The real problem is not that they don't connect, but that they literally collide if you try to place them as if they were connected. This is a huge problem, since all it takes are two 1x1 round plates to position even most parts which would normally be too loose as if they were "connected". If there's not a collision in real life, there shouldn't be one in LDD. And for the record, I tried with both the 2x2 plate and 2x2 brick and BOTH worked without any substantial stress on the parts. I didn't test all of these physically (that would take days, given the current state of my collection) but I would certainly expect the majority of them to work without issues.

Yeah, it seems to me that part 15395 turns out to need connectivity with all sorts of parts. The top rim ought to be able to connect to just about any 2x2 part, even square ones. But it seems like connectivity is only programmed for a few round parts. And it's not just a situation where you can float it into place—if connectivity isn't programmed, the rim will interfere with connections between parts. I'm going to try to make a list of parts which ought to be able to connect to the top of 15395. Most of these issues also affect part 2489, which has a similar rim: 2397 (the 2x2 section) 2399 (the front 2x2 square) 2422 2460 2622 (the front 2x2 square) 2680 (the center 2x2 square) 2904 2972 (the twelve 2x2 squares) 3003 3022 3039 3043 3045 3046 3068 3176 3300 3678 3685 3688 3729 3730 3787 3788 3956 (both the vertical and horizontal sections) 3961 4151 (the center 2x2 square) 4285 4598 (the vertical section) 4729 4858 (the front 2x2 square) 6032 6153 (the front 2x2 square) 6216 (the center 2x2 square) 6219 (the four 2x2 squares) 6232 15456 15647 17114 30000 30033 30094 30145 30151 30165 30389 30390 30499 30592 (the center 2x2 square) 40902 41751 (the front 2x2 square) 43713 43719 44375 45705 (the front 2x2 square) 47407 (the front 2x2 square) 48183 48933 (the front 2x2 square) 50990 51739 57908 57909 62712 63082 75341 75937 (this connection is used in the upcoming Exo-Suit, which is what led me to realize the extent of the issue) 87580 90194 92013 92582 93348 (the front 2x2 square) 93606 (the front 2x2 square) 94148 94531 (the front 2x2 square) 98284 99206 This is far from a a complete list. I only have time now to check categories up through modified plates (the plate with clip category) and even then I may have missed some. As you can see, this is a wide-ranging issue. I hope for this sort of connectivity to be added in future updates.

Probably for completion's sake. After all, if a kid in the U.S. gets one of these (even as a gift), they might want access to things like instructions, which are linked from product pages.

This is one of the stupidest posts I've seen on this topic. Firstly, it's bizarre that you think this is "a set made by men for women" since, like ALL Ideas/Cuusoo sets, it is based on a user-submitted idea—in this case, a design made BY a female scientist who wanted to see more people like her represented in sets. The final set is not significantly different from her proposal, so this isn't at all a case of patronizing men deciding they know what women want in a set—unless you're alleging that the majority of supporters on Cuusoo were closet sexists. Secondly, there's nothing wrong with a set that includes all male figures OR a set that includes all female figures, especially for a small set with three figures each (after all, if you pick three names from a hat with an equal number of men and women, it's not even that unlikely that you'd end up with three of one or the other). What IS wrong is that there are so many sets with all male figures in so many of Lego's themes, yet outside of the Friends theme a set with three women and no men is practically unheard of. This set does a great job of starting to correct that imbalance.

closing books in LDD
Lyichir replied to Razelquin's topic in Digital LEGO: Tools, Techniques, and Projects
A similar issue affects the laptop element (62698). That one's even trickier than the book, since while a closed book is almost always more functional than an open one, the laptop is likely to be used in MOCs in a position that is neither 100% open (as it currently is) nor 100% closed (which would be pretty limited functionally). I imagine most MOCs would involve the laptop to be open around 90 degrees (as it would be if it were a real laptop that was in use), so perhaps in a future update they could adjust that accordingly. -
Actually, the project creator applauded the use of those "sweater-like" torsos in her review since she had wanted to convey that most scientists wear casual clothing unless they're doing lab work (like the chemist, who does have a unique lab coat print). I don't have a problem with the torsos themselves at all, save that most current City builders probably have plenty of those torsos already.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion

I loved that piece too, but I have so many... if the piece was ever remolded for the CMFs, I'd hope for it in a new color. Perhaps Reddish Brown, or Dark Red?- 1,109 replies

Review Review: 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!
Lyichir replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
One idea I recently had for a Classic Space-esque set would be something in the Juniors theme. The new 1x6x6 wall with window elements could work relatively well in an update of 493 Space Command Center, and the large chassis element would not be totally unsuited to some type of Lunar Rover (especially if done in Medium Stone Grey with Bright Red wheels). A set aimed at young builders would be more likely to sell without the focus on conflict found in most modern sets. And the Batman Juniors set, with its '60s TV show aesthetic, sets a precedent for Juniors sets offering simple and colorful builds to appeal to kids and retro styling to appeal to adults. Of course, the simplicity and "juniorization" inherent to the Juniors theme, which I personally don't have a problem with, would almost certainly be a deal breaker for any spacers who were already dissatisfied with Benny's Spaceship.- 228 replies

The Hurricane Heist is not my favorite of the Ultra Agents sets in part because it's practically the antithesis of what I loved about the previous Agents theme (and some sets in this theme). Yes, it has fantastic functions, but they're spread out over a huge model. My favorite thing about the previous Agents theme was how many functions and details were crammed into the sets. Yes, they were out-of-scale with Lego City vehicles, but not an inch went to waste. The Hurricane Heist is a fantastic-looking set, and huge but so much of its size is underutilized, and that's just not what I personally want in an Agents set.

Yes they have. The fourth series of Lego Star Wars Planets was never released in the U.S. either.

Found a new part error, and it's a doozy. Part 15706's geometry is completely wrong—specifically, the longer cross-bar between the two angled plates is far too wide. It prevents bricks and plates being attached between the angled plates, as in this pic. I checked and the connection would work in real life, and it is used in set 70728 Battle for Ninjago City (Step 7 of instruction booklet 1).
-
Out of curiosity, what software did you use to render that? I love how it looks—clean and bold, like an image from an instruction booklet.

I think in general you've made some improvements. I especially like the tail. A few issues I see: firstly, his torso is more filled out but much less shapely. The use of the gold "tail end" pieces makes the whole thing look boxy, as opposed to the thin-waisted look of the torso shell on its own. Secondly, I think you may have gone a little overboard on the back armor. The trans. neon orange shells create an unsightly bulge in the upper back, and the flame shell detail from Hero Factory looks unsightly and its opaque nature doesn't match any of the other flame details on the figure.

Yeah, seeing as the winter wave was only released three months ago (at least in the U.S.), I think it's a bit too soon to expect the summer sets. August (the traditional release period for summer sets) seems likely.

That's not even getting into the little impulse polybags you typically see at checkout counters. You'll find many of Lego's best-selling themes such as Super Heroes, City, Legends of Chima, and Star Wars represented in sets that generally cost less than $5.

Am I the only one who really, really likes this guy's color scheme? I would never have expected it to look so good, but it does. It has just enough Earth Green to make it unique and the Tr. Fl. Reddish Orange and Warm Gold really make him pop! The only thing I'm slightly skeptical about is the Olive Green lower jaw, but even it doesn't look too bad. I certainly like this one a lot more than Chi Panthar. While Panthar's build is slightly unique (though no more so than Cragger), his color scheme is Boring with a capital B.

He looks amazing! Have you considered building busts of any of the other Endless? I'd love to see your take on Delirium!

Review Review: 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!
Lyichir replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
There are a couple issues with that, though. Firstly, those reissued sets did not really resemble the originals perfectly. Many of the older colors and parts from those sets had been discontinued. This limited their appeal even to AFOLs, which was a problem because secondly, the sales of those reissues were generally awful. Kids didn't want them because they were not as good as modern sets, and adults didn't want them because they were inauthentic. Keep in mind the time those sets were released, too. Lego was struggling and desperate to find a hit. The Lego Legends sets (as they were called) were just one of the many failed experiments from that time period, which included other "winners" like Galidor, Jack Stone, and World City. Today, when Lego practically prints money with highly successful themes like The Lego Movie, City, Friends, and Ninjago, what would they have to gain by rereleasing sets from decades ago?- 228 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 12 Rumours and Discussion
Lyichir replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
To me it looks like he might have some bulky handheld systems shoved in his pockets, like the original Game Boy, PSP, or Nintendo DS. Although that may just be from my experience as primarily a handheld gamer! Unlike a lot of commenters, I'm fine with the printed tile as a gamepad, since really even a new mold would probably be insufficient—it'd be hard (maybe impossible) to do a realistically-sized controller that can be held with two hands, given a minifigure's limited poseability. Love the other figs too. The swashbuckler's pretty much exactly what I wanted him to be (hat, rapier and open, flowy shirt). The Space Miner looks great although he doesn't seem to draw from either M-Tron or Rock Raiders like I hoped. Dino Tracker looks great, too—I didn't expect a female fig but I think it's better this way. Battle Goddess is awesome, and I love the skirt and the sandals. And finally, the wizard looks amazing and dispels any doubt I may have held that such a common character type for Lego would have trouble standing out.- 1,109 replies

Lego space guys red, blue.black and yellow
Lyichir replied to Chris1594's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Pretty sure Benny was made in blue to match the color scheme of his ship. That kind of consistent visual language helps viewers, especially those who aren't experts on classic Lego space, to easily identify which creations are associated with which characters (such as on the submarine all of the main characters build). -

I don't think it's realistic to expect a set that hews to every convention of the original Classic Space sets. Most notably because a set like that would probably struggle to sell to adult fans, let alone to today's kids. I do have an appreciation for older sets but with the caveat that they were working with what they had at the time, and in a modern set I would expect a lot more. This set may not be "true Classic Space" by the definitions set by hardcore spacers and that's okay. It's essentially a remix of the CS theme in the same vein as the other zany sets in the Lego Movie theme. And it does a good job of paying tribute to the sets of old (with parts like the geometric yellow windscreens, multidirectional thrusters, ribbed engines, and brick-built robots as well as the many decorations that call to mind those in the original sets) while providing the kinds of action features and unique characters that kids and adult fans of modern themes expect. I can't wait to own this set and in the same vein I'm eager to see what the Cuusoo/Ideas Exo-Suit looks like as a finalized set. But expecting either to be a set that looked like it would fit in perfectly with sets from more than 20 years ago would be setting myself up for disappointment.- 228 replies

I don't think Lego is at significantly more risk of their brand name becoming generic than they were back at the advent of clone brands like Mega Bloks. In fact, Lego has done a lot to keep such a thing from happening, and I think the brand itself is more well-known than ever, thanks in part to their media presence with brands like The Lego Movie or the Lego licensed video games. Sure, people not in the know will call Mega Bloks Lego—but they've been doing that for years, and the people who matter most (Lego's customers) are very picky about getting the real deal. Also, keep in mind that brands like Kleenex, Hoover, and even Sellotape have significant competition in the products they provide. Lego, on the other hand, dominates the building toy market to the point where their main competition isn't "clone brands" but rather large toy companies like Hasbro and Mattel.

The LEGO Movie Sets News and Discussion
Lyichir replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I did look them up on Brickset. And not just in the inventories themselves, since sometimes the same molds in the same color have different element IDs if they've been out of production between set releases. It was more work than I anticipated, and I don't plan on doing that with such a large set again any time soon. But in general I think the Sea Cow IS a good value, even if you intend to use it as a parts pack. Especially if you're lacking for brown hues (the same would apply to this year's Sandcrawler, which I have built on LDD but do not own) or ship parts in general (this set was my family's first pirate ship since the original Pirates theme, so of course parts like the ship hulls and new anchors were fairly new to me). Good luck using it that way if you get it, though—it's a very solid model and I don't think I'd have the heart to disassemble it!- 2,626 replies

It's funny how you and I looked at that picture and got totally opposite impressions of it. I was surprised by how well the smaller and chunkier DeLorean looked next to the Ecto-1, to the point where I did a double take to see if the DeLorean had been modded—but nope, that's the set, and they look great together.
