I was going to disagree with you, but then I thought about the controversy that Jabba's Palace received. So unless there's a specific story focus (other than the Younglings) and it's not just a "dollhouse," then I'm sure some group will find something to be angry about.

Lego Loosing the Ball with Superheroes Sets
montgocloud replied to Tom Jurassic's topic in LEGO Licensed
On the contrary, I'm happy that Marvel is mainly based on animated shows. That way we can have more obscure heroes and villains that we would not have ever gotten otherwise. If they did a whole bunch of movie tie-ins, then instead of having MODOK, Red Skull, and Power Man, we would have three more Captain America and Thor figures. Animated shows provide diversity, part of the reason I hate the DC line of sets and wholeheartedly agree that they should stop being so Batman-centric. -
What is your favourite and least favourite Super Heroes Minifigure?
montgocloud replied to Godtshep's topic in LEGO Licensed
My favorite for Marvel is the 2014 Captain America variant, I'm a huge sucker for vibrant colors. Least favorite would have to be Spider-Man. He is my most loved superhero of all time and this is an extremely poor representation of him, mainly because of the over-abundance of blue. For DC, my favorite is definitely Wonder Woman. Detailed printing, unique elements, the works. Least favorite is a tie between Lois Lane and Colonel Hardy. Sometimes cheekbones work on LEGO figures, but on Lois, no. Hardy, meanwhile, could use some detail; he looks painfully bland. -
I agree, the vehicle is extremely subpar, though I think that Electro makes up for it. I have to say, I love the electric platform that's included. The real breakout of this wave has to be Hulk Lab Smash. The play features are integrated well into the structure and the minifigures (especially MODOK) are fantastic. Also, the fact that we're even getting an AIM lab is a good sign for the future of this theme.

Hello and welcome to the Adaptation Nation...
montgocloud replied to Capt. Redblade's topic in Culture & Multimedia
That sounds fantastic. If there's one thing I love, it's bizarre and/or awful adaptations. I think a good focus to have is on the obscure. Sure, it's always nice to hear others' opinions on movies that you have watched, but being introduced to a film is, in my opinion, even better. Best of luck on your series, I'll be watching. -
I hope that the Hulkbuster armor isn't going to be renamed like it was in IM3. I was so excited when I saw it in the trailer only to figure out it was called Igor... oh... I don't know why they made the asinine decision to rename every single comic based armor in IM3. Way to tease the fans, Marvel. But since this armor appears to actually be busting Hulks, I don't see why they wouldn't call it the Hulkbuster armor.

What was the last movie you watched?

But the situation isn't dire enough to even consider a Robocop. In order to convey a "do the ends justify the means" type theme, we have to be in a very bad place. Otherwise there isn't really a question, is there? They missed a great opportunity in exploring the concept of pro-robot versus anti-robot, and Robocop is only seen as a way for Omnicorp to make money. There isn't a clear debate on whether real world America would be better off with Robocop. -
I don't see why they couldn't. It's a LEGO piece; that would be like saying that they couldn't reuse and recolor the Captain America shield mold for an Amazonian Wonder Woman figure.

What is your least favourite Super Heroes set and why?
montgocloud replied to Godtshep's topic in LEGO Licensed
I still find it hilarious that Spider-Man's gut reaction to the idea of having a vehicle is quite similar to ours. Though I have found the builds of the Spider vehicles to be pretty nice! I think people would have less animosity towards them with a simple color swap to dark blue. Actually, The Mandarin in this set was based off of concept art for Iron Man 3. I think LEGO wasn't given much information about the film to be honest, and that's why the sets suffered in terms of accuracy. Hopefully they've learned their lesson for GOTG... -

My whole problem with the rebooted Robocop is that Detroit didn't look like a hellhole. The audience needs to be given a reason for Robocop to exist. -
Ever bought a set just for a minifig only to throw it into a box?

Light damage is bricks cracking easier or yellowing due to direct exposure to sunlight. -

montgocloud replied to MatthewH's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Switch out periodically between themes or subthemes. Sure, it's sometimes hard to decide which sets should be put back in the box (or storage container), but in the end, a neat display is better than a cluttered, messy one. -
I was mainly talking about movies that LEGO directly has rights to. But I see your point, together, there are five movies... Which further proves my point anyways. LEGO is capitalizing off of X-Men being in the public eye with the Blackbird set. DC meanwhile has... Teen Titans Go? That's why we're beginning to see some uninspired vehicle choices (Batplane anyone?).

DC isn't giving LEGO any source material. Their next movie is in 2016 and Beware the Batman is seemingly cancelled. There has been a resurgence of Batman '66 due to the shuffling around of rights. Marvel, on the other hand, is chugging out two movies a year and has two successful animated shows. Plenty of material! DC needs to stop canceling and delaying, it's just not good business for them.

I doubt they will discontinue the licenses any time soon, because from what I've heard the line has sold EXTREMELY well.

Those characters being, at least to kids: 1. Hulk-popular 2. Thor-popular 3. Falcon-second tier; I doubt many kids would have heard of him if not for the cartoon or the Winter Soldier. 4. MODOK-second tier unless kids have watched the numerous Avengers cartoons. 5. Taskmaster-obscure. So that's two popular characters driving a set featuring three lesser knowns, something that DC could definitely do if they had some decent animated source material to brand it with.

And also, I doubt this can all be blamed on LEGO. Why has Taskmaster been made? Because Marvel/Disney asked LEGO to base a set around the Avengers Assemble cartoon and might have even dictated the figures included, though I personally doubt they go that far. If you want to see Gorilla Grodd, Black Adam, Braniac, and all the other iconic villains, just hope that DC makes a Justice League animated show and asks LEGO to create merchandise.

Uh-oh... DC flinched and Superman/Batman has been pushed up a week. Not too sure what this says about the confidence the studio has in their film. I mean when Captain America wins in the 'Mexican standoff' between both Superman AND Batman, you know there must be some problem. This also says something about the confidence Marvel/Disney has in the Winter Soldier. I hope it's well deserved confidence and the film is as good as it seems!

Frances Ha! Easily viewable if you have Netflix, and my second favorite film of the year. Other 2013 standouts now available on DVD are Nebraska and Inside Llewyn Davis, all of which deserve your time. But if we're not concerned with how recent, here's a short but fairly diverse list to get you going (in order of release): Dr. Strangelove Catch-22 A Clockwork Orange Taxi Driver The Shining Silence of the Lambs Pulp Fiction Pi Zodiac Dragon Tattoo Trilogy-Extended (Swedish)

I think that Marvel's Agents of SHIELD is definitely picking up. We're finally on a path to get some answers to the piles of questions that the show has thrown at us. Also, I was watching the Avengers the other day when I noticed something interesting: Coulson's hero is Captain America, who, like Coulson, was an optimistic hero who presumably died and was resurrected. I think it would be interesting to see some parallels drawn between the two and how their resurrection effects their optimism in the upcoming Winter Soldier tie-in episodes.

What is your least favourite Super Heroes set and why?
montgocloud replied to Godtshep's topic in LEGO Licensed
For Marvel, the definite worst is the Spider Trike vs. Electro. The trike is abysmal (both in concept and in design) and it only includes one new figure, Electro. The worst set for DC would have to be Black Zero Escape. Again, only one new figure, and a unsatisfying build. -
This set looks enticing, though extremely expensive; I think I'll have to sell one of my kidneys to pay for it. But as an owner of the original Sandcrawler, I can say that this one knocks its counterpart out of the ballpark.

I'm sorry, but that's a mighty huge generalization considering that you just criticized another member for doing the same thing, only for the opposing viewpoint. Personally, I agree that while the figure is a nice throwback, it is not really a needed throwback. But I'll still be buying the book because, you know, pictures are fun and whatnot.

I'm not sure who the targeted audience for the retro Luke figure is. Kids probably won't be interested because most aren't interested in vintage stuff. Adults, unless they are trying to create a classic Star Wars display, will have no use for it either. And, in all likelihood, adults who want a classic Luke figure already have one. I think a figure based on Luke from the early posters of Star Wars would have been fantastic. But, alas, no such luck.

Quality of service at LEGO stores.
montgocloud replied to Gatthekid's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The Houston store in the Galleria has fantastic service. The employees are helpful and friendly, and I usually find myself striking up a short conversation with them whenever I go.
