There is a guy here in my town that has a Yellow Prowler and a matching Yellow Dodge Viper... The Prowler is a pretty nice looking car to see one close up... I believe there were only around 12,000 of them produced in 1997 and then again in 1999 through 2002... It would probably be a fairly easy MOC to replicate...

Shapeways Custom Lego Parts
Paul Boratko replied to TasV's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't know how familiar that you are with Cuusoo, but I am a little familiar with their processes and I know that proposing Non-Lego elements to Cuusoo is a complete waste of time... Projects that have already reached 10k supports have been rejected due to non Lego elements being used... I honestly do not know why they even accept non existant projects since they will reject them anyways.. Here in the states, Technic is by far the most unaccepted style of Lego building with AFOL (mostly TFOL) and Casual fans of Lego... It is sickening.. -
Shapeways Custom Lego Parts
Paul Boratko replied to TasV's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I guess my biggest gripe is the fact that most people(Lego builders) don't consider TECHNIC to even be Lego to begin with and then when you start introducing Frankenstein createded parts whether thay are either chopped up and glued real Lego parts, or custom made non Lego parts like these, they are not taken seriously... I am a guy who is trying to push real Technic into mainstream(and I have been doing my best for many years) and this kind of stuff is what newcomers to the advanced style turn their nose up at... I am not going to start any bashing, but it isn't Lego.. If I go to a Lego show and I recognize models with homemade parts, I am not even going to acknowledge that they are there... Do you know how many times that I would have loved to have made my own part(s) to make my designs easier, but I worked with official parts instead..? I am working on a piece right now for a Museum and I could really use some custom parts that would help me out tremendously, but that would be defeating the point... -
Shapeways Custom Lego Parts

I'll be the first to come right out and say it... While I find these custom made parts an interesting concept, I do not take them or any models that use them in their build as Legitimate Lego MOC projects... When things like this are introduced, the models that use them have turned into just that, models... -
Completely agree, the pivot point is too far back instead of inside of the wheel like it should be... I also think that what you see overall in the final project is just as important as the inner workings and this is why: Many times people build really great concepts or have great new ideas for either gearboxes or some other new mechaniam and they can't wait to post pictures and they end up rushing to slap together a body style in a few days that doesn't equal the great inner workings and the model goes on unnoticed because of the lack of eye appeal.... Many times you can already tell how good a model is going to be is by seeing interesting techniques used to build the body... I normally spend about just as much time designing the outside of one of my models as I do the inside... I am still kind of shocked that Lego never even made a Lamborghini in the racers series similar to the 8145/8653 size and style... What a waste of a license...

Well you could mount the engine in the front or rear, but it was always rear wheel drive... Nathanael's Concept car gave the option to make either front or rear wheel drive... You could be right.. It has been a Long time since I built it.. I just remember the chain and was like WTF..??? While I think the 8448 took a small step backwards as far as overall functions went, I think it took a nice step forward as far as resembling an actual car...
-
I felt the 8448 was much more realistic as a modern car in both looks and functions compared to the 8880... The one thing that I really hated about the 8880 was the fact that the V8 engine was attached to the drive train by a chain... That's not very realistic.. Lego needs to make larger scale wheels and tires.. Maybe 1:7 or even 1:6...

Tow Truck XL
Paul Boratko replied to dikkie klijn's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Just so everyone knows, this file is 126MB and can't be sent through email(I had someone ask about this) The file is much too large to send through most email inboxes... It's much easier to just download... Also make sure that you have the most recent version of Adobe Reader installed... -
Yes.. I bought them when those guys were having a sale, but they are still fairly inexpensive at only around $4.50 USD each... They also sell this same wheel in Gold...

Lego in my house is very much a business as it is a hobby as my wife sells parts on Bricklink and I do the designing... She is also the set builder in the house in both Technic and system.... I'll be quite honest, getting back into Lego building saved my life back in the late 90's as I was spending way too much time working and then drinking... Building is about the only thing that helps me keep my sanity.. That is until I start talking to my projects, which I have been caught doing on numerous occasions... I am also very jealous of you guys with such nice and tidy work areas... My work area consists of my dining room table and about 30 of those Stanely compartment organizers on the floor stacked up that I have to fight through everytime that I build... I get quite the workout shuffling them around during a typical night of building...

Oh wow... Thanks for the thread..! Very kind of you... I am very pleased with how this smaller scale model came out.. rm8 check your inbox...

This is pretty funny.. She can't figure out why that other project got over 1,000 supports in 4 days... Uh, maybe it was because you gave it so much attention from the videos you made and then when people seen how well done that it was they supported it... It must be a conspiracy... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tc2pKEsv6iA&feature=youtu.be&a

New Technic Part
Paul Boratko replied to nychase's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I've come accross those 2 parts in various system sets before.. Since I mostly build studless, I could never find a use for them.... There are some other oddball parts out there with Technic holes... I've been trying to find a use for this part too -
I can't beieve she still has those videos up... I wonder how many people wasted the time of the employees of Lego with e-mails and phone calls....
-
Exactly, Lego had nothing to do with any of the drama that she created all by herself(under 18 accounts she said) which resulted in nothing but embarrassment for herself and problems for the people running Cuusoo... I am sure the Kre-O fans will have awesome Youtube videos to look forward to in the future....
-
You know... I have watched a lot of delusional wacked out videos on Youtube over the years, and I would have to put this one near the top... My favorite part was "It was my copied idea"... She says this despite the same themed project already existing for over a year before her submission... How people can still back this person truly baffles me... I would love for Tim Courtney or someone else from Cuusoo to come out and lay it all out so that this whole matter can be put to rest(and linked to) and then BrickQueen can head on down to Kre-O town with her peeps...

If they hold true to their word, I forsee a whole lot of sadness under the tree for little Cristopher this Christmas...

This is an excellent point... I was warned by a very good friend about this when I was contemplating submitting something for Cuusoo....
