Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion
AnnaBuildsLego replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
This series is CRAZY in-demand. The stock in my nearby Tesco apparently sold out May 2nd. Meanwhile, the nearest Art N Hobby has a pretty large stock (3 boxes, last time I checked) but it's running through them fast. I asked the shopkeeper about it, and he said that they're probably the most popular series of minifigures that they've had, and it's only May 9th. LEGO are probably going to have to send out more of these!- 4,155 replies

Ah, that glorious Hot Dog Van! That's definitely going to be my first-ever Friends set. Looking forward to someone grabbing these for a review! I'm honestly very impressed that the Friends theme has managed to win me over with a set. I have always disliked those mini-dolls (this much hasn't changed, and I will likely sell off the ones from the Hot Dog Van) and I have a strong dislike for the way the theme could be abused to enforce gender roles - I have some pretty strong memories of being a little girl perusing the LEGO section and being advised by shop assistants to buy Clickit's rather than normal LEGO, because ordinary LEGO was by default labelled "Boy's Toys." This was mostly not LEGO's fault however, since it was the individual shop itself that stuck the gendered labels on the sets. Still, it's surprising to me (and to Friends' credit) that I've come around a bit to the theme and it's usefulness for City.

Minifigure scale is kind of wonky too, though. I just built the Modular Pet Shop, and it was rather glaring that the cat and the mouse that are given to you are both the same size - actually, the mouse might actually be bigger. I don't think the scale of Friends animals would be an issue - they'd just need a reprint with System eyes and they should be fine to be included with CMFs.

Finally got my first of the set today at Art N Hobby! Feeling skills were on point again, managed to feel out my priority figure from this series, Stitch! So happy with him, he's utterly adorable and a very accurate representation of a character I love! Good job, LEGO! I'm stuck on a pretty strict college budget, so I'm going to be buying one per week - hopefully I'll have enough time to collect the whole series! Next mission: Find Aladdin and the Genie... I found that this series was much harder to feel than I was expecting. It took a long time to find Stitch, although that may be because he seemed to be the last Stitch left in the box.- 4,155 replies

No problem, of course! Definitely do, I feel like this series is a massive hit already and they're gonna fly off the shelves once they appear! I really need to get my hands on these, it's stressing me out. Wow! There really are so many stories of shops clearing out of these extremely fast. Could this turn out to be the most popular CMF series yet? I personally think it probably will, given that it combines LEGO and Disney, and that's just gigantic!- 4,155 replies

Update on the Tesco Ireland/UK sitch, I visited again today, and while they still don't have any in stock, they DO have a sticker on the shelf listing "LEGO Disney MF - Currently Out of Stock." So either they did get a box in and someone bought the whole box (unlikely, Ireland's FOL community isn't that intense as far as I've encountered) or they have some almost ready to go out on shelves.- 4,155 replies

Get the Pet Shop. It gives you two buildings for the price of one, plus it's the only Modular that's almost entirely reserved for residential purposes, which is really welcome IMO. You get two beautiful buildings to kit out and make a home for your minifigs. Pet Shop will be gone soon and it will get marked up significantly on the aftermarket, so if you ever change your mind, you'll probably never be able to get it again. I bought it recently after a change of heart (I originally too thought I could skip it, so I bought the Palace Cinema instead) and now I love it. I think if you ever think you'll want a bit of residential stuff in your street, then you can't really skip Pet Shop. Parisian Restaurant is amazing, though. I personally would recommend that you collect the Modulars in back-order as I am doing (getting the oldest ones first) to ensure that you can get all the ones available before they get discontinued and bumped to ridiculous prices on the aftermarket. Personally, I would recommend that you buy the Pet Shop and wait until a birthday or Christmas (if you celebrate it) to get the Parisian, because although the Parisian is the superior set, it will likely be available for longer, and the Pet Shop - another gorgeous set- is on it's final legs. However: If you really, really feel like the Pet Shop is no good to you, the Parisian is a beautiful, beautiful set.

Third 2015 LEGO Ideas Review - Guessing Game

I think it'll either be the Beatles Submarine or none of them at all. The Submarine hits all the right notes I think: it's colourful, iconic/recognisable, has minifigures, and is reasonably sized. The only thing in its way is licensing! -

Didn't find any in my Tesco, they didn't even have any Series 15 left. Looks like Tesco in Ireland/UK are a bit behind. If you have the 'Art N Hobby' chain of shops in the UK though, they apparently have them in stock! NO! Ugh, what a bummer... Aw, that's such bad news, I loved that promotion for Series 15! Yeah, I wouldn't normally buy from Tesco - the only reason I was looking is that it's close to where I'm studying, and I need to get an assignment done for tomorrow and thought I'd pick up a blind bag to motivate me to get it done. I'm still gonna try to get these at Art N Hobby, but this is such a disappointment. That loyalty card promotion was great.- 4,155 replies

Fellow Irish fans - apparently Art N Hobby shops are now stocking the Disney minifigures, as they sent me an email announcing that they are now in stock! Also going to check the local Tesco today, here's hoping I can grab my first one, preferably Stitch!- 4,155 replies

I feel like a Centaur would be possible (it's a glaring omission in the series of mythical creatures they've been making) but it would need a new horse-body mould that is much downsized from the LEGO horses we're used to. I feel like a Centaur mould that was the size of a regular horse wouldn't be balanced price-wise with the other figures in a CMF series. Shetland pony Centaurs, anyone?

Going with the general rule we've seen of having two characters per movie (with some exceptions that only have one, e.g. Stitch), I would love: Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde from Zootopia (Judy comes with a parking ticket and her carrot pen, Nick comes with maybe a specialised suitcase and the treats he was selling in the movie, or he could come with the little Fennec fox). Jafar from Aladdin, with snake sceptre. Jasmine from Aladdin, with magic carpet (considering that her tiger probably wouldn't fit in the blind bag!) Winnie the Pooh, with honey pot, of course! Tigger! Maybe with a spring-loaded tail? Rapunzel from Tangled, with a lantern. Flynn from Tangled, with his Wanted sign. Mulan, with sword and mini Mushu. This is probably my most wanted one, because I love Mulan! Robin Hood Mowgli and Baloo from The Jungle Book. Maybe Mowgli comes with an actual 'Jungle Book' and Baloo comes with a beehive. Belle, Beast, and Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. Belle comes with a book, Beast comes with his rose, and Gaston comes with a mirror. I know that in the first series we only got two from each movie, but here's hoping. Hercules with sword and shield, Hades with switchable calm and angry faces/hair. Frozone from The Incredibles, maybe with a bowling alley ticket and/or an ice piece for him to glide on.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
AnnaBuildsLego replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
On the subject of how well/poorly the Monsters series did, I've just checked the website of a massive chain shop here in Ireland and they seem to have large remaining quantities of Monsters, and have marked down the price on them to only €2 each, which is a crazy deal. Minifigures here tend to be €3 and can push €4 if the series is popular enough. I've seen boxes and boxes of the figures in toy shops, nearly all of which were completely full and practically untouched. I wonder if the arrival of the Disney series will finally push the Monsters series away, but I actually think they might linger around for a while. The fact that the Monsters series came out in October 2015 and still are around in full boxes here in May 2016, despite being significantly price-chopped, isn't a great sign for any who want specifically themed minifig series'. (This all being said: The shop also still has a reasonably large amount of Series 12 minifigs for sale, but not marked down from their original price) -

Thanks a mil! I figured Stitch would be pretty easy to feel for considering the big ears, but it's nice to get confirmation of that (I haven't been to any shops since May began, so I haven't encountered these little guys yet)! It's good to hear also that the others are easy enough to pick out, too. Thanks for the help! I will be making the trek to the nearest shop tomorrow to see if any of the Disney figures have landed in Ireland yet. I don't know if I'm going to buy any, considering I'm already spoiled this week with a Pet Shop waiting for me, but if I find a Stitch I'd be hard-pressed not to buy him.- 4,155 replies

How hard were Stitch, Aladdin, Genie and Peter Pan to feel for? Those are the ones I really want to find, so if you have any tips about how to feel them out it'd be tremendously appreciated. Here in Ireland they are up on the site and available, I'm assuming this is true of the UK also!- 4,155 replies

Why to we feel the need to modify?
AnnaBuildsLego replied to __________________________'s topic in Community
Hey LegoExpert! That's awesome, it's always great to meet fellow autistic LEGO fans! No offense taken, don't see why it would be! I definitely would say so, yeah! At least, it has certainly helped me. I've recently been rebuilding old sets (mainly because of wanting to make sure all the parts are there, and because my old sets gathered a lot of dust over my Dark Ages) and I've noticed many things I got wrong when I originally built the sets - stickers in the wrong places, stickers the wrong way around, pieces incorrectly placed, etc. There are also a lot of pieces I used to get confused by, like triangular plates that would point one way or another, but I couldn't tell the difference between them. These aren't as much of a problem anymore, because building my own things has helped me to figure out the different pieces. It's certainly helped with spatial awareness, because now I've been able to create some slightly larger things than I was able to make before, completely out of my own head. I'm also made a bit spatially aware by counting studs and building all my things on baseplates, so I can measure the available space on my desk in the amount of baseplates that can be put on there. I've been able to visualise things in my own mind a little bit clearer too. LEGO is so helpful and therapeutic! -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
AnnaBuildsLego replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I would wager that the minifig series' will continue indefinitely, really. Seeing as minifigures are one of the main reasons LEGO is so popular, having collectable minifigures sold separately from sets was a great move on LEGO's part. I've seen so many kids drag their parents through the LEGO section whose parents don't have enough money to buy any sets, and so the kids go (quite happily) home with a minifigure pack or two instead. It's actually rather funny, because I remember AFOL sites being a bit concerned that the minifigures wouldn't last back when Series 1 debuted. I wonder if they will drop the "Series Number" tag eventually, though? I think after a certain amount they would probably want to "restart" that numbering, just because by the time Series 100 comes around, the kids buying them will not have existed back when Series 1 came out, and there's a certain feeling of missing out when you join the game at Series 100. I'm no expert on this though, just rambling. As for my opinions on licensed themes: I don't mind particularly, but I would like them to be limited to one per year. I do mostly like the Disney series, but only enough to buy a few figures. The Batman CMF line could be good, but I'm a DC fan without a massive interest in Batman so if it doesn't contain any interesting characters who have more scope than being purely Batman-centric, then I won't be interested. Ninjago is unfortunately something I have no interest in whatsoever. I absolutely love the normal minifigure series, so I really hope LEGO doesn't start leaning too hard on licensed ones. I think the Disney series will be received extremely well and will likely have more series' in the future. -
City Corner is definitely a great example of a City set, it's one of the sets I massively regret missing out on. I really wanted it back in the day too, I just must have prioritised Star Wars sets, which is a shame because many of the Star Wars sets I have from that time are now sets I don't massively care for. City Corner was great because it had a civilian building (the pizza shop) and a bus, and I feel like a bus is definitely needed now to go with the "Bus Stop" sign we get with Fun in the Park. I feel like making sets like City Corner again would be amazing.

What Hilt of LEGO Lightsaber you prefer?
AnnaBuildsLego replied to Nick6314's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The old shiny chrome silver is the best, it just looks beautiful. I have a few of them about the place - it makes my old Darth Vader minifig look great. The only problem with the old chrome is that the colour could sometimes chip off, leaving just a flat grey underneath it. Sometimes if you constantly took a lightsaber off a minifig and put it back in their hand again, their hands could scratch the chrome off. Personally I didn't mind this though, because whenever the figure held the lightsaber, their hand would cover any scratched parts. The flat grey is pretty boring and doesn't do much to show that the weapon is a lightsaber, IMO. The new chrome hilts are okay, but I much prefer the shiny old ones.- 43 replies

Why to we feel the need to modify?
AnnaBuildsLego replied to __________________________'s topic in Community
I have a pretty weird answer to this, I guess. I was in my Dark Ages from the second half of 2010 through to this year, having been an avid collector of LEGO prior to 2010. Back then, I would always built my sets exactly as instructed, including applying stickers - this was because I was not only a LEGO purist, but I am autistic and one of the things I struggle with is spatial awareness and memory, so I simply wasn't able to remember how to implement techniques I had already encountered which could have improved my models. If I could build an extremely simple tree by myself to add to a display, it was a massive victory for me. I still remember feeling very proud of building a simple LEGO bench for my minifigures to sit on in my City park, and I still do feel happy with such simple changes. I also remember slightly changing the interior of the old 2007 Service Station, and really being happy with that. A lot has changed for me since 2010, and I've really gotten comfortable with being autistic and have worked on the challenges. Since getting back into LEGO - while I still struggle with MOCing - I've been incredibly excited about altering my sets and making things uniquely my own creations. I've never felt this excited about it! As it stands, I have a big unopened Pet Shop waiting for me as soon as I finish a college assignment, and one of the main reasons I can't wait to build it is so that I can deck out the apartment building in my own way. Essentially: I don't know why we get the inclination to modify LEGO sets, but the beauty of LEGO is that you can, and it enables you to create something that is entirely your own. It's also just a thoroughly rewarding experience, whether it's a gigantic mod or something very simple - it's something you can be proud of.
