Technic wheels
Paul Boratko replied to DarkShadow73's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
As David mentioned, I have a guy named Don Pirre who can also color tint the chrome wheels and we got an amazing crimson red color effect over chrome for a project that I did a short while ago... -

As long as no one is selling Instructions for it, it doesn't bother me... I hope the guy gets a zillion simoleons for it and buys Toontown... -

You are better off going to your local Toys R Us and making certain purchases as there are no limitations for how many certain sets that you can purchase at one time... Online you can only get 1 supercar at a time... My buddy in West Virginia picked up 4 Supercars yesterday at his local store at the buy on get one off deal... They are also running some kind of goofy $20 max free shipping deal online, so you may also be better off making multiple orders to save on the shipping... Got to stick it to the man... -

I can't believe how fast that you build... I have been working on a single door for a new project for the past week and I am still not 100% happy with it... -

There was a seller on Bricklink from Germany who had well over 200 black Bushings in his store at a modest price and another seller with over 150 and shortly after my instructions were released, someone bought all of them up in one shot from each store... Not saying that there was a definite connection, but I wouldn't doubt if someone was trying to corner the market on them... Someone also recently had 100 of them for 24 cents a piece... That was a steal on those rare pieces... The seller with the highest quantity now has 100... At $1.00 each... -
9395 Tow Truck
Paul Boratko replied to Tadej's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I would say that motorizing the model is pointless based on the simplistic functions(and ugly appearance when the motor is installed) , but the gearbox does do what it's supposed to as it It selects between 2 functions, which as far as I can tell works properly... -
How long a set is kept alive?
Paul Boratko replied to mobi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
nychase is right, it normally is around 18 months to 2 years for Technic... Some system sets seem to go on forever, like the Death Star -

My wife got the set... IMO, it is a pretty nice set... I think it was well designed for it's size... The only thing that I don't like about it is if you are going to motorize it, the motor kind of hangs off of the rear end... But motorizing this small model really isn't really necessary anyways... -
LEGO Star Wars 2012 Pictures and Rumors
Paul Boratko replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think they are purposely doing all of this with leaked images and videos briefly showing new models just to create hype... If they didn't want things getting leaked out, they could prevent it... I would also like to add that I think this UCS model is amazingly well done and I am impressed... -
what is "technic"?
Paul Boratko replied to KEvron's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
True, you could use that part as Lucky Pierre... You could also use this part to connect them together and I am sure that there are a few others as well... But as far as being being compatible with one to the other directly as stated earlier in this thread, this combination debunks the every part does fit with each other and the example that I used is with 2 extremely common parts... However the original statement could also have just meant that they fit with each other as far as styling goes meaning that they are all Lego, so the system bricks don't look out of place on a model primarily built from Technic... -

I am not entirely sure what he Meatman meant by his statement, but This Piece does not fit with This Piece so by you saying that they all do isn't true... And this is just one of probably hundreds of examples... -

Same thing could be argued for the 8145 599 GTB or the 8653 Enzo... Say you own the 8653 Ferrari Enzo and you're talking to someone about sets that you own and you mention that you have the Enzo set and they ask "Which one?" wouldn't you say "The Technic one" since there were 2 completely differently build Enzo models that came out in 2005...? -
what is "technic"?
Paul Boratko replied to KEvron's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very good example... That set is only comprised of Technic parts(some very rare ones and colors that only came in that set)... There is also this set which is about 90% Technic parts: I was thinking a little more about this subject while I was working today and thought of another situation... Say you go to a Lego show somewhere and at 2 separate areas of the show are huge Eiffel Towers on display built by 2 different people, one is made out of traditional systems blocks and the other is made from 100% Technic Beams and Pins... Now say that you run into a friend at the show and you start talking about MOCs that you liked or had seen and you say "Hey did you see that Eiffel Tower?" and he asks "Which One?" would you say "The Technic one" or "The one made out of Technic Parts"...? I think this is a good example of where the difference of opinion lies between us in what we consider Technic and what we don't... -

Here is a set labeled as "Technic" by Lego that as far as I know has no Functions what so ever... Unless posable arms, legs, and feet are considered functions.. -
what is "technic"?
Paul Boratko replied to KEvron's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If a model is constructed of Technic parts, I would associate that with Technic building.... The actual build of a Technic model is what makes it Technic or not... Using Technic pieces is a more advanced or "Technical" way of building... If it is comprised mainly of Technic parts, then what else would it be classified as...? Look back when Technic first started, Technic sets didn't have many functions at all... As far as the "Racers" theme goes, I think that was a name slapped on to make the sets sound more appealing to the consumer... As someone stated in another thread here, what is the difference between the 2000 8458 "Technic" Silver Champion and the 2002 8461 Willaims F1 "Racer" as they are almost identical... What makes one a "Racer" over the other one except for the fact that the "Racer" idea had not come about yet..? And Nathanael's 8674 is also considered a "Racer" (actually all of the Ferrari sets Lego released were called Racers, regardless of how they were constructed. I assume that they did this to keep all of the Ferrari sets in their own sub category) I don't think that anyone could convince me that this set above isn't Technic... I don't care what it says on the box... These other 3 sets while somewhat uninteresting are also called "Racers" but the building style is Technic... I would think of anyone who builds with primarily only Technic parts as a Technic Builder and their models as Technic Models... Does anyone know if any of the "Racer" titled models 8653, 8145, 8674, 8461, 8682, 8649, 8146 were designed by anyone outside of the Technic Team of designers at Lego...? -
For as much as I wish this were true, sadly I don't think that it is...(at least here in the States anyways) I have done several shows and various events and I would say that maybe 1 out of 10 adult builders at those same events are actually interested in pure Technic, and if they had kids, then their kids were also into it as well... I think I remember reading that Technic makes up like 10% of Lego's entire sales...? I might be wrong though...

LOL... Yeah, there's always that too... I even tried color dying silver and white flex axles, but they shrink before the temp reaches high enough for the dye to take full effect...
