  1. finally, a good star wars wave. it's been like 4 years since the last almost completely good one anyways love the transport; can't tell much about it rn but it looks fairly accurate and i like the shaping. here's hoping the function works ahsoka vs maul looks like garbage but given the two figures most people here are gonna keep while cashing in the rest and considering a couple pieces in neat colors it's fine; 147 pieces can only build so much anyways something about the mando fighter didn't quite gel with me initially: i thought it was the wings looking messy (and they do to some extent) but really the issue is the cockpit. hope the horizontal orientation looks more palatable because vertical feels off in a weird way slave 1 is surprisingly good: wasn't shocked by lego being able to make a slave 1 with 590 pieces (they've done with 570 and it can easily exceed a slave 1 with 1000 in size), but wow does it look nice. i consider the 2019 slave 1 to be a masterclass in lego design and the pinnacle of slave 1 renditions, but much like the x wing it's a smart move by lego to downsize the megablocker and smarter move to include mando and boba. here's hoping they do the same to the slave 1 as they did the x wing (downsize but make unique in a cool way) big grey shuttle seems like a big grey shuttle, which i guess is important for the finale. don't mind it, it has a strong silhouette, it's fine. --- overall congrats to lego for finally making a good star wars wave; was optimistic about the winter wave solely as a proof-of-concept series with smaller refined builds to clean up the overpriced fig-centric garbage of last year and some of the year prior (and the year prior and the year before that and before that and...). That this wave looks as good as it does is in no small part due to lego finally getting some strong content to base on, but if anything the choice to make things more affordable and the design standards set with wave 1 really helped get things going. here's hoping for another 2006-2014 era for star wars
  2. i think i was sold on its use in Golden Legend, but it looks like there's a demand for a bigger fire temple! gonna have to fix the "function" in my own moc and see if i can pump a good buck or two out of instructions >>>:)
  3. can't remember who but i believe it was duckbricks- it was duckbricks who laid it out; neat read i suppose
  4. That's a little funny: i'm pretty sure jay and lloyd have had the most dragons whereas kai and zane have had 2 dragons each (including now; firstbourne counts as far as red dragons but then that's 3 compared to jay or lloyd's 4 and the various other ones). If ultra counts here it's somewhat differentiated in texturing but really this just screams out that we could use some earthy dragons if anything
  5. disappointed by most of these sets for sure, but that was true even before their official images; i like how they look though. temple looks decent with some issues and a nice benthomaar figure, hydro bounty is solid with the small issue of being a little overpriced, water dragon is phenomenal etc. small problems with the fire dragon but overall i like the effort to make it look organic and with a couple mods it'll fit right in, whereas the raider is eh but it's not like it's ever been a particularly good design to start with. on the smaller side, jay car isn't really neat and hydro mech is fine at best. sucks that we didn't get more aquatic stuff tho: a bigger manta ray with scuba nya and scuba kai for $40 or $50 would've been nice but it is what it is
  6. god, talk about a finale this is definitely the year of nya despite her low presence in sets; cannot wait to see what comes next
  7. Reminder to use the dedicated ninjago: masters of spinjitzu topic to discuss this one; i don't want to play mod but remember what the point of this topic is
  8. the story of nya may be our "animated episode" of the season but also i've liked the 2d eps; last of the formlings kind of lacked overall but absolute worst was a blast and dungeon party was a lot of fun as a he man parody and a good way to flesh out the side cast. 2d animation costs a ton and sun creature studios are clearly made up of talented folks but i'd bet making those 3 minutes cost a fortune
  9. hell yeah; got mine last week and damn if it isn't good. love that the knees open up a range of poseability and, unlike the lloyd mech, means the thing doesn't need completely immobile legs to stand up perfectly; the knees if anything are a solid proof of concept that you can have even more stable legs with the knees. aesthetically it's phenomenal and i love the techniques put in use here. pieces are great too: i've gotten maybe 3 sets in the past 4 years before getting this one and almost all of them don't have very many new pieces (lloyd's titan mech was sent for free and i suppose it's got a couple nice slopes); but finally getting more shields, 1x1 brackets and those slick 1x2 rounded plates really helps a ton when you need to moc something up and speaking of which wip alt build (he started life as a rhino but the blade has since been removed)
  10. a buildable falcon would be cumbersome to get right: the head shape would be painful, angles and curves on such a smooth model agonizing, and integrating a solid wing function on top of that; it's nearly impossible to get right and look appealing. not to mention that the falcon hasn't appeared since 2018, the falcon proper hasn't appeared since 2015, and the last time anyone gave a damn about it was in 2012 - there's no incentive for a designer to labor on a bird that simply isn't recognizable to the ninjago audience. none of this is from experience btw please don't click my profile (unironically mine is terrible but that's another matter) i'd honestly call that a strength of the show: focusing on the characters, little minifigures who aren't really the major selling point of say a dynamic and interesting mech or a sweet sports car that inevitably ends up ruined on redesign is probably better to entice kids long-term and inspire them to create stories or analyze what are essentially plastic figures. master of the mountain for example is my favorite recent season because the ninja liberate two feuding proletarian factions against an exploitative bourgeious mineral profiteer a lot of time is spent developing the relationships of and engagements between our characters while looking inward, more than taking time to highlight how this mech that gets burned last minute is cool or how these rhinos who just live here ig are worth shelling cash out for; motm integrates the sets in but more as backdrops for our characters to grow, and thus it's a solid piece in spite of the fact that it's a toy commercial that depicts the parasitic nature of capitalistic enterprises and the inherent exploitative nature of profit
  11. It's more than likely just how the light hits the figure: aside from the raise from the backpack, the hood/helmet seems to fit just right on it, and the googles are moulded very big; but the transparent lens refracts the light and the head looks scrunched up in the figure consequently.
  12. gamer season === will be interesting to see what the final name is; can't wait and surprised it's already leaked so early!
  13. lol sure man i'll let u try to cover but i think we're taking this too long; good luck absolving your record to anyone who isn't braindead or gullible enough to think you've stopped
  14. this was from the beginning of this year === anyways yeah idunno i like the island, small but i guess it's not the focus for this year
  15. don't want to deviate too heavily from the topic at hand but i thought this would be important to highlight as far as albricks is concerned
  16. yeah that's really strange, i joined when i was around 17 for a contest i inevitably lost but now recontextualizing my interactions here that's kinda weird huh
  17. why would you need to be 18 to be on a lego forum
  18. idunno i thought it was simple and anyways excited for the next season: not excited for the sets but it'll be interesting to see what the ninja do with wojira
  19. oh huh we already went over the summer stuff not gonna lie im really disappointed by this wave: fire dragon feels lackluster as a model but that might just be the wings putting me off, since the dragon itself looks like it's employing some interesting techniques that i'm missing; and the raider is very eh tbh, it's strangely small and after the wonderfully large stealth raider this seems like a step back from even the very substantial stealth raider. non legacy stuff seems very eh overall too: the mech is charming but eh in some places, there's no reason we need a lego car for a submarine wave, the hydro bounty looks neat but also not my thing, the temple is very bare bones and tbh feels like it pulls from other sets more than it is original (ice castle fire fang and epic battle cole specifically), and the dragon is somehow somewhat disappointing in how strangely long and weird it is. really it might mostly be me: last week i went through the 2020 stuff to see if i really wanted anything and tbh the only thing i was interested in was the bounty, whereas this year it's the titan mecha and maybe a couple islanders things. i've got college and bills to pay and all my lego's safely set up in a cabinet in the dioramas i like em in so maybe it's dark age blues or something, idunno; either way this summer lineup feels very weak.
  20. seems like everyone forgot this bird --- entered into lego ideas' 10th anniversary contest: i fully expect to lose but w/e follow me on insta! https://www.instagram.com/p/CLSnXTqpdZH/ ... and that's it
  21. i would've built a mech but really neat! looks like he's having a good time
  22. i swear this forum was called eurobricks lol but regardless, it'd be dumb for them to remove her character from merch because she was annoying on twitter and anyways they wouldn't have to: separate the character from the actor and let it stay. besides, her figure doesn't even actually look like her so there's a plus ig good point: might as well mention that gina carano was a dogshit actress who got very slightly better near the finale but given this they could probably recast her with someone who can act and given the chance won't let instant fame and a newfound platform go straight to her head
  23. ngl i'd hope they return to 2018-level bricktober fig quality: afaict one new torso and head print per $13 pack isn't really a great reason to buy into this stuff
  24. i believe the scythe piece is an "activated" form of the scythe included with the ninjago weapons pack, but extended slightly; otherwise very good review! personally i'm a huge fan of the snake structure compared to the other 3 models, and the figures do their job (although i expect rattla with the euphemistic face to be available in more sets than this) so solid overall package for $10. here's hoping this summer gives us figures for lloyd and nya. (also not a member but have you considered applying for eurobricks' reviewer's academy?)
