Thank you for speaking your mind. And you are right, I do not voice my appreciation enough for the work done by all the people who run bobs Don't forget it is also human nature to first or only see the downsides of change. and typing it in a forum (as well as everywhere else on the internet) is a far too easy way of expressing negativity. Not that I want to use that as an excuse. as I'm just as guilty as anyone else in portraying the negative more then the positive. So my sincere apologies for my part in that. - Blackflags are upkeep free, I didn't knew that. -

you'd still need landbased yield to afford the upkeep -
Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Bart replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Bregir The problem for wanting piracy is, that you as an aspiring pirate, need money to build ships, and quit some money to build anything decent lets say class 6. therefore searats invested in landbased properties. Then you grow attached to such landbased property, so you protect it with a fort to protect it against retaliations from navies whom are not going to like you pirating on them. So now you go pirating, and that wasn't too succesfull in the past and even let to backfires to non pirate searats on top of that, in the three other factions players stuck around since the start, in the searats people came and went, and no single player was a mass producer of anything, as to give him or the faction a financial base to grow upon. So now you intend to take moneys from the big players, okay I understand, but the means, hit the searats the same. so now they are back, at needing to build land based property to get a yield to pay for upkeeps, and still cannot go pirating because they cant afford the ships to do so. *I'm here since the start and've only build 2! although that is more due to my inaccable to real brick and my desire to build true to history perfection but also the idea I never had the cash to license and support a ship let alone a fleet. yeah we decided to play paintball :P lol Depending on the results it might lead to an increase in raids or another postpone of active piracy in the brick seas if the resulte is pirating needs bigger ships even. -

To make my points more clear, I approve of removing the free moneys to townbank and mayor pay. and don't think that should be compensated by another form, (unless it is tied to trade value and ships visits in the tmcra) But the consequences seem to be a bit harsh on some players. not only searats. And me starting that discussion, was more intended to warn people about it, then to make the Court change its mind about the rule changes. so that people can take steps to compensate. -

Poppy Port cracks out a 90db/month while being the smallest settlement ;) 4/5 times a year is an issue tho. I thought of it as monthly, as in MonthlyCRA that would indicate atleast a minimum of 10 times a year, because we are all humans and maybe miss out on the one during christmas or when everybody is somehow at the same time on summer holidays. This is not a problem for me. there is also no endgame or way of winning in everyday live. The games you can win are the minor and major challenges, the sea battles with pirates adventurous ship owners. and now for corries at least you can get titles, to name a recent thing. -

still baffled I'm apparently the only one who consciously made the my settlement financially independent. raiding has until now been a very limited and scary event. it's actually funny people are worried about the cost of raiding, as under the current rules, no settlement has been raided. The risk of loosing your ship and retaliation on your other ship(s) and fellow searats has put people off I dare to say. and on those who are now faced with high settlement costs, but have a decent personal income, you may want to look into changing owner ship of some of your builds in that settlement. saves you the trouble of transering doubloons all the time. -

Bart replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
To me that is a bit huh? Because it is very easy to license something in the settlements name, and have them get the full yield. and if the settlement is yielding more then upkeeping and you as the owner (mayor) need that doubloons for something, you can just transfer the surplus to your own account. Well that is the risk in starting your own settlement, and for me the fun. You could try to cover the cost with taxes :) It also brings a lot of prestige. For the ships, you had to pay that anyway if they where settlement or personally owned, so those cost didnt' change. Why didn't you invest in settelement owned properties to generate income before then? now you basically created your own money sink. *Poppy Port will stay tax free, just saying* -

are you sure? Acropolis, Jan van Sud, The Dragon and, Zubilus von Wreck are all in the negative at the moment, and I've seen several others in the negative before. *when you make the factions pay this negative balance, the players won't feel the settlement they own is raided. it's like paying it for them. if it is old, then I suggest to update the By Land page as soon as possible. -

Maxim has a point, I never realised most settlements aren't self supporting financially. I did make Poppy Port have a nice yield of 90db/mcra to self support. but apparantly i'm one of the very few who did that. So other Mayors deposite doubloons in their settlement account each turn to pay for troops/fortresses ? I agree with Flavius tho, raid prize should come out of settlement accounts, but not based on settlement account, based on Trade value would be a good alternative. if there is no doubloon in a settlement account, the account sheet should just show negative, and then it is up to the player (mayor) to deposite enough doubloons again to pay for the next round of troop en fortress costs. *there was a rule btw you werent aloud to spend more then 50% of what was in the treasure chest of a settlement. -

You could build a very nice house, with gardens and out houses and stables and support buildings and such. (for example) That would qualify too if you ask me. -

Thanks for the explenation on the BoC, I might need to start an amcra to rob the place I understand that you want to take the raid from the faction account, but I am of the opinion that that is putting it further away from the feelings of the mayors, in other words, closer to the 'out of thin air' feeling to the mayors. Side question, the raid price was set at 50% of the town bank/settlement account. I can now start a settlement without licening anything in their name, so the account stays 0, so a raid would earn nothing, and cost a faction nothing. so how are you going to set the raid price now? 50% of trade value? No need to take it back behind the shrouds to court. Our searat representative @Professor Thaum is a very good pirate, but he cannot know and over see everything every time, so that is maybe why he hadn't put it up. I noticed it now, so I point it out here. Not saying I oppose these changes! -

@Bregir I didn't intent to say that the whole Raid thing was removed. Just the part where it was previously paid out of the settlement account/town bank, not out of thin air. Yeah sure the rat's will up their faction yield. 5 active players will somehow build enough of medium/large builds to up it with 360db/turn just to pay for fortresses, no worries. The one basic principle of the SeaRats is not having taxes. No I didn't ask you personally, I asked in public, and some people replied, I took a loan if you want to know, which I'm paying back. Speaking of money out of thin air the bank of Corrington is minting a 1000 doubloons monthly, which nobody is using, or at least I'ven't seen any transactions happening in the account sheets. nor did I ever found the builds that would explain this yield. But now I'm pulling up old stories of a time I wasn't here into current afairs, so I might be very wrong. -

On Royals nr: 2 This sucks, to say it blunt, a 100db/turn reward for something that costs 3000 db . then it will take 2,5 years before you are going to get any profit from it! It's already hard for players to find the cash to license it anyway, and now there is no reward into building it. On royals nr. 4 Sounds fair, but with the enormous cost of a royal you basically halted settlement growth this way, ( yes it will grow but not level up) 1&3 I've been contacted indeed, for those curious the Basilica of the Faith will change ownership to the faction. And okay, 5 or 10 points I don't see a big difference. On forts and troops This will result in the Searats being bankrupt before next Christmas, The Faction doesn't have much yield of it's own, 150db/turn I believe it is. so if you are going to charge 2x200db's for a fortress every month, that is going to bleed us dry. on the Others 1. okay, I can see why, 2. Fair enough. 3. uh? so where does the yield for properties owned by a settlement go? For instance, in Poppy Port all most all the builds I did I licensed by Poppy Port, because that way if I where to ever transfer the ownership of the town to another player/TC/faction for some reason or another, they have the means to maintain it, and that yield isn't lost in my inactive account. Raids out of the faction pocket? see my point about the Searats above. So by taking away mayor pay and removing the automatic income of the town bank you have removed all the benefits of owning a settlement, and by removing the raid part you have removed all the risk aswell. So what is the point and fun in starting a town then? It would be more interesting if a town where to get money based on the trade that has happend that turn, like it gets 1% of all the trade done in that town, and that then pays for upkeep costs, projects and raid. That will push the nr of builds in that town to increase tradevalue and attract more shipping. 4 so a sisstership is now more expansive then a new one? -

Typical Eslandonian to invest in pikes and equip their soldiers with ketels for hats But the fortress background is on point! -

More troops! That brick for the drum is very smart! I might take inspiration from that but 41st regiment? how many corries with guns are there? I almost feel worried. -
A very fine example of a Brigantine, I think it's always nice to see other sail carrying types in Bobs (other then the usual ship rig) The sunset picture is really nicely done.

Distilling is illigal because if you do it wrong you get the wrong kind of alcohol the one that gets you blind and dead and such things. Brewing and wine making cant go wrong that way. So there is more then Just a tax reason. Unfortunatly smuggling has become very difficult (not impossible) for merchant sailors.

Nice fort, although its a while (maybe even a decade) since I've seen the Count of Monte Christo, but I can see the resemblance. nice detail of the track for the gun. But booze on watch?
