent to me, free of charge of course. More details and some theories in this video:

It really depends on your needs. compact Panasonic cameras are also great, but they have a smaller sensor and fixed lens. The first does not help with low light performance, the second removes the possibility to buy a wide angle, macro or telephoto lens to expand your filming possibilities. I suggest to spend some time on camera review sites, check their test footage, create a list about your must have features and then you can choose which one fits your needs within the desired budget.

It was mentioned previously in the topic, the Panasonic Lumix G7 is a great and versatile mirrorless camera with interchangeable lenses for future expansion possibilities. It's not a new model, but I see it being listed at ~500 USD around here. Any models following it (G8, G9...) or the similar GX series like the GX80/GX85 are good for this purpose, the latter can be even cheaper.

So after checking the reveal photos this "new" design was actually present on the 2022 car when it was unveiled. It is confusing since those blue stripes and the McLaren logo are on the smaller wheel cap, while LEGO's version had the Pirelli text there which supposed to be on the tire originally. But since then McLaren signed a sponsorship deal with Google, so this will be their design going forward: This means we get an updated LEGO version which is not more accurate than the previous one...

I also thought during the review that Pirelli might update the branding on the wet tires, there should have been a consultation after all between the 2 companies. When I talked to Chris Stamp about the 2022 Speed Champions sets, he said that Pirelli suggested to use the blue Cinturato branding on the F1 tire due to the LEGO tire's thread. The same should have happened with the Technic team, but based on the photos from the 2022 tests the wet tire is still the same: B But this whole blurred new look makes no sense at all. Why didn't they simply update it with the proper text? Since the car still has the Pirelli logo on the front it's not about any revoked licenses for sure.

Smaller Technic sets were not offered this year for review. Thank you for the constructive comment. If you had taken the time to follow my videos then you would have noticed that I had to conduct a renovation and move in the middle of the review season, meanwhile doing my best to finish and publish the offered reviews on time. As I saw @Sariel was in a very similar position, he also had to move to a new location. I can only speak for myself, but I already bought and reviewed the Monster Jam sets and the Chopper from this year's lineup, and yesterday the missing Technic sets from the March release also arrived. Contrary to your friendly suggestion it's not about the money, but about time and priorities. I am doing my reviews alone, and I don't think it needs a detailed justification why the early review of the Creator Expert DeLorean or the Vespa had more focus than a $13 Technic set. So, remaining Technic and other reviews are coming soon, down to the smallest polybags.

The future of Back to the Future
kbalage replied to 1980-Something-Space-Guy's topic in LEGO Licensed
It is definitely possible, but you'll need extra parts for the engine cover and the front bumper, apart from a few replacement pieces here and there to remove the hooks on the sides or the support studs for the flux bands. -

Yep, you can find it in my review video, and much more :) -

There's not much I can do about them, apparently TLG is not interested in closing this loophole for retailers. If anyone wants to do super early reviews without restrictions, the best way is to open a LEGO shop. My review is in the works, coming early next week. But it'll surely have details that this video didn't have ;) -
@Ngoc Nguyen I usually mention new parts and occasionally new colors, but I don't go through all the part list so I also missed these. I already recorded the review and it waits for editing, as the studio is half-dismantled now I won't add these parts. If you would like to see all new parts and colors precisely listed from a new set then the best source is to check the reviews at New Elementary

42139 - All-terrain Vehicle
kbalage replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Based on his comment on my Instagram post the set was apparently designed by Samuel Tacchi, he seems to be the hero who managed to push this gearbox numbering through TLG's approval system :D -

Here's my review of this great little set that finally brought justice to LEGO gearboxes :) -
Quoted the screenshot by purpose to make sense - the axle can be pushed in the hole without the smallest effort. Might not be a mathematically perfect fit but thanks to the flexibility of the parts there's no issue or even visible stress. I've seen multiple builds in official sets with more stress on the parts than this.
