  1. It's definitely music, it's definitely what I'm currenly listening to...but I thing the whole thing may have its place in a topic related to amazing mechanical creations...furthermore it uses two programming belts made of lego technic beams and the "programming" is done by putting pin on the technic beams... And here's some insights on how this works / was made :
  2. I don't think the chinese designed this model...they just got the instruction PDF from Lego, re-arranged it a bit and printed it on poor quality paper... As I know the Porsche quite well having assembled 4 of them (and on my way for a fifth and last one) apart from the gear ordering issues, everything work perfectly...adding the step 5 fix helps a bit but is absolutely not necessary. The key is not to rush and double check that pretty much everything runs without much friction at any step...you just should be way more careful when assembling it than when assembling other technic sets... Furthermore, I don't see the point of criticizing the price of the Porsche (or any lego set for that matter)...if you buy sets as soon as they are released, don't expect to get any discount...of the 5 Porsche I got, I paid respectively : 299€ for the first one ordered on S@H (since bought back by the salesman) 269€ at a local toy shop for one of my colleague 212€ at the same local toy shop a month ago 195€ on Amazon two weeks ago including a 20% discount with my premium account 208€ on Amazon last week for a colleague including a 10% discount with my premium account So I don't really see the point of paying 145€ excluding shipping on a bloody knockoff when the real thing is only a few euros more and I would be surprised if Lepin (or whatever they call themselves) would ever be able to match the best deal I got on some genuine sets : BWE : 168€ a few days after its release on Amazon Claas : 95€ a few days ago on Amazon Arocs : 159€ a week ago on Amazon Le Mans racing car (which will be used for parts) : 59€ this week at a local toy shop Crawler Crane (which will be used for parts) : 79€ at a local toy shop next monday ...and the Volvo Front Loader was 155€ a few weeks ago on Amazon.de (but skipped this one as I don't really like it and as I don't need yellow beams or engines / receivers & co) => if you buy smart, you don't need to buy crap On that note, let's ourselves behold the quality of the Lepin Porsche : -- Edit 1 : best deal currently live on the Porsche -- If you really want a Porsche...you can have it from Amazon France right now for 229€...and if you subscribe to the 30 days trial for the Amazon Premium program, you can get a 15% rebate...which would make it a 195€ set https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B01CCT2ZHC?tag=t0ede-21 --- Edit 2 : useful tool to compare price of technic sets --- If you're into technic, mindstorm or starwars lego, you must definitely use this : http://www.techlug.fr/comparateur-lego -- Edit 3 : useful tips for having the best deals at your local toy shop -- I've lended my BWE, my first Porsche and my Claas Xerion to several local toy shops and since having such models on display boosts their sales*...they give me insight and prior access to their best deals...again, it's all about being smart ;-) * the first hour my Porsche was on display, there was a huge wow factor...and I've seen 10 of them go...same for the Claas, but less so for the BWE
  3. @Didumos69 as I've got yet another Porsche to build, I will try to apply Paul's gear sequence fix as well as the step 5 modification...and no I'm not yet able to build the Porsche using my memory alone
  4. I've build the Porsche 4 times : 1 using the community driven errata... ...later rebuild as the ultimate version (late august version) 1 using the standard lego instructions + step 5 fix for one of my colleague who likes the Porsche but wasn't patient enough to build it 1 using the standard lego instructions + step 5 fix for a toy store in my area I found out that : the community driven errata works well, the shiter improvements are nothing short of amazing the ultimate version is absolutely amazing, but I need to update it a little to keep up with Didumos' pace :-) the standard version + step 5 fix works great with some caveats I'll explain below Regarding the standard version, and as not everyone is willing to open a BrickLink account to buy extra parts : you should pay extra attention to the engine block, it should run absolutely freely, and you may have to space out a little the crankshaft, if it is too tight, the engine won't run smoothly on its own, therefore creating extra unwanted friction on the shifting unit, changing the orientation of the two change-over-catch do not help that much...to me, doing so increases the risk of double engagement, thus locking the gearbox completely... regarding gear ordering, you can do what you want...since having 4 gears forward / 4 gears backward is completely unrealistic...actually, it might be on par with the gear ordering of some early cars xD regarding the gear lever / direction selector (the first thing build), everything should run absolutely smoothly, with almost no friction on the gearbox, it is really important to check that the red gears have some space to rotate freely, as they are quite a bit larger than the older grey ones on the rear axle, you should pay extra care on the differential, give each and every gear some space to move, and everything should rotate freely until you set up the shocks absorbers. On a side note, I found way more enjoyable to build the Porsche's box 1 as separate modules (the front axle, the rear axle, the engine, the "engine decorations", ...) as this speed up considerably the assembly of the chassis (instead of having to put it aside to build everything in order)
  5. Amazing build, look forward to sacrifice one of my Porsche to build it (shame that lego will no longer support LDD as well as they did before though)
  6. I will have to either wait for new part to arrive or took apart my Koenigsegg One:1 Furthermore, I'm hesitating between two options : buy a BWE or buy another Porsche (#FirstWorldProblems)...the BWE is outrageous by its sheer size (and factor in the fact that BWE racing IS the new black), but having two Porsche would be nice too...the one that Lego wanted me to have and the one I really wanted to have
  7. For those interested by this set, there's a huge discount on it here : http://www.mytoys.de...er-4641256.html (use the PWMFLDH793HC code - they ship in europe)
  8. I know full well than in a couple of days / weeks / months, the gearbox will not be working properly anymore...I did it just to check if it could be made to work properly once. As it appears, it can (even though it will not last). Next week I will tear box one apart and implement some more of your ultimate version of this model, replace some pins for better color matching, add doorlocks, and make the body removable...as for real cars, the engine / transmission is married to a complete monocoque Oh and you should definitely try using printed parts instead of stickers, it looks soo much nicer...shame these are very expensive...as some Porsche had to die in the process
  9. In the brickset interview, Andy hints at possible color variation on the Porsche...maybe a limited "has it all" Porsche ?
  10. Or maybe I got one of the last bug'ed version...but I couldn't care less, as we all known that a Porsche is nothing more than a squished beetle Furthermore, on the later boxes, the layout of the box is quite different than the orginal and we got a nice reinforcement beam...and when ordered directly from S@H, they've got completely mad with their boxes...I got a 610x420x250mm box containing the box containing the box of the Porsche...itself being full of boxes...
  11. Jangsbricks & FlagsNZ did so and they did not report stall of any sorts...and using one of the trick given by Jangbricks in his video review helps quite a bit. You should never ever lift the chassis until the marriage is complete...and you should test every single gear each and every single step... As far as I'm concerned, I built box one twice : the first time building without that much care (compared to what was to come), the gearbox stalled on a few gears...the second time, I did choose to build box two first, to add rigidity as soon as the chassis completion without having to lift it in any way. Then I built many of the subassemblies of box one (the little cube could be made to spin very (very) freely (I did change the orientation of the two "change over catch" though). And then built the gearbox, testing it almost every single step from the input of the clutch with a large PF motor (and using the back of a very thin blade to space the gears from the beams)...box one took me almost 8 hours to build without ever lifting it...but it rattles nicely on almost every single gear...from time to time the hardest reverse gear makes the cluch click (so mine is not build as properly as Jangsbricks & FlagsNZ one ;))...and of course I implemented your solution to "force" the gears to engage properly. So mine works almost properly but I've made some minor modifications. In the end, this gearbox is definitely waaay too complicated for what it does, they should have gone for a 4+1R or a 3+1R instead of a 4+4R...only tractors do have such gearboxes...maybe that was a hint at the long gone Porsche tractor building past
  12. As this set is kinda hard to make it work properly, "Ultimate" might be used to separate regular sets from particularly hard ones...if your Porsche works properly, you should consider a career in neurochirurgy or apply to any swiss watch manufacturer
  13. Got mine saturday, and I didn't noticed that. I've just checked the instruction and they do look exactly the same as thoses released initially.
  14. Yet, it's the first time ever that every "big" set could apply for this title : the BWE is by far the largest technic set ever and seems to have plenty of interesting constructions techniques the Claas is easily on par with each and every single flagship technic set ever released the Porsche is an amazing base for mods and is an impressive looking model Combined to the fact that none of the 2015 set is being discontinued for now...this year is easily one of the best years for technic fans...we have an amazing tractor, nice cars, a very nice crane, a few heavy machinery, a nice little plane and a big helicopter...if this is a bad year, I definitely more of those "bad years"
  15. The lauchpad operation in itself is quite complex...and the lunar module is also complex...but again, that's the biggest thing I could think of, not the most complex one ;) If you want something really complex, you could try to reproduce a Lockheed SR71 Blackbird...the J58 engines alone are quite complex
  16. I wonder what could be bigger than a BWE...the only thing I could think of is the Saturn's V mobile launchpad complete with a scale replica of the Saturn V rocket (with a nice scale replica of a command & lunar modules)
  17. The bucket wheel excavator does this too but in a waaay cruder way. This one is really neat and is completely hidden (apart from the green light of the battery box) TLG clearly took note on the playability issues linked to their previous way of reversing functions...no more fiddling about with the battery box, hurray
  18. Nice review, as usual, but there's a build error, you forgot two of the front headlights Anyway, for me this is the best & best looking technic set so far (even if the color of the lime parts doesn't quite match)...and my colleagues borrowed mine to play with it quite a bit
  19. Or the Claas, which is more interesting to build & play with :D
  20. This has been done in real life, and it's called a Ferdinand And it has even been tested by TopGear : https://vimeo.com/37808554 -- edit -- Fix broken vimeo link
  21. Didumos69 has made a well documented "Ultimately playable Porsche 911 GT3 RS" with a part list and a Lego Digital Designer file showing all the modifications he made. Apart from that, you need to read this topic and make choices about what you want to build since all mods are not compatibles with each other
  22. We can buy them now for a limited period of time : http://www.steindruc...uckte-teile.php
  23. I did got the LXF file, but not the part list (though bricksafe seems to be down right now). I hope to build this beauty as soon as I can got one...mine is due to arrive on august 8th Thanks again for your amazing job.
