Day 3 is up, see first post for the link. Yeah, I wanted to go with something I was reasonably confident might work for the group I'm dealing with, although I did make some fairly minor modifications. My biggest concern was how much chatter would end up going into it, and I think that was well founded. There has been positive feedback, so people are having fun with it even if they're not as fanatical about it as EB players. One thing I'm learning... hosting is fun but a lot of work! I hadn't built Rick's office or Marcy's suite until they were needed. Flexibility is good, but I'd rather have had a few more of my sets ready to go beforehand.

I'm pretty sure I saw a carrot on the All-Fruit tree!

Day 2 is up.

Day 1 has finished with player agent Bob Scorat being the first player eliminated. From my observations, this game has had tremendous role playing from everyone involved. Each player has really taken their character to heart. I think this is, in part, due to the fact that the setting is something they all can relate to, but there's also an element of wanting to partake in the story as much as playing the game. I'd encourage both new and experienced EB Mafia players to read this and see how much it is adding to the game experience. It has challenged me to question why I play the game, and whether or not winning is as important to me as creating a fun world during the game. Both are valid approaches.

Inspired by some of the games I've recently played here at Eurobricks, I asked around at another site I'm a part of to see if people would be interested in a Mafia game over there. There was enough interest to get it going, with some newbies and some with past experience. Since I decided to tell the story through Lego, I figured it would be acceptable to post about it here. Many thanks to Hinckley and def for giving me some advice about balance in a newbie friendly 11-player game. Relevant threads: Mafia! The Stadium Lockdown: C&D Thread Day 1 Thread Day 2 Thread Day 3 Thread Conclusion About the PEBA The Planetary Extreme Baseball Alliance, or PEBA, is a simulation baseball league that runs off the Out of the Park Baseball (OOTP) simulator. The story of the PEBA is that greed and corruption led to the demise of Major League Baseball, but the game of baseball was strong enough to come back in the form of the PEBA. Due to territorial rights disputes, all the PEBA teams are located in cities that did not previously have a major league team when the PEBA was founded in 2007. I encourage you to look around the website and check out some of the great articles that have been written about the fictional world we've created. The off-topic forum, where this game is hosted, is also a fascinating place for discussion of a variety of topics. I believe that forum registration is by invite only, so if you have any interest in joining, let me know and I'll connect you with the commissioner. Otherwise, you should be able to browse as a guest.

Here's my role PM: I don't think the one scum kill between the two teams was unbalanced. There were 9 original scum members, so that's a reasonable rate. However, when you divide up the scum into multiple teams, you severely weaken the scum's strengths. To add on top of that the burden of having the agents needing to take out a scum player to join the teams is ok, but you also have to consider who quickly the agents were likely to find the scum godfather in relation to how many townies can be connected in the same time frame. I think the agents were pretty lucky that they found scuba so fast.

I must say, I didn't really feel like I had much idea of what I was doing during the game itself. I can understand why Bob felt frustrated with the relative newbie-ness of our team, although I was convinced fairly early on that there was another scum team out there and that it really ought to be friendly to us. Blocking Flitwick was a bit of a shot in the dark, but I just had a feeling about him being important based on his complete lack of anything controversial in the day thread. This is something I haven't figured out yet... I don't really understand how to try to reach out to more townies later in the game as the only game I've played town in, I was cleared the second night. I felt like it was important to try to communicate more, since Def was at that point cleared beyond any doubt in my mind, but I clearly would've been better served by maintaining my quietness. To be true, I really wasn't trying to fish for roles, but I can understand why it came across that way. I really just wanted to look like an interested townie who was trying to follow the town leaders. I think this game was a good learning experience for me. I was pretty convinced by day 4 that the game was either really unbalanced or really strangely configured. In the end, I think the game was unbalanced because of the mistakes on night results. I also have to confess to being particularly frustrated early on that TBW was the day 1 lynch. As for my day thread play, I was a lot more quiet than I intended to be simply because my work schedule was much busier and I usually can't contribute as much on weekends due to my family commitments. I also think the timing of my demise worked out quiet well in that regard. I had committed to the game with the understanding that my wife was due to give birth right at the tail end of the time commitment window. In the end, though, my son came 2 weeks earlier than anticipated, just after my lynch.

Yakuza Family - Confirmation and Discussion

I'm not dead yet! -
I confess that's not entirely out of the question with me. Those comments came at the same time that I posted the comment about Tamiko being the only one who I thought could verify me - because of my role. The point was merely that I had little doubt you would lynch me even if I told you my role. In the short term, it's the only way to verify my claim in light of your result. In the longer term, there are other ways, but I didn't have any reason to expect you to go for that approach.
-
I have cast my vote and laid out a case against another candidate for a lynch. Perhaps it wasn't the same candidate as you, but my case is there for all to see. Why didn't I state my role earlier, because it was possible for a more convincing result to come in between the time of the first suspicions and the voting period. I came clean on my role as soon as I was able to after the voting period began. If you look back, you can see that I alluded to the role earlier, but my preference is to never reveal a role until the votes make it clear it is necessary. You never know when something might change or a role reveal can aid the scum. I'm sure they're having a grand time high fiving each other in secret over their good fortune that a Yakuza has investigated as scum. This is quite different than what Shizuko was stating. You were questioning the technicality of the rules, while Shizuko was questioning the comment itself. That said, it's a piece of the puzzle and not the only thing. My comments are dealing with a combined view of the situation over the course of our time here, not the single events from day 1. Certain things look better or worse in light of other behaviors at other times. This is how our views change of people over time in order to find those that have done a better job at hiding their true intentions.
-
Fixed that for you.
-
You may be right, but I haven't been privy to that information. I don't imagine my suspicions will affect you much if what you say is true. Maybe, although it's also possible that we are able to hunt down the scum without getting to that point. My mistake was in how I approached Norio to try to begin working with him more when it became clear that he was most likely a true Yakuza, but hopefully I can learn from that in the future. I can still be useful to our Family as a dead-man walking, so to speak. Once we get to a point where no more unconfirmed Yakuza are around, lynch me then. This is exactly the sort of thinking that I simply cannot agree with!

Ok, I'm going to Vote: Shizuko (CallMePieOrDie) For the following reasons: 1. She was quick to cast suspicion on Emi's argument against Yasu on day 1, calling it vague when it was anything but. 2. She followed the bandwagon on Ichirou in an agressive manner. After others had begun accusations against Ichirou, Shizuko agressively pursued the case. This was in stark contrast to her handling of Yasu. 3. On day 3, Norio revealed Minoru as the second blocker. Shizuko then responded with a list of reasons why Minoru was suspicious, quoting Minoru several times from day 1. This is all well and good except... Shizuko did this VERY quickly after Norio revealed Minoru. So quickly in fact that I think it's highly unlikely she could have found all this and composed that reply unless she already knew Minoru was suspect. 4. She was fairly quiet on day 4, but given the result on Hiroki, that's not surprising. Hardly anyone had much to analyze after Hiroki's ineffective defense. 5. She didn't contribute really anything on day 5 other than to cast her vote. 6. After what appeared to be agressive pursuit of leads on days 1-3, Shizuko has very much become passive. Here on day 6 again, she has shown up merely to vote and join in on a seemingly easy lynch. There are different ways to approach being a miller. Claiming early to the wrong person is a very easy way to get lynch. I had no expectation earlier that there was an ability to confirm me through Tamiko, and even if there was, I'm not sure I would have been able to find that person. Had I been able to find a Yakuza role cop, they probably would have had to put their life on the line to save me. Probably not worth it, and I'd rather we have our role cop around than me anyway. Not unless it's true.
-
No. There is a logical explanation for a scum result on me, but you will likely lynch me for it regardless. The fact is, that I am a miller. I think if you look back through my contributions, you'll see that I have been decidedly pro-Yakuza, however I have been wary to take on a larger contribution due to the fact that were I to be investigated, I would be outed as scum even though I am not. Norio now has his scum result on me, and as such I expect that most everyone will go through with the lynch. As a miller, I have no ability beyond my own reasoning with which to catch mutineers and agents, leaving me with very little defense in light of a scum investigation result. If I were scum, I would most certainly claim something more powerful and verifiable. At this point, it's unlikely either rogue faction has goons remaining, so I would have something to claim which I could actually show my results from. Look through the day threads and you'll see that this is all consistent with all that has happened to this point.
-
I don't understand why that's not convincing enough for you. I'm convinced by it! Seriously, though. I don't think there's anything I could say to convince anyone that Norio's result isn't worth testing in the mouth of the dragon. If this result came back on anyone else, I'd react the same way you all are reacting. If I had a power role, I would have already been a part of a core group of verified Yakuza. For me, it's merely ashame that I wasn't verified by Tamiko, as I believe that's the only way my true Yakuza nature would have been revealed. At any rate, it appears you'll be joining me shortly. There's no need to trust your result because I know the truth of it. Trust is based on an element of uncertainty. Once something is known for certain, there's no trust required anymore. Everyone else already trusts your result. I would, too, if I were them.
-
An investigation of scum on me? That simple can't be as it's patently false. Perhaps this is your way of trying to get a rise out of me in the threads, but I am a loyal Yakuza through and through. This result is either fabricated or merely false. Yesterday, you told me in private that you had gotten a scum investigation on Cherry Blossom so your results are unreliable. Yes, you got Hiroki, and I don't have any doubt that you are true Yakuza looking merely to find the mutineers among us, but I am not one of them. If you lynch me today, you'll have wasted a day.
-
I'm a bit disappointed that you only gave yourself 3 thumbs up, Norio! Surely you deserve more than that! Or at least one of these: All kidding aside, I'm most disappointed that Kenta and Shiro haven't spoken up despite being asked specifically to do so. Ignoring a vote against you can be ok if it's not backed by much or if there are other more pressing targets to lynch, and it does give another night in which you might be cleared. However, it's not always the most family friendly way of cooperating. Also, I presume your list is just based on today. It seems to me that Akira helped reveal Isamu to us and aided in the confirmation of Hiroki's vote. That lowered my suspicion of him a bit. In contrast, Lizzy got a thumb up for responding to your request, but the overall contributions of Lizzy still seem suspect to me for reasons that Emi has previously outlined. Akio's vote today for Cherry Blossom struck me as odd in that it was prefaced by a few paragraphs of suspicion on Chieko, with the vote being justified as a way to avoid splitting the vote early. In the end, I think most of us feel that Cherry Blossom's response wasn't all that satisfactory. However, on a day where we didn't start with a strong lead like the past few days, I thought it was odd to voice suspicion on one person but vote another before the unconvincing defense was put forth. Shizuko is someone I've been watching a bit as she has struck me as contributing to discussions but often in a way that seems to me to be following another's lead. As a pattern, I can see this as a good place for scum to hide, but it can also be seen as something helpful in supporting Yakuza. I don't feel I've seen enough from her to lean one way or another on, so she's really just someone I'm watching still.

Yeah, that's a fairly big deal and I’m encouraged by it. It means we’ve lost one fewer Yakuza than we thought. I didn’t get the sense that Aiko was actively trying to hurt our cause, but I can’t really say that for sure. Now we’re free of a potential conflict in her goals with ours, and losing just Tamiko is far preferable than losing Tamiko and another Yakuza.
-
That seems fair enough. Not a great defense, but I agree that quietness isn't something that we should hold specifically against people. But... What? Why such an agressive anti-Yakuza response here? Being vanilla and taking someone out with you doesn't seem to line up to begin with. Threatening to take someone else with you seems particularly anti-Yakuza. I can't see how that would really benefit the Yakuza in any way.
-
Vote: Cherry Blossom (Whitefang) Cherry Blossom hasn't been super quiet, but her comments haven't been of the substance that strike me as helping move us forward in rooting out the mutineers.
