Amazing work still. Do you plan to make a complete guide on how to mod this set to make it ultimately playable ? Furthermore, I think a nice addition should be the locking doors, as this mod seems pretty easy to implement and don't distrub other mods you've already made.

So the instruction manual of the early set is a collector, as it has flaws -

True, but the shifting mechanism do not seem as intricate as in the Porsche, but I haven't seen all the photos of the Porsche -

On Pvdb's Koneigsegg, to make the gearbox work properly, you need to pay extra care on some assemblies...if you don't the gearbox won't work properly...and even with such care, the gearbox commands & linkage do behave differently according to the load put on the model...I did setup the gearbox when the total weight of the assembly was about 500g...everything was working fine...but adding another kilo and a half (if not two) of technic parts and the finely tuned gearbox was not working as smoothly as it once did, thus requiring another extra "gearbox & linkage tuning" session (edit : was thinking of AutoBild journalists as "the novices" though) -

I had that feeling too discussing with one of them (or he was somewhat trolling) -

@steph77 most engineers do have a somewhat high caffeine beverage consumption and there's many (really many things) hugely more complex that gearboxes...for instance, given a fully assembled set designed by a team of designer, try to find out an algorithm to put a technic set together without using any illegal build and taking in account build precedence (hint: using a topological sort at some point might help) (edit: I don't know if such thing do exist for helping MOCers making their instructions manuals) -

For the "coming soon", I do feel some are not familiar with Apple's policy on that matter True, but sometimes novices do pay extra attention to details, especially on such large sets -

@Paul And that's why they're all going to pay a visit to the technic design team (edit : this topic is quite busy today ) -

For the last minute recall, they found out they were making a loss on each copy. The set must be postponed for that reason...why bother with a gearbox as it is an unnecessary feature -

Here's mine (in somewhat dreadful lighting) : The car itself is quite heavy (much more than I expected), and all the concerns about the front suspension are somewhat irrelevant as the front end do sit quite low. The gearbox still need some tuning, as is seems affected by the weight of the model. On the barebone chassis, it was working absolutely fine, but by adding the rest of the car...and you need to lift the front end to make it shift properly (I should re-ajust the gearbox to work when the car is standing on its own wheels). Overall, this is a great MOC, the build experience is somewhat intricate and you sometime need to disassemble some pieces to fit a new one, but nothing that can be achieved with a little method and care. The only drawback I can see is that it might make the Porsche 911 GT3 RS look a tad dull. Thanks again for this amazing MOC- 229 replies

@roppie, you should add customs, and those may not come cheap at all...here in France small boxes are not checked...but bigger ones are almost every single time, and I do think it's the same in Australia. I was once asked to pay up to 70€ for a chinese tube amp costing 150€... @Lipko the model assembled by the non-technic fans at AutoBild seems to work just fine. At the end of their (edit: timelapse) review video, we can hear no wheel locking themselves, no grinding gears...and yet the engine do spin properly. Maybe - just maybe - some of the reviewers were going too fast without paying attention to important details (they might not have been well documented though). As far as I can tell, other paddleshift sequential gearboxes do suffer some issues when not set up properly. I can reproduce the rear wheels locking themselves anytime I want by de-tuning a single gear (eg : mis-align one single axle on the gear selector mechanism) on one of the only supercar MOC equipped with such kind gearbox. (edit : it may prevent the gears to engage properly and is documented by the creator of this MOC though). As we do not have more informations this is pure speculation, and if the gearbox can be made to work properly, this is clearly a bad documentation issue that could have been spotted by TLC. -

@Appie I thought that you had way higher VAT, my bad on that one.... (and the price difference on amazon for 42043 between France and Germany is pretty steep too) -

What if the gearbox do work perfectly but only after being finely tuned ? Should a build process be straightforward or should it require some fine tuning at some point ? -
42056 - Porsche Speculation
charlesw replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@vectormatic true, but you can't compare price including vat between countries, which was the point I was trying to make @Appie to me, as an engineer, I do find way more fun to have something which is open for modification and doesn't work out of the box than having something which is open for modification but do work straight out of the box...needless to say I never was into playmobil when I was a kid -
42056 - Porsche Speculation
charlesw replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@vectormatic you should really compare the price without VAT & other taxes, as some countries have varying VAT and may ou may not add further taxes (luxury, environment, ...)...new cars in Denmark are more than twice as much as in other UE countries...I guess this is the same thing for other goods. Edit : removed unecessary speculations on why the gearbox might not shift properly and its possible fixes -

@Richard : given the fact this set is kinda troublesome, you may find some of them very quickly at that sort of prices or even lower...the gearbox seems to be damn hard to set properly, hence the "ultimate" branding of this set. -

Totally agree, this is an amazing MOC, and yes the gearbox is sort of hard to set up properly...but so is the one found on 42056 (for exactly the same reason, I guess)...Pvdb should definitely apply to TLC- 229 replies

Couldn't agree more. With that much gearing it was expected that this transmission might have some issues on the lower gears as explained by Paul...but not to this point. Still day one purchase for me...after having read both Sariel & Jim's reviews, as Anio tend to be - in my opinion - way too harsh on some reviews. (edit : grammar) -

I assumed this was kept at the Lego theme park in denmark...since it appear to be touring in malls like some ageing singers, it seems unlikely to see this in person ever again (I have seen it in person at the 94' Paris Motorshow).
