Well just recall your color theory lessons from art class. Red signifies the Passions, as in behavior controlled mostly by feeling and not by reason. Perhaps it is cliche in the context of criminal behavior (which for a good number of crimes is actually methodical and calculating). It does, nevertheless, bear out that red is considered an aggressive color.

I would settle for a clinic! But a hospital released in parts that you could expand as a series in a line would be much more to my liking. Like getting the vehicle storage/deployment area in one set. Then getting the reception/triage area in another set. Wards and Staffers for said wards in the next etc. Though I can see arguments from many folks against this specially from LEGO itself. Plus I grant that intrinsically that is what LEGO allows for now, but an actual official mega set that came in portions would be cool and allow LEGO to deliver the set people envision. It also strikes me as a good compromise between cost and the actual vision of a hospital most people who would buy the series expect. I mean I do agree a city hospital is a HUGE structure and that should be reflected in some way and an official set that approximated its importance would be very welcome!

I like the color scheme and the texture to the walls by having slightly different colored bricks in them. Is it fully enclosed? The only thing it might need (though it depends on anything you want to put next to it) is perhaps a sign and a bit more "product" someplace that is easily visible. Other than that as it is it could double as a corner café as well! Well done!

Swamp Police Collection (with very slight modifications...for now)
Japanbuilder replied to Japanbuilder's topic in LEGO Town
I modified my vignette slightly and took some photos. On the polybag build that came for this sub-theme I added proper indicator lights rather than the all blue set up it came with originally. I took, hopefully, better snaps of the police force since I went through the trouble of making them each as unique as possible. I pillaged some of my other city sets for the life preservers and in general just made it look a bit more active. I also tried to make sure the station technician got a bit more of a spotlight since I actually like him. Hope you guys like it! I am bit disappointed in the airport terminal. Given the state of my collection at the moment it would take quite a bit of bricks to actually make it into a proper terminal (more than just a gate and a control tower). But the airplane in that set looks nice to me. Hmm. Taking a closer look at the volcano theme and given that I missed the party for the arctic series I may actually get into that theme. I would like some researchers and scientist type people for my collection. The lime green color is growing on me also but I think that is mostly due to the fact that it helps the figures blend into the structures and machines, like they're nearly one and the same. But the cream of the crop for sure is still that park set for me! Seeing better images of it have got my blood running in anticipation of the release date!

I like it very much.

Well if you are coming to Japan for Legos you may be disappointed. I would go to brickset and see if the set you want was even released in Japan at all. If it was then the best bet to get it is to find a click brick shop or a very large Yamada Denki or Bic Camera and see if they are carrying the set you want. Sets released specifically for the Japan market seem limited to children just getting out of Duplo age. Like this set here: http://brickset.com/...asic-Red-Bucket Those sets sell for substantially less here in their intended market than elsewhere. Ive seen US Amazon for the above bucket reach a hundred dollars. In japan you can usually get it for 30 or less if you get lucky with a sale. Sets that appear to be exclusive to Japan include: http://www.rebelscum...sives_47508.asp http://lego.wikia.co...n_releases_only

I wish I had the options everyone else had. In my country there are very few Bricklink stores and all of them have a very poor selection. Ordering from so far afield has been expensive so far. Usually for me in Japan the best bet for a decent deal is to either go to Amazon.co.jp and hope they have what I want for close to even slightly reduced prices than the MSRP or....bite the bullet and go to either my closest Lego affiliate shop (which is far for me) or go to the local Yamada Denki and pray and hope like a madman they are carrying the set I want. I end up paying a lot more per piece than I would like. So I have chose to limit my Lego sprees to End of Year and January. The only silver lining here is that most large department stores that carry Lego do blow out sales at year's end to make way for the new year's Lego inventory! That is how I got into City this past December; got 2 large sets for half off heh heh.

Swamp Police Collection (with very slight modifications...for now)
Japanbuilder replied to Japanbuilder's topic in LEGO Town
Thanks! I am not a good photographer but I tried to shove the camera as close as I could to get those views from the minifig's perspective. I'll keep working on it. -
I realize I am a year late to the party that was Swamp Police, however,I have only recently got back into Lego this past December. Prior to that I had not really gotten anything lego related for myself since the early 90s. My last memory was of me losing interest in them after Blacktron changed to the green and white color scheme. Now that I have kids that interest was rekindled getting sets for them. I happened to have stumbled upon a good deal on the Police Station for Swamp Police and fell in love with the vehicles and color scheme, despite the oddness of the theme. Over the next month I put together my collection. 3 of the sets in this series were very ANNOYING to get. They were never released in Japan and I had no idea they existed until I started looking into acquiring every set released for this line. Aside from sets 30311, 60070 and 60071 I was able to get some form of deal on the others. Having to import those 3 though meant I ended up paying the original cost anyway. Oh well. I have modified many of the faces on the cops and added crooks from the city proper to the line. This was mostly to accommodate a bit of a back story for my swamp. Mostly to give every figure a unique face or hair piece. I may add environmental elements but as I only own 18 sets of Lego at the moment that is going to take quite a bit. My biggest issue so far is space. Even though I have a large house by Japanese standards accommodating Lego is not first and foremost in the space design here. The back story is simple, but since the theme is so nutty I had to try to draft one up. :Background: The City (proper) Police has managed to drive the most dangerous elements of villainy into the city outskirts. This not withstanding, the crooks' ringleader has managed to scrape together enough muscle and is now biding in his time in the swamps just outside the city. Moles in the crime ring inform the police that the crooks have a substantial presence of both all-terrain hardware and members to cause serious problems back in town. They further report that the swamp's rugged terrain is hindering the efforts of even regular City Police Patrols to keep tabs on the crooks. In a bid to stem a resurgence of illicit activities the city has, at great expense, converted its Swamp Ranger and Park Service into a deputized force and obtained heavy all-terrain equipment to deploy in the swamp. Police informants have also bolstered their ranks in an effort to find the crooks and eliminate their dark syndicate once and for all! :End Background: Has anyone else enjoyed this series as much as I have? Which is your favorite set in the line? ::Edit:: I am so bad with code and embbeding pictures. My apologies for my previous post titled the same way which went through before I finalized what I was doing in this thread >< Very embarrassed!

I need that park! Like yesterday I needed it! >.< My list for end of year is getting ridiculous...my wallet is already groaning in pain! But I need that park! *edit* I also hope it is not a region exclusive! Please let it be released in Japan!

Brickset says I personally own 16 sets (15 different) from that 15 count I have 3019 pieces. 32 mini figures which seems off since I have more in just my diorama (seems it is a unique figure count). I just emerged from a LONG dark age this past late December. So just about a month of buying Lego again. *edit* Ok it is working correctly now the Brickset list. I own 17 sets (16 Unique) with 51 mini figures which is also a correct census for my collection. Totally want so many more!

The position and future of Friends and minidolls in Lego?
Japanbuilder replied to Dorayaki's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Don't really see the issue. My little girls have no problem mixing them for play. They are toys to them. For city builders the solution is simple I think. Just don't use the Minidolls in your MOCs. Get the colorful CMF line of mini figures or even some of the colorful ones from Lego Juniors to round out your population with female orientated figures. Most of the mini doll accessories if not all work just fine with mini figures too so you can make some good Minifig twins if you like. There are plenty of options I think. My only beef with the Minidolls is no holes in the back of the legs for sitting down. My little girls know that a car seat is a car seat and it irks them bit to not have their princesses be able to sit in the police helicopters (they don't mind extending the builds to make them fit either but they just don't stay seated is the issue)lol. I also noticed their hands have minimal wrist articulation which makes them going on canoe trips on the city caravan a bit difficult >.> But ultimately they are two different lines of toys from Lego. Both have their place and kids don't care they use both freely when they're there to be used. I also don't think they will outright replace either figure going forward. So many decades now of vested collectors in the mini figure universe and a growing user base of mini doll users too. Both working around the same brick system no need to fix what is not busted as some other users have said. -
Recently having gotten back into Lego I noticed that as well. The lack of sprawling civilian compounds and other everyday structures. Indeed I have been highly tempted to buy Friends sets and simply not use the Friends figures but populate them with regular mini figures. I have nearly completed a Police sub-theme (last set is in the mail and coming my way) and I don't need anymore of that going forward (35 mini figures split between crooks and cops). So I have begun the painstaking process of going through recent City sets (the past 3 or 4 years) and ordering campers, caravans, municipal services trucks etc. Just to have a civilian population that outnumbers the cops and crooks in my town lol. It is going to take a long time >< as I want at the least a 4:1 ratio between civilians and a combined cops and crooks count. >.> I want to see what type of figures are included in the rumored volcano sets! If it is loaded with scientist and other handy accessories I am there in a flash!

Have you ever felt judged for liking LEGO?
Japanbuilder replied to Chilly_Productions's topic in Community
I suppose you get that stare at times, but I shop with my kids when I get them so heh heh. I also never really noticed. My wife builds her own on occasion. So no problem there. I am sure my in-laws think it is childish and a waste of money but meh, my life not theirs lol. Also and most importantly, my money, not theirs heh heh. But this topic made me think about it. Which is probably a good sign it has never bothered me lol. If you are self conscious about it I'd say surround yourself with people who don't care or actually enjoy it as much as you do. Or just order online. The person handing you the box typically is too busy to care what they're handing off to you.- 107 replies

Stealing/Borrowing your kids Lego!
Japanbuilder replied to eanair's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I make it so that all the lego in the house are mine so it is not stealing when you borrow from yourself heh heh. If they want to remake something I just dismantle what I was working on and give the pieces back to them. It cultivates the whole sharing thing better that way. -
My only method so far that works is to clean my assembly area prior to building. Bring out the vacuum and just clean it. Then wipe down the place with a moist towelette/rag or something. Then let it sit for an hour or two, then build. If you don't wait the dust you just kicked up will get into your stickers for sure! It is a process but it pays off. Next is to get padded or somewhat padded tweezers or some other make up tool that is small and dainty but will hold on firmly to the sticker without damaging it. The reason being that lining up stickers with fingers is a skill I do not have. I then apply the sticker slowly (if it is big) and kinda pat it down as it is adhering to the surface. This "should" clear out air. Applying them fast I find lets in more air than you would think >< If you do this enough you will get used to it. Still stickers are my bane! Do not appreciate them.

Best packs for collecting diverse hair pieces
Japanbuilder replied to Japanbuilder's topic in Minifig Customisation Workshop
Thank you for the reply. I have tried the service options at Clickbrick and their services are pretty good but they face the same restrictions on sets as the rest of the region. So often times if the part is in a set that never came to Japan there is not much they can do. For general catalog sets they are good though, however, I am not sure how they stay in business. Most sets they sell are far cheaper on domestic Amazon than at the store itself. I have actually found a cheap work around to my woes from other sets in the city line. Going to get a few of those and strip them for parts. Altogether the sum is more than reasonable to actually importing specific pieces. -
