DC Superheroes 2019 - Rumours, Speculation & Discussion
Whovastron replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in LEGO Licensed
Considering they’ve had the Harry Potter licence from WB for 17 years now, I don’t think they would be losing DC from them any time soon. The Superheroes line seems to be one that’s just gonna continue until superheroes aren’t popular anymore -
I usually never have a problem with stickers, even like them; but they are overdone here. There’s so many that just aren’t needed. There’s about 8 random 1x2 brick stickers that are mostly put in places you can’t even see them. And things like Moaning Myrtle just look odd.

Hagrid could have used the Lego games figures. also, had an idea, Gwarp could have been a regular minifig in this set

They only thing I think this set is really missing is the Astronomy Tower. It’s a very prominent and important part of the castle. And from the perspective this set is build at, an Astronomy tower built on a 16x16 baseplate would look perfect placed behind the east wing. I might have a go and making one myself.

It is very interesting that Lego would release a D2C depicting the Great Hall and Grand Tower at the same time as the system scale set. The great hall is pretty much the same size. I’ve literally had to remove my whole HP display to fit the D2C, no idea where to put the system Hogwarts sets though, will look weird being so close to the much more accurate version

DC Superheroes 2019 - Rumours, Speculation & Discussion
Whovastron replied to Anonknee Muss's topic in LEGO Licensed
A D2C true to form “comics” Batcave would be amazing. Nothing since the superhero revival has really lived up to the ‘06 Batcave to me. The batmobile, batboat, Arkham, and many minifigs have been greatly improved since, but all 3 we’ve had since 2012 haven’t beaten the OG for me. -
Lego BrickHeadz 2018 - Rumors & Discussion
Whovastron replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I’m not a fan of some of the random detachments from the Brickheadz style. The belly on Homer, for example, I get it, he’s fat, but the style is the same for the other 50 odd figures and to break it suddenly is odd, and the point is they’re square. If they gave Steve ears and round eyes, why change this? Geoffrey works because it’s still keeping the shape simple and square. probably something I only find weird, but oh well -
There’s so many more details in the castle that I didn’t notice before, like the House cup points counters. word of warning - almost 70 stickers, could give Ninjago City a run for its money. Whilst usually I have no problem with stickers, they’re a pain but they add to sets and I’ll be honest I kinda like the look of a sticker sometimes, if everything was suddenly prints I’d miss them. I think having the option too. However in regards to this set, there is a lot of overkill. Especially in The a Great Hall, there’s some brick detail and lattice shape stickers that really aren’t necessary, they add a little bit would not be missed. I also think things like Moaming myrtle is a bit of overkill, and the room of requirement stickers, that one just looks strange. the minibuilds of Hagrids Hut and the Whomping Willow are just great, the Willow somehow looks better than it’s system scale counterpart, it’s just a shame it’s not easy to lose with the castle. Looking forward to building the Horntail tomorrow. the interior for the rooms are great in terms of simple attention to detail, the great hall looks grand and the stained glass technique is perfect. All the small room details like the vanishing cabinet, the gramophone, the mirror of Erised - all fabulous. And the build techniques throughout are simple yet work very well. I think people will be surprised how much of this set is comprised of 1x1s, because it’s definately nowhere near what people were suggesting, maybe a quarter or third of the build. There’s a good use of Cones and cylinders, and a good about of BURPS that are cleverly integrated without repetition. the build process is very ingenious too. You don’t do all the small builds first, or last, they’re evenly spread out. You start out with the boats and minifigure stand, but then it’s another 10 bags or so until the next mini-build. The Minifigures are well spread out too. The build can be repetitive, especially in the left half of the castle, but I think the process that’s good breaks in between building up the walls of the great hall; it could mostly be done at once, but it takes you to other parts to have a short break, which I very much appreciate in a set with such a long build time. The structure is very, very sturdy. Compared to the set the next size up (falcon) it’s will be no issue to move the thing. It nearly separates into two halves, not fully connecting, but using the same method as the ‘66 Batcave. And although I wouldn’t recommend it, you can easily hold a half in one hand, it’s that structurally sound, will benefit transport of the thing. Didnt intend to write that much, but it’s such a great set that there’s just so much to mentioned, and there’s still a quarter of the build to go! oh, and this blows the system scale Hogwarts out of the water (or lake). The system scale one is great, and it’s awesome to pose figures around, but this is the display piece you want of Hogwarts, the thing is bigger, more detailed, screen accurate and just a wonder to behold.

Well I’ve been building it with my girlfriend. Built a half of the castle each. Currently at /just under 8 hours. However she is a much less experienced builder than me. So it’s likely 9-10 hr build at a steady pace. If I’d been building it all myself I’d estimate under 8 hours, as I’ve had to take a few breaks to let her catch up, but we’ve kept the timer going. but then again I built the falcon in just over 12 hours, and people didn’t believe me at the time, maybe I have a super power

Fair enough, I guess we are almost finished on Hogwarts. Anyone who said price to part ratio doesn’t count on this set as it’s just small pieces is just talking insanity. There’s a great mix of small and large parts, just as much of each other. The set is also huge, it is well worth the money!

Yeah, you’ve said the same thing twice to me, but I said that in my original post. I just didn’t say specifically about it being a trilogy because you never know they may make more in the future. I never said it was evergreen, I just said it’s something that will be around for the films.

3 1/2 hours into the build. I’m building the tower and great hall, whilst my other half is building the east wig/bridge/building connecting to the tower. So handy that it comes with 4 instruction manuals

Minecraft has been going 5 years, Speed Champions 4, with no sign of either slowing down. They’re close enough to evergreen as licences themes have been at Lego. Don’t really see any reason why you’d specifically say those weren’t. even if they’re not evergreen, they have both lasted longer than most previous licences themes, so the likelihood of Harry Potter being around for a while is good. And I did say specifically that Jurassic World will be around as long as the films are being released, I never said they’d be releasing sets after the films stop being released.

Something I think people are forgetting with HP being evergreen, is that Lego is nowadays more a landscape suited for evergreen licences themes, especially compared to back in the day of like pre-2013. Star Wars, Marvel, DC, Disney, Minecraft, Speed Champions, even Jurassic World, which of course isn’t evergreen, but will most certainly come back with each movie. I think Lego is keen on having evergreen franchises they can count on. Considering the ‘Wizarding World’ marketing, almost like Superheroes, and the press coverage of this theme, I think they are atleast hoping it can become one. Whether it will, who knows, but if it’s not to be, it will surely atleast last as long as Nexo Knights.

Whilst I agree with not getting over confident, I think the popularity of middle earth amping children when compared to the Wizarding World is not very comparable. The middle earth franchise appeals more to older collectors nowadays, children are very into HP now because their parents were kids when the franchise began, and a whole new generation is being introduced. EDIT: all I want from this theme is some characters from the later movies, a few more Hogwarts sets (atleast the Clock tower, Astronomy tower and bell towers) and a proper Basilisk and Hungarian Horntail

I expect that it will last atleast as long as the Fantastic Beasts series does. A film every couple of years will increase interest in it.

The Fantastic Beasts films are the excuse for making the sets I’m pretty sure. With the hype around those films every few years, interest in Wizarding World merch with keep coming back. Thin is with the debate about popularity and evergreen. Is that it’s not just lego which is cashing in right now, in the U.K. at least. Over here Primark, a very popular high street clothes store, has a large Harry Potter line of clothes and home items, and they don’t really have any other licences lines except for some reality TV show merch. In Sainsbury’s, a supermarket, Harry Potter Home merch has now got a huge selection, atleast twice as much as what they offer for Star Wars. In fact they had a huge ‘back to Hogwarts’ display at the front of my local store with loss of new merchandise, most of it was sold out straight away. on top of this, Hamley’s London, the UK’s biggest toy store, apparently has a whole floor dedicated to Harry Potter now, which is unheard of I’m pretty sure, even lego share a floor with Mega Blocks and Kinex. theres also a new line of action figure dolls that have recently launched which are fairly successful it seems. of course none of this speaks for long term sales, but interest in this property has greatly increased in recent years from a collection of factors; the children from when the books and films first being released now have their own children that they are introducing it to, the Wizarding world and studio tour attractions, the stage play and book, and of course Fantastic Beasts. who knows if this hype will last, but atleast for the next year or so, I think Lego should cram out as many sets as possible to cash in on this

I’m gonna predict a March release for wave 2, a winter wave seems too soon, but you never know, we will be away of any plans fairly soon as stuff is leaking now. I just hope for a battlepack type Set with a student from each house!

There will likely be Juniors sets like Cars 3 and Incredibles 2
-
Well it’s extremely popular so far, and there will be a Fantastic Beast films around every 2 years or so to keep popularity in the Wizarding world alive. This will run for atleast 3 years I say, as Lego like to plan atleast 3 years of themes.
