I'd rather have Chimp Eyes with the original dialogue than the updated version where the dialogue makes no sense at all. Also, I'd rather have the tonally appropriate music in Jabba's Palace. And the removal of the CG crap that has been shoved into the original films. It's useless and it clutters up the frame. And Greedo shooting. Seriously, George's reasoning is bizarre. Somehow this makes Han NOT a "cold blooded killer?" He still shot at the same time Greedo did. He couldn't have processed that Greedo was shooting at him before he fired. He still shot for the same reasons. The only difference is that now it sucks. And the removal of the melodramatic "No!" at the end of ROTJ. And Sebastian Shaw as Anakin. And "Yub Nub." If you can't tell, I consider the special editions one of the most offensive things in cinematic history. But on a different note, that new video is great! Practical monsters and sets are always a good sign.

Glad to see another Houstonian on the forum! Looks like I'll be paying a trip to the store tomorrow... Did you see the X-Jet or any other summer releases?

Is anyone else finding the X-Jet at their local LEGO store? I'd hate to drive there for nothing

Ghostbusters 30th Anniversary CUUSOO set Discussion
montgocloud replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in LEGO Licensed
I wonder if the Ecto-1 will have a similar release to the Delorean in that its release in the LEGO store is earlier than the official shelf date. I remember coming in the minute the store opened on August 1 and walking out disappointed since they were already sold out as of the night before. And then it was sold out everywhere online for months. Hopefully this won't be a repeat of that situation and LEGO will produce a larger initial stock. -
Though the set title is perplexing, I have to say that the Blackbird is refreshing. I love the ample interior space and it's a nice touch that there are more seats than there are X-Men figures so later releases will be able to fit as well. I'd say the only drawback is the lack of landing gear.
-
That Imperial Star Destroyer hardly looks like it could destroy any stars! [insert laugh-track here] The interior and figures look nice though. And in all seriousness, despite being laughably small, the exterior is a huge step-up as well. This appears to be a day one purchase along with the Cantina! As Robianco said, it's time to dismantle some old sets... Or build some new bookshelves!
-
I'm going to go with the general consensus that this is a fake, albeit a good fake. I'd love to get my hands on that figure!

So I saw The Amazing Spider-Man 2. I don't know what to think of this film... It's got a lot of great scenes, performances, and ideas hidden under a thick layer of mess. At times, the script struggled and the tone was all over the place. The action scenes were, for the most part, polished, but they also felt artificial. The score was interesting, particularly Electro's Suite and how it was integrated into the movie, though I'm still baffled that Spider-Man doesn't have his own heroic theme like the original Sam Raimi trilogy. But the main problem is that it tried to do too much so it felt overstuffed. As a result, some moments that should have been especially poignant didn't really resonate with me. It needed to be simplified. I did love Dane DeHaan and I think his performance as Harry Osborn was one of the highlights of the film. The over-the-top tone was refreshing. I'm just so conflicted. Overall I'd give it a 3/5.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
montgocloud replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
When I said culture, I didn't mean Turtles culture, I meant Japanese culture. The Foot Clan now wield guns and Shredder is white meaning that the original Oroku Saki story is out of the question. The family and brotherhood themes aren't as poignant without those. Anyways, I'd be happy to discuss this further over PM or in the Turtles discussion in the Culture and Multimedia subforum. I didn't mean to come off as extremely forceful before, it's just as you said: this movie isn't for me. -
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
montgocloud replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
Eastman was OK with the idea of Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles back when that was the movie pitch... So yeah. Plus Peter Laird, the other co-creator of the Turtles, is pretty much condemning this project. They've sapped the out the culture, the look, and the overall atmosphere and left us with a bland blockbuster. -
Wow. This casting is fantastic! The major draws for me are definitely Oscar Isaac (he was phenomenal as the lead of the Coen Brothers' Inside Llewyn Davis) and Adam Driver (a great actor with a huge range, though I primarily know him from Frances Ha). Coupled with a competent man behind the camera, a great screenwriter, and John Williams, Episode VII looks to be far better than the abominable prequels.

I agree. The tone that Man of Steel established was way too grim, and I think we'll see this effect the whole of the DCCU for the foreseeable future. This could have been rectified if they went ahead and did a Man of Steel 2 that introduced all of the classic Superman characters and had a much lighter tone. It wouldn't be perfect seeing as Man of Steel saw Superman killing Zod, pushing the character to his limits before his limits had even been established, and the next logical step would be to explore the emotional response from Superman, requiring a similar dark tone, but it would be a start. The road looks rocky for the DCCU and introducing Batman, Wonder Woman, and Cyborg in Man of Steel 2 doesn't seem like a smart move. So far it looks like a reversal of Spider-Man 3's "too many villains" issue, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Wow! I loved this game back in the day and it's nice to someone with enough passion and talent to undertake such a challenge. Have you/are you going to be adding interiors to the models?
-
Well that's pretty anticlimactic. It seems like a toned down version of the Grand Carousel we got a couple years ago. A definite pass to be sure, it'll give me more money for that Sandcrawler!

Some Advice needed...Cloud City Moral Dilemma.
montgocloud replied to DuckBricks's topic in LEGO Star Wars
If he's in his dark ages, why would he care? Don't say something like, "I would like that back," go more for a, "remember that Cloud City set you had...?" And then talk about how cool you thought it was and inevitably he'll ask if you want it. ...Or you could just gut it up and do a mass search for the pieces with a printed inventory. I did that last year along with a couple other sets using Bricklink. It took a bit of effort but it was rewarding to be sure! -
Why is everyone comparing the AOS Blackout to the one in Ghost Rider? They're based on two different characters; it's apples to oranges.

I think it's ironic that these movies are branded AMAZING Spider-Man when so much, including themes, stories, characterization, and even large chunks of dialogue, is lifted from the Ultimate comics.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
montgocloud replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
What is with Raphael's mouth? Why is it orange? Did they change its color so it would match the color of the banner and make it look open? If so, what is its normal color? It's so bizarre. -
Business! This is the weirdest decision I've ever heard and it's sure to confuse audiences who aren't following comic book movie news... Is it just the trailer? Or is it new footage?
-
Yeah, I reckon it'll be the Joker. His current design is close enough to the Cesar Romero incarnation to warrant reusing it. In fact, I bet the figures will be the same as the Juniors set.

Supported as well! Not sure if LEGO will be willing to do a second set, it will probably depend purely on the sales of the Ecto-1.

Is it me or does that Tumbler just look like a recolor of the 2013 Tumbler? If it is, then they just included it in the picture because it's easy. Making the 1966 Batmobile takes a bit more effort... Would they design one just for a little picture? Probably not!

To help settle this, let me point out that the photos being posted of green Drax are on-set photos. Judging by the trailer, Guardians of the Galaxy has a very rich blue/orange color filter, which drastically drowns out and distorts green, resulting in a more gray Drax. Maybe it's not as gray as the minifigure, but it's definitely closer to light bluish gray than any LEGO hue of green.

Which Superheroes Set Should I Buy ?
montgocloud replied to Peasantseverywhere's topic in LEGO Licensed
I wholeheartedly agree, and I'd like to recommend "Avengers: Captain America vs. Hydra." But it really all comes down to what your preferences are. Do you like Marvel or DC better? Who are your favorite heroes? (If you like DC better then I sure hope you love Batman... )- 8 replies

Last night of Agents of SHIELD was fantastic! Great action and character stuff. It was interesting to see how the underlings of SHIELD reacted to the events during the Winter Soldier and the fallout. I'm almost positive that this show was specifically created with the movie in mind, because all of this is way too fascinating and the character ties run too deep to be a series of simple tie-in episodes.
