The best of the worst Lego Ideas
PicnicBasketSam replied to anothergol's topic in General LEGO Discussion
This is a bad build, but the description makes me think troll: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/149376 -
Presently building this summer's Friends wave. I need a bit of help with custom pieces for other things, though... I've made brick-built pneumatic cylinders and pumps for the Volvo, but I need the Claas tractor's wheel attachment pieces and the two new parts from the BWE. Oh, and this: http://brickset.com/parts/design-22390

Wow. That's a new low for the fanbase of anything, but especially these movies. Kind of sad that Man of Steel is still the best of the bunch, and that was merely an OK movie IMO. I rewatched BvS yesterday, and it was only slightly less terrible than it was in theaters. I really don't see how people liked it...

Did you change out Bucky's face? I can't tell. Impressive collection, I count figures from 11 different sets there. -
DC Superheroes 2017 - Set Discussion
PicnicBasketSam replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
Oh, my little sister is going to love this... she's a big fan of superhero stuff, and here's a line of sets that have a whole bunch of female characters that aren't minidolls! I don't know anyone IRL who actually does like them. And if they're good sets on their own, I might pick up a few. I want a normal comic Wonder Woman... I missed the Lex Mech set from 2012, and she's only appeared in expensive sets which I don't want since then.- 3,020 replies

Lego Ninjago 2016
PicnicBasketSam replied to LegendsOfNinjago's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
Structural deficiencies... wait, that reminds me of something... oh, yeah. Wasn't one of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sets briefly pulled from shelves because it kept falling apart? I think it was The Shellraiser Street Chase, but I'm not completely sure. -
Ghostbusters 2016 Reboot discussion
PicnicBasketSam replied to Kaanere's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Um. Captain Pirate Man? I'm not sure if you know this, but there have been other people in the Batsuit (see: Batman Beyond) and other people as Spider-Man (Miles Morales most immediately springs to mind, but there are others) and there was not a huge outcry then. Your logic has failed. You are saying "If other people are in the Ghostbusters story, it's not Ghostbusters, and you are not a fan of Ghostbusters if you like the new Ghostbusters. Never mind if you enjoyed the originals or not, nope, you're not a fan." This is like saying "If somebody else is Batman or Spider-Man, it's not Batman or Spider-Man, and you're not a fan of either of them if you like the new versions." But this is simply not true. Other franchises have done the exact same thing as Ghostbusters without huge outcry--excepting Lady Thor--and nobody gave a damn. This "If we had Joe Blow and Bobby noname instead of Bruce Wayne and Peter Parker people would be mad about it." isn't true. That actually happened. Backlash was minimal.- 248 replies

Lyichir, mind if I put your post over on the LEGO Message Boards? There's a ton of whining about this over there. I basically quit because the cancellation of the other two games dialed it to 11.

Nexo Knights 2016
PicnicBasketSam replied to BrickJagger's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
How did all of these sketch models get replaced with increasingly worse versions of themselves? Those look awesome! Can I see a prototype for Macy's Thunder Mace? I get the feeling that set got hit by the Budget Brigade. -

I recently realized that I haven't actually seen Mission: Impossible II. So, having enjoyed all the other movies, I tracked it down and watched it... wow. Don't. It's a bat-megabloks ridiculous Bond ripoff that's one part boring and one part more over-the-top than anything Michael Bay ever made. -

Star Trek Beyond. Far and away the best of the Kelvin-timeline films. The Yorktown was one of the coolest things in any Trek movie, ever. -
Why end it now? There are plenty more things they could do, and plenty of kids who would buy them.

The LEGO Batman Movie Set/CMF Rumors & Discussion
PicnicBasketSam replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
The last set with Mr. Freeze was a free polybag. The actual set before that was $20 in 2013, another one that was $10 in 2008, and one in the 2006 Batcave ($100). In the past 10 years, Freeze has ONLY come in cheap sets. Why is everybody so happy about him being in a cheap set? -
If Bionicle G2 continued into 2017
PicnicBasketSam replied to Takanuinuva's topic in LEGO Action Figures
Sounds like a good story idea. Perhaps we should commission some of our resident revamp-ers to make concept models...? -
I remember seeing a TV ad for the webisodes back in very late 2014 in a hotel... long story... but I haven't seen much in the way of advertising since. My local Target didn't get very many of the winter sets, by the time I finally got there in March they had no Creatures or smaller Toa. I came back in April to buy Super Hero Airport Battle, and the same big sets were on the shelves that were there when I had went a month earlier. All through 2015 Target, and even Shopko (which has a notoriously limited LEGO selection in my town) had a bunch of the sets... ah well. I get the feeling much of the audience went, "Ooh! Star Wars action figures!" or "Ooh! Ninjago and/or Nexo Knights!" when 2016 rolled around. And now I have no opportunity to buy the summer wave, because there's no Toys R U or LEGO Store within at least 100 miles from me. The closest LEGO store to me is 500 miles away. And they're probably sold out online... not worth the fuss, with all the other stuff that I can still get. I personally called it quits on Bionicle when reviews rolled in of the summer wave, and it became clear that none of the sets were any good. I'm going to just catch up on some of the other terrific summer sets (Technic, Marvel, et cetera) and not worry about this too much.

Wow. It's like they don't know how to end Bionicle with anything other than a whimper. So does this mean we'll have a new constraction theme next year? I can't imagine Star Wars being the only thing...

Least Accurate Licensed Character Representations
PicnicBasketSam replied to BaneShake's topic in LEGO Licensed
Sometimes I wonder if Disney is meddling in the set design with those. Because to be honest, I get the impression the DP designers haven't actually watched the movies they are making sets for. -
I recall that JKBrickworks did a bus that followed a magnetic strip taped to the bottom of a baseplate, but I can't remember what he used to power the thing. Anybody know?

Nexo Knights 2016
PicnicBasketSam replied to BrickJagger's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I just watched Jang's review of The Black Knight Mech. For the most part, I like it... but there's so very few posing options available. If I got it I would modify the megabloks out of it... I mean, it's otherwise fantastic, but I demand that all my LEGO mechs be able to pull off a dynamic pose. The artificial limits imposed on the ankles and arms are just befuddling. -
Ghostbusters 2016 Reboot discussion
PicnicBasketSam replied to Kaanere's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Yeah, I do see your point... there don't seem to be a lot of truly original movies these days. Endless adaptations, sequels, prequels, remakes, and reboots, many of which no-one asked for. According to Wikipedia, only 2 of this year's top 10 highest-grossing movies are original: Zootopia and the Chinese movie "The Mermaid". 2015 had 1 original movie in that list: Inside Out. 2014: Interstellar. 2013: Gravity. 2012: NOTHING. This has been happening for quite some time.- 248 replies

Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them Film Discussion
PicnicBasketSam replied to Robert8's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I have read the books. Twice. I didn't know that they cut a couple of things... sorry... my bad. I wasn't a huge fan of the grimness of the last book, although I did enjoy it... those 2 movies tried to be much more book-accurate, and they have their moments, but I didn't think they worked as movies. Not least because half of the plot doesn't make any sense if you only focus on the movies--they cut so much stuff out, the plot threads weren't there to be picked up by an adaptation that disregards all 4 middle movies in favor of the book. I did read Deathly Hallows before watching it, and splitting it in half was a bad call. 5 hours of a 700 page book means over an hour of camping and a whole lot of a final battle that takes place at night, and focuses too little on the actual battle, right down to 5 minutes of flashbacks in the middle of it. Not to mention far too much of that breaking-into-the-bank sequence. I say it's OK when taken as just an adaptation of the book, but it does a really, really bad job of ending a series of movies. -
LEGO Star Wars 2017 Pictures and Rumors
PicnicBasketSam replied to Stash2Sixx's topic in LEGO Star Wars
What, another Desert Skiff?! I missed that. If it's good, I'll buy it... they'd better make it interesting, though, because making Boba Fett the sole draw will result in another Carbon-Freezing Chamber, and that set is just too meh for me to buy for 1 minifig.
