Heartlake Heartbreak - Day One: Heart to Heart
fhomess replied to Darkdragon's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Oh wow, I hear the echo's too. I hardly ever hear echoes out on my ranch. You don't think one of the other horses was involved, do you? I mean, a horse is a horse, of course. Of course! And no one can talk to a horse, of course, but we DO have talking horses here, so this is all REALLY weird! I can't imagine a horse would want to kill another horse, though. Oh dear, that would just be unthinkable. I can't imagine it. It must be one of the others here, but who? -
The parishioner in the front row closest to the piano looks like he's trying to pinch a loaf. What's holding the stained glass windows in place?

What do you think of CMF Series 9 teaser release by TLG?
fhomess replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I could care less about the teaser. I like having some idea of what's coming, but I don't particularly care if I know exactly. I like the idea that there will still be a surprise or two when the product actually ships. As for the poster, I'm not sure what it's supposed to be telling me. Is the product actually shipping on 3 Dec or is that simply the date Lego is releasing more info. It seems like the former and I wonder if that might not be jumping to conclusions. I'm actually quite disappointed that S10 & S11 have already had so much information revealed about them. To me, it's a bit like watching a sports event where you already know the outcome, or opening a Christmas present when you already found out what it was in your parents' closet a few weeks earlier. Not as much fun. If information gets leaked (intentionally or not), I'd rather have that be more spread out and not too far in advance. -
Your Aqualand sure does attract some odd visitors! Love the jellyfish.

Trouble in the Streets of Gotham: Conclusion
fhomess replied to Shadows's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
This was my first bloodbath and I must say I really didn't get this game format other than an entertaining way to watch everyone die. There wasn't any useful discussion in public from most players. My actions: 1. Investigate Def 2. Block Scuba -
Heartlake Heartbreak - Signup Thread
fhomess replied to Darkdragon's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
1. I have played in several games, including Witchbreed, IMHOTEP, Yakuza, Excalibur, and Ragnarok. Full list in my About Me page. 2. Provided the game days last the typical 72 hours, yes. I'll be doing some travelling over the holidays, but nothing that should prevent me from contributing as I'll have internet access at the various stops. 3. Hmm... now that I think about it, you did say "6 or so weeks", and if "or so" turns out to be on the order of hundreds or thousands, I'm not sure I can commit to a game that lasts that long. A few additional weeks will not be an issue, but I want to make sure all my bases are covered here. 4. Cake and steak rhyme, so it's possible they're both scum. However, they're spelled differently, so if they are scum, they're probably not on the same scum team. I'm not convinced yet. Apple, however, is 100% certain to be scum, as an apple a day keeps the doctor away, and that's an anti townie night action. So Vote: Apple. Also: Vote: Dannylonglegs for posting while I was composing. -
Nonsense. It clearly rolls up like an old portable movie screen. As for the subject, given the quantity of sets that contain a rat, it's pretty clear that Lego has an infestation problem and I'm glad someone has finally decided to address this.

Trouble in the Streets of Gotham: Day 2
fhomess replied to Shadows's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
Why doth our bedeviled blue blooded bloke Believe he evaded death to himself, When death rained down on the rich and the broke? Perhaps he thinks he's some righteous old elf. Death by a carrot seems an odd way to go So I'd like to hear more from our friend the bunny. I must question if he's really a true hero Some well may laugh, but I don't think it's funny. -

Too many here are pointing out their skills No comments that will help decide our wills Just speaking for the sake of being heard It really makes me want to flip the bird. -

Upon false accusation they may fall The villains who would nigh betray us all Their odd responses we can analyze To crush their evil schemes between our thighs. With regards speaking in poem or song To think it scummy seems a bit too strong I have to disagree with Fiddlevilter You scumdar seems to be a bit off kilter. -

I'm sure that we can find the traitors here! Each one of us should think upon the day and use our minds to bring about new cheer by vanquishing the villains in our way. -
Introducing... Cerebrus! Cerebrus was born with a tremendous self regard for his own intelligence, and believes himself capable of solving any crime with his own impeccable logic. His super lightweight helmet is countoured to the exact shape of his brain as taken from the medical imaging scans he frequently requests in his quest to help humanity learn how he became so brilliant. It also features a heads-up display which allows him to cross reference past criminals.

He seems to have a hard time understanding how anyone could think differently than he does. -
I think there was a bit of confirmation bias in your lynch. For me, it wasn't that you did a lot more to convince me you were scummy so much as you didn't do much to convince me you weren't scummy. You hadn't really done much to that point to convince me you were trying to help town, although the same can be said for some quiet townies. The vote for White Fang on day 1 really was careless and excessive given the situation. Players who aren't paying attention will always cause me to take a harder look at them. Either they're not helping town, or they've already got other (scummy) ideas. IMO, WBD was so successful as the Vig because when he's been vanilla in past games, he hasn't just tried to ride the coattails of the town power roles. He's been very active in trying to find scum, and he was able to take what he's learned then and apply it very successfully in this game. I would think the same will help him to appear townie the next time he's scum. I've had some issues adjusting to the new text editor. It's easier for people who don't want to deal with BBCode, but I've got a lot of experience with it and some of my base expectations were shifted. I usually compose long responses elsewhere just to keep track of my thoughts better.

General Discussion and Announcements
fhomess replied to Dragonator's topic in LEGO Mafia and Role-Play Games
As someone who's still developing my mafia game, I appreciate the deadboard as a place to spout theories with the other dead players in hopes that I can play along with the remaining few days and learn something. If everyone agrees not to share what they learn there with living players, then I think it works out fine. -
I have to comment on this as I spend WAY too much time thinking about fun game configurations than is probably beneficial for my health. It's probably why I'm more inclined to believe unusual theories like Scuba's 2-team, 1 name idea. Those odd roles are what takes this from a basic game to a non-basic game. They added a LOT to the game. The investigator who had to compare two players rather than just look at one player at a time added a tremendous amount of intrigue to the game, and lent credit to Scuba's theory. That role may not have added much functionally, but it added a tremendous amount strategically. Agreed!

I also think DD played a great game, although I did notice you avoided placing a hammer vote on Genaro on Day 2. When we were trying to get that final vote, you were online but didn't place the vote. I called you on it early on Day 3 and you managed to assuage my immediate concerns but I did have a nagging suspicion in the back of my mind. Why did the scum team kill me after I came out and said my inheritance failed and I was now vanilla? Was it merely the concern that I was lying about that? I didn't think you knew that I had that action, so it would not have made sense to come out with that information unless it was true. A quick comment on Scuba... I think your aggressive style works really well in terms of frustrating scum and trying to root them out. The problem is that it can be grating on the town. I expect that in some games it will serve you very well, and in other games, like this one, it will not be as helpful. It makes it hard to tell which side you're really helping, but it does help you distance yourself from players who've been confirmed scum. After Hinck came up scum, I pretty much had no doubt that you were town. As for metagaming analysis of other players, and this is in relation to Hinck's comment, all of us who've been involved in a few games do it by now. We all read each other a little differently, too. It's just about impossible to play a game and not be misread from a metagaming perspective, and it doesn't matter which team you're on. Someone, I think it might've been Scuba, expressed that he was not trusting me early because he didn't think I was playing as I usually do. I'm not sure how true that was or not, but I do know that I'm constantly evolving as a player. The fact that some people were reading Hinck one way versus another and contradicting each other doesn't necessarily mean they were wrong about how town-Hinck plays, they may just have been referencing a different point or perceived something differently. It's not something quantifiably right or wrong. Oh, and a note to future investigators... don't claim to scum on day 1, even if it does get scum-Hinck lynched eventually.

Wonderful game! I had a lot of fun even though I was killed. I'm not sure why the scum decided to kill me, but better me than a town PR. Unfortunately, I used the Bulletproof action that I was given on the wrong night. It sounded like I trusted the right people this game, which was a nice change for me, and hopefully what I revealed was somewhat helpful in the end.

Would you mind posting the LDD files for these? I've been wanting to get some better ideas for building 5-wide vehicles and I'd love to try these out.

I never knew Hurricane was a mafia role. Good thing we lynched him!
