  1. Yeah, those 2x2 tiles are great! I picked up a cup of those a few weeks ago. Looking forward to SNOTting those on castle walls. Just need some 1x1 bricks with studs on the side to show up on our wall. Haven't seen the 6x16 DBG plates for a while; those are very handy, although they take up a lot of room in the PAB cup. I'm not in Salt Lake, but our two local stores seem pretty friendly about looking in the back, except if they're mobbed on the weekends (which is more likely at the Santa Clara store). I've found that after a few trips to the store, the employees start to recognize you and are more willing to go search for things in the back. Usually the Hillsdale store staff will wheel out the entire cart and show me all the boxes. Santa Clara is less likely to do this, although they'll usually look in the back if you tell them what you're looking for. Unless it's a total mob scene in the store, which it probably will be every weekend until the new year.
  2. I love it! What are Nahoj's talents, by the way?
  3. Rebrickable is good, but I maintain the collection and parts data in Basebrick, and then export/import into Rebrickable. Actually I make it a bit more complex than that even, as I maintain the sets I own in Brickset, and export/import those to Basebrick. Not sure why I do that; maybe historical accident. Probably because I'm using Brickset a lot as a reference, and it's just easy to click "I own it" there. Loose parts I maintain directly in Basebrick, either by uploading Bricklink order data, or keying in PAB purchases. Basebrick is quite good, and Marco (who runs it) is very responsive about questions and feature enhancements. I like it better than Rebrickable for maintaining and checking collection information. It's can-I-build-this-particular-set feature is (or was) a bit better than Rebrickable's. Where Rebrickable really shines is determining what sets you can build with your collection.
  4. Welcome aboard, Sebeus! Robuko -- congratulations! I remember when my son was born (six+ years ago); a great day. I'm surprised you had time to visit EB. You'll be a bit busy for a while... Only about four years until she can start playing with LEGO; earlier for Duplo!
  5. Nightstalker, sorry to hear that you're taking a break. Study hard, and pop in to take a look around every now and then. Isn't it frustrating when the real world intrudes on our LEGO? Gideon, I'd love to get involved in the Sultans Gate, but realistically I won't be available for it until after the challenge. But we can throw around ideas now. I bought two cups worth of the LBG 1x2 masonry bricks today at the store. Unfortunately no dark tan. I think I know what I'll be using for the challenge B build!
  6. Wow, this is amazing! So many great details. Very cool design also - love the skewed building right of the main gate. Definitely +1 for round walls, snow and ice, and interior design. Will have to look at the sideways rocks a bit more. Hard for me to see right now, as the sun is shining directly in my window... Looks like a lot of SNOT rock work. I was probably expecting something more like this for sideways rocks, but am definitely open to alternatives. You probably could have gotten another half dozen certifications had the rules allowed it!
  7. That's right! Big huge congratulations to Ska and his wife! Hope you had a great day!
  8. I think I missed this because I was down under when you posted it. Really great work! A really realistic wall and tower; some of the best wall-work I've seen here. And it's big too! I make it to be about 30 bricks high to the parapet floor -- that's probably about 38 feet or maybe more. That's pretty high for city walls I think. Glad to know that Petraea is so well defended!
  9. +1 for the trees and the roof. Great build! Wow, looking back on it, the whole Inside Kaliphlin series was fantastic! I think I was busy preparing for our Australia/NZ trip and missed most of these.
  10. +1 - this is a great round MOC. If you get a chance, make sure to experiment with other round wall styles too. (You might have already done so in other builds.) There appear to be a lot of techniques.
  11. +1 for the foliage. Although the photography on this one could use some work.
  12. Same here - +1 for the flowers and foliage; partial credit for the tree.
  13. OK, I changed the advanced placement start date to June 15th. So any build posted to EB on or after June 15th would qualify for advanced placement certifications. That should let you all claim credit for all those nice Inside Kaliphlin builds!
  14. Oops. That's what I get for trying to work and post on EB at the same time. I'm not even clear what the subjects are in the program I designed!
  15. I think there's a bit of flex in that rule. We pulled that number out of thin air anyway. Go ahead
  16. Fair enough. Probably just a some more desert. This is a decent sized build, but the building takes up most of it. You might not be able to easily add on to this one, and I'm not sure you should mess up the really nice irregular edging just to get some more desert into it -- you might be better off doing a new one. The texturing of the sand is nice, as are the scorpions. Maybe adding a bit of desert foliage or rocks? Hard to say. I actually think your Inside Kaliphlin - The Dune Sea is a better desert scene -- the dunescaping on that one is really nice, and the palm tree adds a lot to it.
  17. Yeah, I meant to build that pub. Still working on a design. I don't think an exterior is necessary for interior design. Well, we only really know when it was posted, so I don't think the university can make a rule about when you actually built it. I think we use the posting date. But if you posted it to CC or somewhere else years ago, well then you probably shouldn't use it. The rule is only in there so that the certifications represent your current building capabilities.
  18. +1 for the sand dunes. I'd like to see something with a bit more in it for the desert, as the (great) building occupies most of the space in this one. Yes, it's in a desert, but I don't think it shows enough of the desert to really show mastery of that subject. Sorry if I'm being too tough. It will probably take a while for each of us to figure out our judging style.
  19. I kind of agree. I think the windows are very nice, but tackling a few more styles would be better. You'll probably cover them in another build!
  20. +1 for microscale. Between this and your 'the queen and I will walk now', you've definitely got microscale covered.
  21. +1 for the sideways rocks. The landscape design is good, but I'm not sure it's at the level I'd want for a certification. Perhaps there's just not enough of it. I think you can definitely do better Kai, but I know you also have limited bricks. However, I'd give you a certification for microscale building if you asked for it!
