THE PIRATE BAY IS GOING TO BE AN OFFICIAL LEGO SET!!!!
jus1973 replied to Another Brick In The Wall's topic in LEGO Pirates
I thought that was due to be a small theme park ride in the same way as the 3 in 1 pirate coaster? If it’s genuinely a pirate ship then I think that’s a mistake by TLG, as for this set, whilst it’s quite a bit different from the original design, I’m going to be ordering, as I think the finished article is well worth it. I can’t see me displaying it as a ship often though. -
I’m mostly a set builder, but my aim is to be more of a MOC builder over time. I’ve purchased quite a lot of sets from all sorts of ranges, when discounted to build up a stash of elements and bricks, that either get built once and then dismantled or never get built at all. Of the sets I’ve built to keep, these tend to be creator expert sets, or the similar ones from Lego Ideas and one off display sets like GBHQ and stranger things etc.

Yes that’s the one. It’s actually on three sides. The image you have is the pedestrian area, with a sunken cafe area on the left in your image. The shop stretches to the road behind, which you can just see where the flag poles end on the left. There’s a street entrance there too. if i recall correctly this entrance Is about half a storey higher than the doors you can see in your picture. The architecture lower down is not that interesting but if you look at the building as a whole its amazing Art Deco (I think).

Thanks for sharing this. it’s starting to take shape well. The train is going to be a bit tight but perhaps you can create a loop at each end somehow. I’m only just starting to dabble in trains so I can’t help much with that. I’m planning something similar for my modulars and fairground, and looking at the space you’ve got to work with, I’m now worried that my space is too small. I also have the Ferris wheel, carousel and GBHQ plus 8 modulars and some MOC modulars too which I was planning to fit into a similar sized desk space. Oops.

There is one in New York, as part of the Rockefeller centre. It’s not in a mall, and has two entrances, one on a street, and another into a pedestrian zone. Architecturally might be nice to look at in terms of basing a MOC on, if you can find pictures.

I like the look of this. Very definitely early 80s BR. I always assumed we got moulded fronts for passenger trains to keep the part count and weight down. I guess this version weighs a fair bit more than the original.

I’m shipping my UCS falcon back to the uk, and to save rebuilding it from scratch, I’ve wrapped all the panels in cling film. I’ve seen some guys do the same for shows too. Was it some form of industrial version of that?

Absolutely. I’ve also heard that some folk have been unhappy with the choice of green as a baseplate colour. With the garden out back of a house being mostly lawn, green is about the most sensible colour other than soil brown. I can’t wait to get mine and build a little garden with a BBQ and things.

I agree that it’s a bit smaller than previous ones and next to some of the early modulars they’ll probably look a bit out of proportion. I’ve only got the last 6 or 7 so it’ll probably be fine I hope. Otherwise I’ll have to find a way of making them a little taller at least.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I wonder if we all said the same thing about the pet shop? Sadly I don’t have one to compare it to. -

I assume you refer to the ones common in the nexo knights sets. A book shop full of them would definitely up the part count. Probably more realistic to have a few of them, and then 1x2 printed tiles, placed at the top of stacks of regular plates. That’s the sort of thing we’d see in bookshops in Europe. -

Ok, Assuming its a bookstore/library, What’s going to be the secondary shop. The optometrist idea that was floated before has merit, but seems a little obvious. The secondary businesses have been anachronistic to the primary in the most recent modulars. I mean, gym over recording studio over a diner. Vets above a garage. I hope the style is at least interesting, and not so ‘plain’ as i found the garage to be. -

It’s more likely to be a gift with purchase item, perhaps by February. They’ll want to check things carefully first -
I totally agree, and it’s probably cheaper than buying the parts separately, especially with the sales opening up about now.
-
Thanks a million @Jerry McGlade. A dig into my parts bin will be underway shortly.

I’d love to see how the mechanism works for this. Any photos of that around? thanks

Thanks for the idea. I’m going to have to contact them now anyway as I’m a part short. My first in a long time. Oddly it’s not one of the small bits, and super common so I could substitute it from spare stock. (1x4 light grey brick)

Likewise. I rarely see them discounted. -
Unfortunately living in Switzerland Amazon and eBay Shipments usually incur extra tax at customs making a small purchase much more expensive. Its so annoying.

There’s been a lot of food and drinks places over the years. We’ve also had pet shops and vets, dance studios and music instrument shop. Recording studio too. We’re missing a place for the mechanic to buy his tools. Perhaps a hardware store and newspaper stand/small corner store, although not on a corner. Obviously since we had a corner last time. -
So, been lurking here a couple of weeks after ordering one of these beasts for just under half RRP. I wouldn’t have purchased it otherwise as I’m not sure where I’m going to put it once built. Just finished bags 7 and am now looking if I can add a few simple but effective mods. There are some great ones here. I’d really love to replicate them but my build skills and parts bin prevent me from doing so. I’ve got some angel hair LEDs which I want to try to thread through the blue tubes of the engines. also looking at that large empty space in the right rear quarter and looking at a bunk room. the ideas here are great. Also wondering if anyone has got or knows where to get scans of the tunnel stickers. I stupidly stuck mine on without thinking.

How did you manage to get this out of them. If it’s true. Usually they are so tight lipped. -

I’ve never really thought much about the colors of the baseplates. I had originally planned to replace them for modulars I own (PR PC DO CG DD AS), to either grey or tan. Perhaps I shouldn’t bother.
