  1. For those in Adelaide, Toyworld has now opened on level 2 of the Myer centre. Some bargains to be had. I picked up the squidman set for $5, plus there's a bunch of star wars sets on sale 7778 (MF) $40, 7659 Imp landing craft) $64, 7661 (Obi-wan's Jedi ship) $80, 7748 $25 (forgotten name, looks like the smaller wookiee set from a few years ago but has driods and clones, usually $40 I think) and 8036 (that ship with the Greedo type alien, yeah guess whose not into the clone wars) $40. Plus there's a bunch of construction and racers sets on sale (about 20% off I think)and purchases over $40 get you a free bionicle set. Also some hard to find star wars sets available but not discounted, Ahsoka's ship, V-19 Torrent, Magna guard ship and possibly others I missed. Edit: Big Mars mission set reduced from $130 to $65.
  2. That water is lookin' mighty clean there, pardner. Didn't think of adding a little colour to it? I love the cactus, toilet roll and the clever use of the 1x2 white plate. Edit: You sneaky bugger, I just saw what looks suspiciously like the dark brown carrot part!
  3. Mine too, even though I have several hundred sets I didn't get a pirate set until last year. Within a couple weeks I'd bought all the non-exclusive 2009 pirate sets and love them all, plus an extra copy of the cannon battle.
  4. I agree but I think it's a good topic. Strangely, licensed themes are the one group of sets where lack of alternative models doesn't worry me, as I like sets to match source material as closely as possible and this is hard to do within a licensed theme with an alternate model. But I would love alternate models to be shown for all non-licensed themes, I used to love them as a kid, trying to put together a space base from the pieces of a space ship or vice versa. Occasionally the alternates were even better than the original model. Like has been mentioned, alternate models would probably be better placed with instructions, also a few major steps like appeared in ideas books would be great too, particularly for kids who aren't even sure how to start building the great alternate model they can see.
  5. I'm not a technic guy either, and the 10178 was the hardest set I ever built too, although once finished it ended up being one of the most satisfying builds ever. Thankfully I didn't get any of those horrible crunching noises you mentioned.
  6. Myer Adelaide had very little lego on the shelves today, definitely not worth a special trip unless there was a common set you've previously missed out on and even then, they don't have a lot.
  7. As an aficionado of classic space lego, I would suggest to get what I can see there through buying on bricklink, there is absolutely no way you could get all these parts for anything like $200. Depending on quality of the pieces, $200 looks like a great buy. Edit: Assuming sets are complete, just three of the bigger classic space sets would cost you $300 to buy and you'd have to go through multiple buyers and some parts are very hard to find. I did this through parting out sets on bricklink at average prices. PLus you are getting hundreds if not thousands of other pieces.
  8. Go the ebay route, you'll get more Adelaide people (than the 9 or 10 of us here) and I just looked on ebay and of the completed listing 2 sold for $300 with only 30 and 25 hits respectively so I doubt it would be up there for more than a couple days if you listed it buy it now at $299.99 (saves fees I think keeping it less than $300) you'll be laughing. You could possibly even get more if you want. Pretty decent offer of you though.
  9. Good work, smeghead Looks like it will make a great display model and I love what you've done with the skutter. Like others I can't wait to see what you do for the minifigs. I was wondering if the K-3PO head might work for Kryten.
  10. 20% off all toys at Myer for one day only tomorrow. Not sure if any have received new stock but for those with a few exclusives like the Eiffel Tower in a local Myer, Saturday might be the day to get it.
  11. Myer centre. Same floor where their clearance shop is. They said they'er moving to a much bigger location, which hopefully means even more lego in stock. you could be right, perhaps children are scaring their usually elderly clientelle. Hi Kenny I'm 99% sure they didn't have it there, it seems to sell out quickly every time they do have it. Edit: For Whup, unfortunately no republic gunship at Toyworld Adelaide.
  12. If you like the T-3 trike, I'd say $10 is a fair (not great) price if it's in very good condition, although they'd be lucky to sell it for that on ebay, and selling to you would be much less hassle for them. Looking at the 5510 on bricklink again I'd say it's a fair price, but nothing to get overly excited about. It all depends on if these are sets you really want.
  13. I should have looked! It might be worth giving them a call, otherwise there's a good chance I'll check tomorrow. I saw a heap of Venators, they seemed to dominate the shelves.
  14. For all those in Adelaide, there's some good sales news. Toyworld currently at level 2 at Harris Scarfe in the mall are having a 20% off moving sale. In itself it doesn't seem anything to get overly excited about but they have some very hard to find sets, such as from the first agents line (I saw turbo car and submarine sets). They also have Ahsoka's ship, although even at 20% off it doesn't seem like a great deal, but it does look pretty. I grabbed the second to last copy of the castle set 7037, Troll tower raid or something I believe it's called. They also have plenty of new Pirate sets, so I'd recommend Brickbeard's bounty at that price ($112 I think). No new star wars there however. Oh the Star Justice set was the other one I noticed that I don't see on the shelves too often. Sale is on for at least another week I think.
  15. Hi Kenny It'd probably be massively cheaper to order the non snowspeeder parts from bricklink for this set if you aren't desperate for the K3PO fig as you can get a snowspeeder in the wampa attack later this year and get all your rebel troopers matching by buying the new battle packs. The best thing would be to look at the instructions for 7666 online and use the part out to your wanted list on bricklink.
  16. Shop at home now has the city advent calendar for $15 plus some other bargains, like Indi, Mutt, and Spalko magnet set for a ridiculously low $4.25. Also troll battle pack is now $15, if anyone is placing an order and would like to get an extra one and ship it to me, I'll give them $25, just PM me. Plenty of others for sale too like a current agents set half price, and 25% off a fair few power miners sets. Also Target Adelaide had a Spongebob spaceship yesterday, which is a pretty rare find for retail. Thanks to all those that posted details on the K-mart sale.
  17. Svelte, I didn't notice (you obviously did) that the Tantive IV is now $300, wasn't it $280 before? Even if it gets released to a retail store some time with a 20% off sale it's more expensive than ordering it from the US. Does anyone have any news on when Atlantis sets will be released to retailers in Australia?
  18. Hi Whup I tried to send you a personal message but it was disabled (may be because you were new) anyway here's the gist of it and apologies to those that don't think it's relevant to the thread. The latest pirates range is fantastic, I was never into pirates before but I'm hooked now. Were you talking about the Imperial ship or the Brickbeard's bounty? Because you can almost guarantee (ie don't sue me if I'm wrong) that one of the retailers will pick it up some time as an exclusive set and most likely you'd get it for 20% less than if you buy from shop at home, and you'll save on shipping, but you will have to wait and probably be quick off the mark once it makes it to retail. If you were talking about brickbeard's bounty, this is still fairly easily available and if somewhere like Myer or Target re-stocks there's a good chance you can get it for 15-20% off. I actually got mine for $99 at Myer which was great value.
  19. I think toycorner near TTP have them, but I think were a bit above RRP from memory. Also if you're near Noarlunga, that's a bit of a hike. If you get to the city much, I could possibly grab one for you some time when I go there.
  20. Nice one Clone-Trooper, K-mart Firle had one for the same price all this week that I was tempted to get but the box was pretty bashed, so I resisted. I wasn't sure I could resist the one at TTP if it was in good condition, so you saved me an expensive purchase I probably can't afford!
  21. You're right that Lego don't have an issue with darkness, it's actually the retailers. When the Graveyard duel set was released, most major retailers in Australia refused to stock it because it was 'too dark' for their target audience, however, at the time, I think the Coles-Myer group owned Myer, Target and K-mart which are three of the major stockists of Lego down under. I ended up ordering this from the US at far less than it would have cost me at shop at home, and it's one of my favourite HP sets. So I say "bring on the dark". However, I'm sure the sets will relate to whatever is in the Harry Potter lego game which from what I heard is books 1-4.
  22. Erdbeereis - 1 vote Svelte - 2 votes, I'd buy that set!
  23. With the swamp speeder at $60 for 176 pieces, that's over 34 cents a piece, does anyone know of any more expensive per piece set at RRP that doesn't include power functions or any other expensive to produce parts? The pricing is getting a little out of hand, and like many others here I'm considering how to adjust my lego budgeting, which basically means only buying sets on sale.
  24. Cheers, ISC, and yes mine is real. That was a fun 30 hours of labour for my mum over new years all those years ago.
  25. Fantastic find! I haven't had a close enough look but could the red train actually be the rumoured Hogwart's express. If anyone could spot something to confirm this or deny it'd be great.
