not a fan of the shoulders or the feet but i'd be lying if i didn't say it wasn't impressive, especially having experience as a digital builder: good job!- 10 replies

LEGO Ninjago 2021

gonna have to agree: i like the keeper's village but it feels almost as small as last year's Journey to the Skull Dungeons and nearly the same in format. solid set and probably second best to the jungle dragon but still very underwhelming. -
finished this one legs-up by new year's and did the feet the day after, so this is technically my first moc of the year. hope that's a good omen! imgur album here: https://imgur.com/gallery/huYf6YZ mecabricks link here: https://www.mecabricks.com/en/models/eDvVOpmbaBR studio: https://www.dropbox.com/s/igvbfdtwegl1u97/samurai titan mech.io?dl=0

with how many of them got names in the original lineup despite being near-carbon copies of each other that might be interesting -

Not seeing an issue; definitely would've preferred unique ghosts instead of turning Ghoultar into the default ghost, although insofar as legacy serpentine go Lasha and Spitta do serve their purpose as foot soldiers/generic snakes (and we're getting Rattla so that should remedy that). The colors are jarring? quite surprised, though i suppose switching all the med. azure to dark bley should do the trick; overall the mecha looks very good to me so far but i can see how it might be jarring especially compared to the (far inferior) original titan mech. i will say that from a quick skim over the instructions that it looks as if niek intended to add waist rotation but it might not have worked in the final test; wonder if that quick mod will add to it or not on another hand: best lego can do is the rubber-insert add-on with 10.2 ball joints? otherwise no luck there; i could swear ratchet joints do the trick well but evidently not huh -

idunno, with how similar he is to his season 5 incarnation (and not the concept piece that appeared on the back of possession manuals to my dismay) i'm pretty sure they're going to drop him into a remade ronin's rex, but i definitely wouldn't put money on it. lego has put relatively "expensive" figures in cheaper subsequent sets: i can think of hero wu reusing part of sotfs wu off the top of my head, and there was dotd wu and honor nya in 2017 for instance. as far as a legacy ninjacopter goes i'd be completely down and it's probably likely but i think the main reason we haven't gotten it is because of the logistics of including a legacy 2 zane: is he yellow or silver? has he died yet? it's a complicated choice for em, and add to the fact that titanium zane is the most consistent bare-chest activist of the ninja and making exactly one figure for zane to represent two seasons where he took a radical design change in between has to be hard for ninjago's graphic designers, hence why we get lloyd in the legacy boulder blaster when zane would fit perfectly in the cage or on the plane. and yeah, here's hoping for more sky pirate sets to come with the legacy skybound wave! with how much more focus the villains' side was given for that season and how many pirate/location sets outnumber the 3-4 "hero" sets, 3 of those being dragons, lego's probably gonna have to budge -

more than likely a ronin's REX given ronin in the gardens (and i'd guess golden nya to match?) but if i'd want anything it would probably be a remade fire temple. either way we're probably at least getting the rex and one of the borg vehicles from possession; no way would they release a new wu's dragon this early and more than likely no dbx (though it would be interesting) -

i've heard this line go out around lego circles, but which trans neon orange retired recently? if it's fluorescent reddish i can understand that but it'll be a shame i suppose. -

love the model, not a fan of the overabundant lack of leg prints which i'm sure have something to do with lego cutting costs down but are still very jarring considering at least half the figs in both the city and gardens had decent leg prints and the ones that didn't managed to make it work out. tbh my major gripe with the two ninja are that legacy kai and zane aren't "zx-ised": it would've been great if lego had taken the legacy 1 designs and created new torso prints with unique shoulderpads (praetorian guard for cole if it fits, skulkin for kai, sotfs for jay) for a "zx" version of the ninja, a la hero wu and bounty nya, and used them in the bounty this year and gardens next. as it is the "zx" ninja are fine but this is more a personal gripe than anything. also decently curious as to how this will mesh with the other two given that it's on a lower sidewalk, but otherwise it captures a lot of important (and somewhat less important) locales in ninjago very well; will have to consider backordering the first two. -

it helps to declutter, esp for users who don't care about ninjago beyond the sets but thanks for acknowledging that! it's confusing as a new member but you get used to it ;) -

it's the thing they used in skybound but now more often; the show's still going pretty strong rn and there's a big plot thread about the "vengestone buyer" that the king of america shintaro gets revenue from using exploitative labor but yeah, to frosty: we still have a discussion thread. don't forget it! -

gonna say mentioning that new han's in two big expensive set and a bad one from 2 years ago isn't a great way to say "he's expendable", but yeah any attempts to rationalize this as a "good set" is just stockholm syndrome kicking in. micros have started to get better tho: the dewback's a cute little bugger for one thing- 9 replies

i'm really not seeing the issue: the city's literally an eastern cyberpunk amalgamation of old and new buildings, and the new model pulls it off really well. were you really expecting more garden when you saw the silhouette of a substantial building with a single pagoda? hell, it matches near exactly with the silhouette: blurry pics and fuzzy colors do not a photo change. anyways it looks phenomenal; i wish i had the other two but love the modern teal building and the vibrancy of the middle layer leading into the old world segment, and the pagoda representing a centerpiece to a corner looks swell as well. if anything, this looks better than the silhouette 5 of you were obsessing over for nearly 10 pages; what were you expecting? did you see the last two ninjago city sets? my only gripe is that i can't seem to see any indicator of a silver zane representing the titanium ninja statue, but i'm sure it's there and if it isn't the supply of pearl silver & pearl dark gray plain legs and a little nail polish should do the trick. also rip trans neon orange, that's the last color i would expect to go but i suppose trans fluorescent reddish orange works out in its stead -

finally a new jackjonespaw review wish there were more huts and a smaller speeder to make it a better remake of lego set 7113 - the set that shall not be remade, but dragonfly gun and figures are easily the best part; would've liked better lighting on the photos on maybe a white background but im sure you had your limitations. incidentally i saw a dork with legos and a sheet of black paper from my plane going over the sahara but that couldn't have been you right- 13 replies

real quick to keep from seriously minimodding but wishlisting in a leak topic screws up the focus; you're good otherwise! -
you've got no reason to be sorry; i've built basically no lego car in the past, moc or otherwise, and pulled this together in two days in a software i've only recently started building in seriously. certainly smoother tiles and better textures would've helped but from the looks of it it's far from done despite the renders; if the technic activator is any indication i didn't have as good an idea of how to achieve the functionality of the original or of the newer one, and from the sides (and having changed the sides from black to red and vice versa) i couldn't get down the style. to be completely honest most of this was following my disappointment with the new model; i'm sure it's got its positives, least of all being the updated bike, but the choice to remake the (honestly absurdly american) big loud red car with guns as a longer, more boxlike car with less of a memorable profile was a big letdown, and i suppose this moc had as much to do with trying to replicate the original's hood using the substitution present in the thunder raider as much as it was to spite the design team responsible for the new x1 but thanks for the suggestions! i'll see if i can organize the black and red on the side properly, fix the hood somewhat, get rid of the wedge plates on the rear wheel, and streamline the overall model; here's hoping speed champions sets and real-life sports cars can add to the inspiration
-
thought i'd improve it a tad bit. it's roughly the same size and piece count with figs, maybe less or maybe more with the extra bike (as of now it's 552 pieces and more with figs) you'll notice the ugly technic mess is completely removable: this giant contraption fits in here: to do this you might notice the stud launchers; this thing has guns and ofc a back and top-down view to close it out: after my initial disappointment with the released x-1 i realized that a lot of the pieces (namely the hood) had been retired. looking at other legacy sets, i found out that the thunder raider used a replacement for the same piece, and from there i just tested out a couple pieces for the rear and the sides. mecabricks link: https://www.mecabricks.com/en/models/mkjAQYKdjZG stud.io link (technically my first all-stud.io!):https://www.dropbox.com/s/qmictglleveeuez/x1-wip.io?dl=0

to be honest it makes sense: zane's hair naturally pops up because it's basically already stuck up since it's basically metal, and anyways would a headband really add to his look? very weird that only lloyd (and potentially nya) have alt faces, which leads me to believe they're separating a la hunted yet again also interesting to see we've already got a water dragon rumour; it would fit better when the ninja used their elemental dragons more often but if this is anything like boreal in the ice chapter or cole's spinjitzu burst it could be interesting
