Technic 2018 Set Discussion
PicnicBasketSam replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I haven't seen pictures and can wait a little while to get them, but this 2H 2018 lineup sounds amazing, and I'm definitely going to get the forklift and drone bulldozer thing just from the descriptions of them. Also, if we do get another big supercar, I hope it's more impressive than the Porsche... -

The fact that the First Order AT-ST costs the same as the Rogue One AT-ST despite being literally half of the previously existing set- the leg builds are exactly the same, look at them- is absolutely absurd and possibly the dumbest LEGO decision I have ever come across. I saw JANG's review of Defense of Crait, that looks like a great set but it's too expensive by about $15 and it really needs a little display stand for the speeder so the ski can come down. It really does look better with that deployed. -

Three weeks later, the notice is still on the microsite saying it's coming in a few days, the old gallery still exists and stuff is being posted, and LDD has not been updated at all. What gives? -

This same message posted at the top of the thread is on the front page of LDD's own official microsite. It says these changes will be put in place "in a few days." -

There was a Brickset article pointing out new parts in 2018 sets, and among them was what appeared to be 4 2x3x2 slopes in Luke's Hut... I'm a little bit disappointed that they are in fact two older pieces. -

It's only deactivated in Extended Mode or if LDD itself isn't Internet-connected. I upload stuff to the gallery all the time. But this gallery will function totally differently, so they will have to update both program and website. -

Won't they have to actually update LDD for this, for the purpose of rerouting the "send to LEGO.com" button? It stands to reason they would add at least a few new parts with that... -

Having seen Jang's review of the two pull-backs, I'm puzzled as to how that exploding engine feature got past play testing. It works so poorly and does so little, in contrast to something like this from the Racers line it seems quite unspectacular. Also the designs seem quite poor, the huge gaping hole in the front end of Bash! especially. -

THIS is what we get an update from the LDD Development Team after a year?! I do appreciate this news though, so I don't waste a couple days generating instructions for 75192 so I can upload it. -
Disney Movies and TV Shows Discussion
PicnicBasketSam replied to Oky's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Coco opens in the United States today, but I'm not going to see it because of the 23-minute Frozen TV special (with FIVE songs, and mostly focused on Olaf, who I find quite obnoxious) that's packaged before it. Not only am I scared off by that alone, that also means I'm sitting in a theater for two and a half hours for a Pixar movie I'm not actually all that interested in despite the rave reviews, and that's not a time commitment I'm willing to make on a holiday weekend. I'm probably watch it on DVD, unless I can be convinced that Coco's good enough to warrant sitting through that to watch. -

Do we know the piece counts of the four newly revealed sets? I'd like to know approximately how much these will cost. -
LEGO Nexo Knights 2018
PicnicBasketSam replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
The villain sets look great, the color scheme is very striking and they look really evil. Can't wait to get a better look at those. But the hero sets, while a bit better than last year, continue to look spectacularly messy and bizarre... Aaron's plane is a very cool design but it has too many competing colors on it to make sense to me. I'm kind of sad that hasn't been sorted out.- 1,601 replies

I've broken a couple of fingernails trying to pull apart 2x2 plates. This was before they packed brick separators into everything bigger than 600 pieces, though.

This Sandspeeder looks just awful. So many ugly exposed studs, weird color and texture choices, and no new canopy or even new design features aside from the fins. The moisture evaporator looks really bad too, especially around the base... yeah, I don't like this set one bit. The Rey and Kylo Ren Brickheadz are pretty sweet, though. -
I went to a Thursday night screening of Thor Ragnarok, I thought it was great! Also, check out Taika Waititi's other movies, they're all as good as this one.

LEGO Nexo Knights 2018
PicnicBasketSam replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
That picture is so tiny I can't make out anything except the color scheme. That's not a clever way to make people buy your product. I do think it's worth noting that the past few years, they've released about 20 sets for the following year in December of the year prior... releasing one set from each theme a week early does not seem unreasonable, although I can't figure out why they would do that.- 1,601 replies

LEGO Ninjago 2018
PicnicBasketSam replied to Peppermint_M's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
There are some finalized pictures over on The Brick Fan of garmadon, Garmadon, GARMADON! Still can't tell what the interior and functionality of this thing look like, but the outside looks really flippin' cool. Even the hot dog stand is adorable.- 2,384 replies

I'm not knowledgeable about such matters, but would a 2HY 2018 catalog even exist at this point in time?
-
The link provided above to the download page works fine for me... I have noticed that every single time something odd happens with LDD, the entirety of this forum starts whispering, "could this be... an update?" and it puzzles me as to why... the last couple of times LDD has been updated it has been completely without warning.... didn't they used to actually announce these things ahead of time?

LEGO Star Wars 2017 Pictures and Rumors
PicnicBasketSam replied to Stash2Sixx's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Han in carbonite is the only one of these things I find remotely clever, and of course it's unavailable to 99.7% of the people who like it. This steps squarely into "stupid business decisions" territory if they don't release something similar to the public- we are going to get Star Wars Brickheadz next year, so there is a chance, but it's still ridiculous that there are more exclusive BrickHeadz sets now than those available as normal retail sets. -

What was the last movie you watched?
PicnicBasketSam replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
With school, and binging various TV shows on Amazon Prime, I haven't watched a whole lot in the past 2 and a half months, but here's what I did see for the first time... Beauty and the Beast (2017). Couldn't stand this, honestly, it's a dramatically inferior and stupidly longer version of the first one. Dunkirk. Outstanding, one of my favorites of the year thus far. Logan Lucky, a little movie Steven Soderbergh came out with last month... it's a heist movie, described in the film itself as "Ocean's 7/11" but the best reason to watch it is Daniel Craig's performance as a demolition man named Joe Bang. It's really very funny. The Fate of the Furious, same old amusing garbage that series always is A Monster Calls, really emotional movie about a boy coming to terms with the fact that his mother is about to die of cancer. Featuring Liam Neeson as a tree and some truly breathtaking animated sequences. It's amazing, but requires ice cream after watching. Passengers, which works better as an exercise in finding ways that same story could have been told way better than as an actual movie to watch. The BFG: the worst Spielberg movie I've ever seen, I thought it was unremarkable and frequently boring with shoddy visual effects. Winter's Tale is an enchantingly terrible movie by the screenwriter of Batman and Robin. Great fun to watch with some friends and stare in awe as to how strange the story is and how silly Russell Crowe's Irish accent is. The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl is straight garbage I watched with a 7-year old, it's not without merit on a "so bad it's good" basis though. Titan AE is a mediocre animated sci-fi movie I've honestly forgotten about even a month after seeing it Space Jam is also terrible, I'm not a 90's kid so I have no nostalgia for it and my God has it aged terribly. Blade Runner: The Director's Cut just in time for the sequel. Excellent cyberpunk sci-fi, maybe the first big movie of that particular sub-genre. I'd really highly recommend watching Dunkirk, Blade Runner, and A Monster Calls. -
I wish this had a bit more depth, and that's really my only quibble with it... it's an incredible model but it's only one small room thick, and I'm really not sure that's enough. I think it would be more imposing and visually interesting if the side bits were swiveled back and the roller coaster was made more three-dimensional. Also, seeing as they threw in the end credits versions of the main cast, it seems like they could have threw in Gladys from the Phantom Zone... I think she's the only voiced character aside from King Kong, the Kraken, the Eye of Sauron (question mark? I didn't pay attention to the LoTR sets) and Agent Smith not to have an appearance in any set. As-is, though, this is really cool, and I did not anticipate that they would ever do something like this. All of the brick-built details rival the puffer fish and squid in Ninjago City, but they're much more varied and prominent here

I like these sets alright, but I like these molded heads even less than the ones on the dragons. :/
