Stickers isn't a big deal! Or is it?
TeriXeri replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Most MOCs I see, that use stickers at all, use custom stickers, or are digital renders that would use custom stickers if built physical. Xtra stickers came out only February this year and were unavailable/out of stock at the European Lego website from April - October 2019 (6 months!) , while I do support Xtra sticker packs and am glad they are produced/sold again, it's far from the only sticker pack used by MOCs. As for the opinion of Stickers vs Prints, I always support prints, as long as they are proper quality (alignment/opacity) and durability. Many of my old LEGO Classic Space prints from 30+ years ago still look great, it's mostly the metallic prints that have worn off. Later 90s town prints seemed to scratch more easily, especially those baseplates which were grey printed on green plastic. (and this is all through play, not display) -
LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

Let's keep the focus on actual 2020 sets in this thread. I know we all have opinions on 2019, but there's still a 2019 thread out there. -
Chinese New Year’s Sets 2020 - Rumours and Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Fenghuang0296's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Not new, but only used once, I recognized it from the 2018 Outdoor Adventures people pack : -
LEGO indeed had stated that those regional sets wouldn't happen anymore, and the Dragon Boat Race set did become available outside of just Asia/Oceania after a few months. The sets might still launch in China/Asia/Oceania first, but will eventually come to US/Europe. https://brickset.com/article/43442/lego-pledges-to-stop-launching-regional-exclusives Because of this feedback and concerns from you, our dedicated and most loyal fans, we have decided that regional exclusives launched after May 1, 2019 will become widely available via LEGO Brand Retail stores and LEGO Shop at Home after a limited period of time (3-6 months) of the initial launch. Of course not to be confused with "Limited Availability" sets : In the following areas we will still be launching products, which will have a certain limitation to availability and production runs: Pilot projects, such as Forma, to check out markets and opportunities without being able to make them widely available. Gift With Purchase campaigns through LEGO Shop at Home and LEGO Brand Retail. Products only sold in certain experiences (for example LEGOLAND, LEGO House & LEGO Brand Retail stores). Special Event Sets (Comic Cons, LEGO Inside Tour).

This is the only thing I'm confused about since the 2018 hospital is still being sold (by LEGO themselves) right now, and that set has 4 doctors, 2 paramedics, an ambulance and helicopter + hospital. Even if that set were to retire in early 2020, I still don't expect another hospital until 2021.

Some updated construction/maintenance line of sets could be nice indeed. While we had Arctic, Volcano and Mining recurring almost every 2 years, the last year where we got multiple regular yellow city maintenance was 2015 (tagged under Demolition but could be considered construction as well) 2019 had that Construction Loader, which is great, We also had a yellow crane in Downtown fire but that set is simply too big to be considered "construction" 2020 likely has an Excavator set (could be bulldozer as well based on translation), and a Street Sweeper as standalone vehicles.

The title asks for ideas for new sets, not "new ideas" , there are no strict defined rules. This is just a place to discuss potential wishlists for City sets. I've seen people complain about wishlisting" in 2019/2020 threads so this is certainly the place to wishlist any new City sets (that aren't based on rumours/names/pictures already) It's not strange to desire a new version of a set even if it has been made 3-4 years ago already, but has since "retired" (I don't consider secondary market as "On shelves")

Would be a bit more interesting if it were a €130 "go-brick-me" style customizable Brick-built Mega-Minifig instead of wood.

LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
Prison Island was more of an opportunity to focus on more water vehicles, which they did, 3 police boats, and 1 criminal tiny boat with a dockside. I wouldn't mind if the 2020 Police Station was dockside (like the 2019 Fire) , and had a police boat as it's largest vehicle, and make the prison seperate module like this set (minus helicopter) 2019 Fire station + Dockside fire set connects with technic pins in a few different ways, which adds to the variation of the set imo. -
LEGO City 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion

Speaking of 2020 police sets , wonder what vehicles they'll make , probably only a few weeks away from pictures. Final speculation : (NOT DESCRIPTIONS OF ACTUAL SETS) LEGO City 60241 Police Dog Unit : German Shepherd are the usual dog used. LEGO City 60242 Highway Arrest : Likely 2 Sports cars, 1 Police , 1 Criminal car often Darkred, possible orange accents like other villain vehicles in 2019 LEGO City 60243 Police Helicopter Chase : Could be various things, probably similar to Highway Arrest but maybe Helicopter vs villain vehicle with some stolen cargo. LEGO City 60244 Police Helicopter Transport : Probably a Semi truck with low loader trailer, maybe even larger US-style cabin with some command center in it? As for helicopters, likely 2 different styles of builds, 1 standard smaller helicopter, and 1 more cargo type as they seem to be made every few years or so. LEGO City 60245 Monster Truck Robbery : Monster truck , criminals, probably no large police vehicle, maybe a motorcycle or quad. LEGO City 60246 Police Station : Hopefully a decent building like 2019 Fire Station, maybe a seperate jail and dockside, and armored car as Police vehicle. (no helicopter as already likely 2 in the wave) -

I actually like that design for this year's "armored" truck , wish it were sold seperately tho. -
Stickers isn't a big deal! Or is it?
TeriXeri replied to Driver Brandon Grumman's topic in General LEGO Discussion
In my view, many Speed Champion cars ARE very reliant on stickers for it's grille and headlight and would look weird without them. I only got the 2019 F40 and 911 sets because they actually got headlights using LEGO parts, most of the other Speed Champs using stickered headlights look very weird to me, and even worse without stickers. That said, I can understand the need to use stickers as there simply aren't infinitesmall parts in each shape. -

Some countries had Porsche and even Lamborghini as Police Cars for highway chases. The Huracán Polizia is outfitted with all the accoutrements you might expect a highway patrol officer might need: an on-board tablet and computer, recording equipment and a video camera to document police operations on the road, a gun holster, portable extinguisher, standard VHF police radio, and hooks for retaining the hand-held stop sign used to stop vehicles safely. https://fortune.com/2017/03/30/italy-police-lamborghini/ Of course sports car will never be the majority , but they are indeed used. To me the 2019 Police Car looks a lot like US muscle car as well , here's a german version : Even if this german Police version of the mustang is pretty much a one-off, they are used more in the US, I just used this example for it's color scheme. -
I think the video is pretty clear: Look past City for more civilian sets and houses. While in the past many aspects were all under the big Town umbrella (including subthemes like Paradisa), City eventually split up in multiple civilian themes that include minifigs or minidolls. The only House set ever under the City label was in 2010. Creator 3-in-1 started adding minifigs to the house sets since 2011 and moved away from baseplates. Friends launched 2012 , which added a lot of shops, houses, leisure places never before even seen in Town or City, but minidolls are indeed somewhat different. Creator Expert modular buildings are around since 2007. Town Plan was under the Creator Expert theme in 2008. Winter village buildings was under Creator Expert theme since 2008. City Advent Calendars seem to be moving more towards Civilian lately and no longer include 1 or more Criminal/Police/Firemen the last 2 versions (2018/2019) Overall, the "Current" state of City isn't so current at all, and rather been like this for 7+ years after the introduction of Friends and shift of focus on 3-in-1 sets to minifigs. Sets like the 2017 Pizza Van being sold longer then average (almost 2 years now), certainly shows there's interest in food/shops, & we got a Donut/Toy shop set this year. The recent Xtra theme launch also helps with expanding City-like scenes, especially things like Trees, Food and the Stickers pack (stickers are available again after being sold out for a while)

7741 still looks better then much newer helicopters like 60318 from 2017 , brick built > prefab cockpit/rear imo.

Lego City 2019 - Rumours, Speculation and Discussion
TeriXeri replied to TheArturro's topic in LEGO Town
Next (late november) City magazine goes back to the City Space line and has an orange spacesuit with trans-lightblue helmet figure, on a small car that's similar to the one from Benny's squad but with slightly bigger wheels. -
That's how I feel it is as well, you just worded it better And even someone could swoop in and say to me "Oh you want Aquazone reboot, but 2019 had Friends underwater and 3-in-1 underwater Robot/Deepsea Creatures" , true, but I can see how a reaction like could come across as negatively, possibly even if it's not meant as such.

Ok back on original topic: Castle Hopefully back to simpler days, and preferably focused on Castle buildings and horses, possibly fantasy but no huge pre-molded bigfigs. Also possibly some less war-like sets like a Knights Joust , King's Feast, or Medieval Market/Blacksmith. Space Designs based off the older 80s and 90s, with angled bricks/windscreens and exposed studs, in a more traditional color scheme, possibly bringing back neon colors. At least some sets with terrain or buildings as well. Aquazone - Lightbrick on a Deep-Sea vehicle - Updated grabber arms using more modern parts. - At least 1 underwater base. - Terrain with some rocks/plants, or a "cavern entrance" set , possibly shark/sawfish/octopus/dolphin (new colors) or entirely new animals, or reuse of the "Friends" underwater decoration. Items to collect : - Gold nuggets (or recolors) - Geodes (seen in 2019 space, possibly new colors as well) - Crystals like the old ones, maybe in a more recently used painted silver instead of chrome.

They actually just put the 60154 bus in the last City Magazine comic, recolored blue, which I think is interesting. I know that set officially retired around a year ago, but I could also use a new Bus set like that.

I think it's hard to know what 2020 brings so far as a whole, I know we get the 3-yearly "City-Police" Reboot in 2020, which is expected (6 Police sets + 2 more Fire sets) We do get an Icecream truck which is nice as it doubles as a vehicle and a shop. - Street Sweeper and Construction Excavator Summer 2020 has a lot of sets codenamed in/out, which could be a lot of different things in the literal sense : - Airport subtheme (Cargo and passengers go in/out) , and we are 4 years since the 2016 Airport. - Harbor subtheme (Cargo goes in/out) - Racing/Pit-Stop subtheme ? (But winter already has Race Car Duel / Gas Station / Tuning Workshop ) - Safari Offroader might be an indication for a Safari exploration theme which would be a first for LEGO, but not unusual with the amount Big Cats we've gotten in recent subthemes like Jungle, Arctic (sabertooth) and Mountain (Cougar) I still think Summer 2020 will be an interesting time for City.

There are a lot of civliian sets within City/Creator 3-in-1/Friends and even Hidden Side has civilian elements (Diner/Fishing Boat/School/Train) I don't think that Police, Fire or Explorer themes replace other sets. Even in the far away past, we had other subthemes of Town like ResQ and Divers (Brickset even labels them as subthemes) Does that make me an apologist?

The moment the theme launched and the App didn't work (won't show up on app store if not compatible) on my fairly recent 2018 phone, that was also a part of the reason for losing some interest for me.
-
I had some old Space baseplates (Crater and Landing Pad from set 928 Galaxy Explorer) that discolored into yellow while not even being in sunlight for the last 10 years, meanwhile other old-grey road plates from around a similar age didn't discolor as much. Straight Road Plates came on the market in 1978 (Europe), and the Galaxy Explorer in 1979 so the age should be very similar. Also, the greys from the Galaxy Explorer itself hasn't yellowed as much as the baseplates either.

So far the 2019 sets just haven't grabbed me, despite high discounts. While I was hyped initially, I haven't gotten any sets or magazines yet, and I might skip the theme entirely. Doesn't mean the theme is bad, it's just that it's not 100% my thing after a long look at it. I realize a lot of those sets certainly can be adapted for regular City/Creator styles, but right now I'm in a period of awaiting 2020 pictures and such , both Hidden Side and other themes.

LEGO Speed Champions 2020 - Rumors, Speculation, and Discussion
TeriXeri replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in LEGO Town
To be honest, the more I look at it, the more I dislike the fact of 2-packs, instead of 8 wide being a factor for me to purchase sets. And with the current 2020 looking to have a parts/price increase that will play an even bigger role. And of course I can say "don't build the other car" but sets like this year's Mini , the Mini was literally a Mini part of the overall set/price, but if it were a seperate set I'd likely have bought one. I also didn't buy the first version of the 911 pack (lime green) , due to the other car in there. Lambo remains one of my top favorite car brands, and I hope they might maybe do a Lambo in a bright color as single-set (Orange, Yellow, Bright Green), like they did re-release the 911 single set. Maybe add an option to "Spyder" , like the did have some customization with the F40 set.
