  1. That's the spirit! We have plenty of weird people in America, it doesn't help. I will agree that it seems more accepted there, but with as many action figure fans as there are here, it's getting very typical to see adults buying toys for themselves now.
  2. Could you please document that study? It would be fascinating to see, since they rarely release that kind of information. I'm much more likely to believe that they watched their customer base and it was primarily male. You cater to whoever buys your product, and part of that is driven by society and out of their control completely. No company would ignore a potential market if that market existed. No one considered the adult market to have that much potential back then, and that's what it took to get the modular line. Didn't matter the sex, only the age being considered. They did all through the 80's. Where were you? You missed some great sets! Houses with couples who didn't need to be rescued, but who drove their little cars around in the peaceful world of LEGOLAND. Trains were never conflict based. Even Fabuland was a girl-friendly theme, if you want to call it that, and it had cute animals and was still basically a system line. Castle has currently found a large female fanbase, despite not being the least bit more female oriented than it ever was. Then the 90's brought Paradisa, which was far from the weird doll world of Scala or Belville. It still didn't sell well enough to maintain, so it disappeared, now people want those sets. It's hard to blame LEGO for backing off, though. Get girls and their parents to think differently, and you'll find that the current lines have plenty to offer everyone and LEGO would happily add new things to cater to an expanded market. Can't argue with that, but hopefully cows will be the first step to a new animal kingdom for LEGO, one that boys have wanted as well. If you feel funny as a girl wanting LEGO, you're going to hate being an adult wanting LEGO. Best to get over it now before it drives you out of the LEGO world. Sadly, it does, it says that the focus is still in the wrong area. As long as the distinction is being made, we're still taking two steps back. I much prefer to see female fans who simply build and don't have to make a point out of it, they just participate. Otherwise, it'll always be, "well, she can build pretty well... for a girl." Fortunately, based on the increasing numbers of female fans on this site and at events, it's changing from the bottom up, just as it should. That's how the day will come when no one bothers making a distinction at all, because it doesn't matter.
  3. Works for me! Seriously, you could have sold me with that on it's own. If you'll stick to that, I'll try to get you a nice place for ice trays and egg timers. Seriously though, I don't see Adventurers as historical for the same reason you don't see Time Cruisers that way, they visited modern (for their period) ruins of historical places like tourists. I'd really like to reserve historical themes for things primarily centered around real historical periods when they happened. If they ever made Romans, no question where it would go. If Johnny Thunder visited Roman ruins, it wouldn't be the same. Yes, Castle, Ninja and Viking all include mythological and fantasy influences, but typically not as their main focus, instead they serve as an element of conflict so kids have something to fight. Pretty much all Castle lines since the 90's have been this way, but they've still always been centered around at least one major human faction in a castle. For Adventurers, the main focus was on the team that never did any real archaeology and more or less played tourist through ruins of historical periods, a non-historical period, and dinosaurs. I really want to draw this line and be done with it before it sucks in other areas.
  4. That's perfect, because honestly, anything 20th century or beyond can't be counted as historical or we'd have to include WWII, the moon landing sets, the architecture series, the latest firehouse, the Emerald Express and a lot of other things that don't belong. Heck, Star Wars (I know that's one of your favourites ) was set "A long time ago...", so lets move it to Historical too. Be active in it, build some things and share them, I know we'd love to see it. Right now, it's actually on the first page of Action where it has a chance of being seen. It's dead buried under 200 tons of Castle in Historical.
  5. Pinky is my friend. Yeah. I guess. Well, you're not his friend, he's crazy. I'm not sure why that would stop me, it hasn't so far. Shut up. You know, Hinck loves it when his threads are full of personality. Oh, we've got that covered.
  6. Very nice review, thanks for posting it! I picked up this set when they were clearing out the theme, along with the elephant one, which was all they had left at that point. I wish I could have bought a lot more of both sets (and all the others). Jun-Chi makes a nice statue when done in pairs flanking an opening, like the archway in this set. Beyond that, he isn't overly useful. The set itself isn't exciting when taken as is, but it has a lot of great ideas that could go on to greater use, and some nice parts like the red pillars and flags. Honestly, I didn't really see it as a particularly archaeological set, Johnny isn't in a tomb, he literally could be in downtown Beijing based on the generic styling of the architecture, but for me that's just fine. I never looked at the Orient sets for that, since they are without a specific time period (unlike the Egyptian sets, which are still modern day, but in ruins of the past). I really wish the theme had sold better, but it just wasn't what kids wanted, I guess.
  7. I'm sorry, this isn't really a Star Wars post, so it doesn't belong here, I'll just move it to town... well, I would if I could figure out what the hell it is. Maybe it should be in Sci-Fi, it's eerily Block Blockian. I do want a pink scooter and beret though.
  8. We currently have: Al Iztad: 4 votes Eddie Flak: 1 vote That isn't going to get the job done, folks. Let's get cracking, you're at a critical point here.
  9. Everyone is in charge of every forum. Whether or not there will be a specific person devoted to it remains to be seen.
  10. I have to say I completely disagree with lumping Adventurers into history, and I'll explain why. It's not historical. Visiting sites from the past isn't the same as being part of it. Historical Themes is about the cultures that made up those time periods and nothing else. Knights, Ninjas, Vikings, Cowboys and Natives and Soldiers. It's also potentially about Romans and any other real historic group living their lives in that period, not the present day. Pirates would be there if it wasn't a seperate forum. Johnny Thunder is about modern archaeology that drifts into the bizarre with dinosaurs, but even in it's historical modes is never really about the people from the past, it's about a set group of characters who are fighting each other, with the occasional local getting involved in the fight. Cars, trucks, planes, dynamite. It's the Archaeology equivalent of Agents and a perfect fit in Action. Orient Expedition isn't even historical. It featured buildings that are still being built to this day and some fantasy based creatures. I don't get where anyone is coming from with that one. Taken a step further, a number of Adventurers sets were part of Studios. You know, the same group that brought you Spiderman, Jurassic Park, Frankenstein and Stuntmen doing tricks. Not historical. To be blunt, Adventurers has as much historical purpose as Time Cruisers, but at least it traveled to the past instead of ruins of the past. I doubt anyone wants that in history, and Adventurers doesn't belong either. It would be like putting Indiana Jones in History. Modern action in a historic setting isn't historic, it's action, and we all know that Johnny Thunder was copied from ... modeled after ... inspired by Indy. Basically, no matter where it goes, unless people start posting things, it's going to be buried under the newer, more active themes. In history it was always buried under Castle, in action it'll be under Power Miners and Agents, but with thousands fewer posts, at least it will be easy to find. I don't think we made the intent of historical themes clear enough, thus the confusion, but I hope that makes it more obvious. I know it's perfectly clear for me, but ultimately, we try to listen to the community and do what is best, I just don't see burying Adventurers in a forum it doesn't belong in as a good plan, but if you do... So obviously this is still being discussed and decided. Comments?
  11. Nope, it predates that. I haven't had my revenge yet.
  12. I suppose that makes it wrong that I laughed. Hard. Or maybe just pull over first! Oh crap, that was wrong too. I'm sorry, Emperor clauduis rome... Might we properly capitalize and fix the spelling on your name? Say to Emperor Claudius Rome?
  13. You think of Other Themes like I do, which is one reason for these changes, to save some themes from it. I don't know where the new games will go, it seems silly to break them up by theme... we'll figure something out. Do you have any ideas? All the mods are being made admins, right after the mutiny, I hear.
  14. Still "Other Themes" as there has never been an official real military theme, despite several themes offering small numbers of military figures.
  15. Power Miners will firmly plant their awesome drills in your ... All right, you've earned a clue for making me laugh, but then you aren't allowed to guess anymore, so this is it... The new forum will be dedicated to creative pursuits. Yes, I know, that could mean just about anything on a site about a building toy, but that's all the clue you get.
  16. Indy is firmly planted in Licensed, so stop eyeing his fedora. No, that was not a clue.
  17. This thread will act as a catalog of new sets for this year. It will remain locked but you can subscribe to it so that when new pics are added, the board software will e-mail you. 19. WOOWEE! Have fun! Oh, and don't LOL or we'll have to banz0rz j00! Remember, a kick in the megablocks for each of them.
  20. Did you read the original post at all, or just look at the pretty pictures?
  21. ... as a freight train!
  22. There will eventually be new banners for a lot of the forums, as well as at least one pinned thread somewhere indicating where things should go in the future. It's likely that such an index will appear seperately in each forum in it's normal MOC index or a discussion thread as well. Agents will be in the new LEGO Adventures Forum, by the way.
  23. I hope they're looking for huge X's or crop circles or hidden pyramids or a bus station.
  24. Other Themes is everything that doesn't fit somewhere else. That's something that can be discussed in this thread. At this point, it's Fabuland, Belville, Scala, non-system Racers, mosaics, modern military (1900-present), plus an endless supply of odds and ends.
