  1. yeah no, if the instructions are very explicit about placing the diff the right way and not the wrong way, inquisitive minds will reason about why that is anyway. Also, after doing the "mariage" bit on the Chiron, and thinking id balsed up the gearbox (due to an error in my testing method), my first thought wasnt "yay i get to learn something" , it was "holy frack, the way this thing is built, if there is an error in the gearbox it is going to take me hours to fix it, bunch of utter bastards" Also, if lego didnt do fool proof instructions, and the porsche would have been as complex and dificult (no colour coding, just 100 steps in the manual etc) as most die-hards would seem to want, it wouldnt have been such a sales hit with the non AFOL crowd, and we wouldnt have gotten the Bugatti or this lambo. If you want a challenge, wait for something like the inevitable "pimp my lambo" project, use the LXF to colour swap everything to black/dbg, and use the generated instructions, you will end up with a better/fixed model and hating yourself for having to look for 1 specific black piece among 3000 others. On topic of the set, im happy with the colour not being olive green, if it had been, that would have seriously put my purchase into question, especially since all the new parts make colour swapping impossible for now. Furthermore it looks undeniably lambo-like, and its a BIG new technic set, so im game. (might wait for a slightly better price though, and ive got a rather big backlog right now, so no rush)
  2. Even if its technic, it might be the Ducati instead, which launches on june 1st
  3. Lovely! I remember finding an Allied Avenger on a back shelf somewhere over ten years after Blacktron has faded from lego catalogues, and being overjoyed about finding a treasure like that, it still is part of my elite core of space fighters :P (next to Darth Vaders Tie and Obi wans Eta-2) This revamp really does it justice imho, and makes me wonder even more, what if Lego revived some of the classic space themes? Id love some new blacktron II stuff
  4. The haldex a) isnt a torque converter, its just an automatic clutch used to quickly engage the rear wheels when needed b) is only used in small audis like the A/S/RS3 and the TT, which have the engine transversely (and are primarily an FWD car), the proper quattro (A4 and larger) Audis use a different system. Im also not sure what kind of AWD system Lambo normally use, but there is no way they use a haldex.
  5. I disagree with that. I appreciate the movies for what they are, but if i wanted to buy a car as a F&F merch thing, id want a riced out skyline or something similar. This set though, is a pretty decent base for all kinds of modded/tuned charger builds, it is pretty easy to make a stock charger out of it, or go nuts and make it a pro-mod street drag-racer. And i think it has more appeal in that sense then as a F&F thing, because honestly, the franchise isnt about muscle cars, its just that one guy who consistently has them, the rest is exotica
  6. These are some very good pictures, but in terms of review, im not sure reveiwing your first technic set ever is a smart move, you are bound to miss nuances and details which the more experienced technic crowd is interested in. Personally im rather curious about the rear axle, and how the springs connect to it. (Also, i really dont like the "please subscribe" self promotion of your youtube channel in a review)
  7. Given the hoopla after the porsche gearbox mixup, i dont expect them to make that mistake ever again, so i think an in order gearbox is a given :P Either way, im not enthusiastic about land rover green, otherwise im sure itll be a cool set either way, even if it offers nothing new over the Chiron
  8. It doesnt, i think i might have started that speculation, by stating that IF todays announcement was to be something Sian related, the only possibility i see would be an even more limited run Spider version, given that making some special SVJ or whatever version of the regular Sian is not something that would a lot of sense given lambo's patterns. As weve already learned that todays announcement is related to a special huracan, i am fairly sure in the "the lego model will be the normal Sian as we already know it" camp
  9. I dont really see lambo doing some variant of the Sian, the only thing i could see happening is an even more limited edition spider/convertible version of the Sian, but a limited run hypercar like the Sian isnt the sort of thing they will a gazilion specials out of, like with the aventador/huracan. Heck, might even be a special event dedicated just to this lego set, Bugatti had a big joint event with a Chiron on display for the launch of 42083 right? Is june 1st for VIPs confirmed by the way? i was kind of expecting the set somewhere near august, and a 2 month lead for VIPs seems... long. (and june 1st would steal the thunder from 42107, which is licensed by another Audi subsidiary brand, cant imagine Ducati being to happy if Lambo got all the limelights)
  10. The Sian is also the first ever lambo with a hybrid system, i very much doubt lego will do something cool with this considering the size/weight of the thing, but one can hope. I also think the whole chinese block stuff is a bit off topic for this thread (at least the way its going), id say we could have a discussion on how we as a community deal with that stuff (ive seen one or two threads on original CADA stuff, specifically allowed by MODs)
  11. Wow, very nice c model! I was contemplating returning my 39 to stock and selling it, but i might give a c model like this a shot first
  12. Ooooh, this is where things get interesting. I know autocar expect a new variant of some existing car (probably a Huracan SV or whatever), but given that the aventador is 8 years old by now... I would totally love for them to come up with the aventadors succesor, and have that be the lego set. It would make sense for it to include Sian styling elements as well. Bonus points for some reeeeeaaally lamborghini colour like Verde Mantis. EDIT: one could argue that when the 911 GT3RS launched the porsche range topper was that car, but the 918 Spyder (although it ended production in 2015, and probably sold out waaaay before then), meaning that some hardcore GT3/GTE version of the Huracan (which could well be the new introduction next week) wouldnt be entirely out of left field either, although the Sian styled lights in the teaser dont match up with that. Anyway, Lambo HYPE (both for the set and new pretty pictures for my desktop)
  13. @TeamThrifty I agree, i am absolutely not a lego apologist, and i pretty much refuse to buy anything at lego list price these days (and ive sworn off the SW line for pretty much that reason), but the amount of negativity here can be pretty insane, to the point where i feel like reading too much on here is affecting my enjoyment of the hobby. I also feel like people set themselves up for disappointment wayyyy too much. I know the lambo is going to have flaws, just like the porsche and bugatti before it, and if the bugatti shows us anything, it is that lego will try to fix some flaws, and end up creating more problems on the way, so i dont even expect the lambo to do all the things the bugatti does flawlessly. what i do know, is that the lambo will be another terrific looking car, on a level i could only dream of as a kid, and that will look insanely awesome on the shelf next to the porsche and bugatti, and while the internals might not be up to what we all expect from a $400 technic set as AFOLs, but as AFOLs, we can just fix that, which is part of the fun imho
  14. Looks good, i really like the striping One question though, does it come with a fuel pump? :P
  15. Such a compact "everything in the floor" style layout is also pretty usefull in MPVs, one of the reason the original Audi A2 and Mercedes A-class had so much internal space is that everything else was hidden under the floor. Ill bet you that an Audi A2 will stand out more between the other supercar entries then a GT40 :P
  16. @Mechbuilds dont know how you payed, but from what i understand if you use a creditcard, it isnt charged untill the order is shipped out. Either way, i dont deal with lego's shop unless i have to (like the Fiat 500 being S@H exclusive), i find that other webships are often much quicker and cheaper, and have better websites to deal with. At launch it usually takes a while for stock to show up at other sellers, but im fine with waiting a week or so after launch, id rather order it a week later and have it the next day then having to wait for three-four days for lego to get the order to me.
  17. 4 wheel burnouts is why :P (makes me wonder, if you put a Chiron on narrow shitty tyres, how long it could spin all wheels for before either blowing them up, or finally gain traction) But yeah, a locking diff makes no sense on a sport/super/hypercar, torque vectoring is a big thing these days, but that is an entirely different kettle of fish. I am curious to see if Lego will end up doing something with the hybrid component of the Sian, but considering the weight we are looking at, a single electric motor is pointless (well, i guess just as pointless as 34hp is for a real Sian)
  18. Amazing build! I love LMP style cars, and this one looks excellent
  19. And more o the point, the LP 550-2 version wasnt equiped with a spoiler/wing. If you do want to add a spoiler, id suggest a different colour and removing the white stripe.
  20. I suppose you want 25% off on most recent sets as well then, given that they dont have the B-model in the book, but rather online? As @Anio says, B-models are often compromised and look significantly worse then the A-model, i think the last B-model i built was 42036, and that was mainly because i bought a second set out of boredom. I stand by my point, especially for us AFOLs with internet access and community awareness, the C-models you find online are almost always better then official B-models (people didnt take very kindly to 42082s B-model for instance, yet there are excellent C-models), and more then allow you to rebuild a set endlessly, if that is your thing. 42108 is an odd one though, it is a type of set for which i think Lego would normally release a B-model, it doesnt have a license to hide behind. That said, the A-model is already somewhat questionable, not sure if the B-model would save it in the eyes of the AFOL community.
  21. Looks very cool @Thirdwigg, im getting more of a radical/saker kitcar/tracktoy vibe of it then a true LMP, but that is an absolute plus in my opinion, the small-ish scale of this contest i think is better suited to stylistiscly simple and elegant cars rather then the wing-fests that modern LMPs have become. EDIT: or an Ultima!
  22. Personally, as exstatic i was to unwrap 8880 as a kid, i am firmly in the "the world has moved on" camp on it. It was the pinacle of technic in its day, but it doesnt compare in anyway to a Chiron. If we take both out of context and erase nostalgia, the only thing even 8880 even remotely has a leg up on, are the design flaws on the Chiron (gear slack and soft suspension). I have 42056 and 42083 proudly displayed in my living room, i simply cant contemplate putting my old 8880 next to it, The generic look of it is even worse then the dated construction. Some sets back then were obvious some specific car, take 8440, that is pretty much 1:1 a Ferrari F1 car of the era, and imho, has aged well. 8880 by contrast is a decent showcase of technology, but falls completely flat on the aesthetic appeal these days. I think technic obiously has a place for generic sets, stuff like 42042 and some of the simpler motorbikes and smaller vehicles work perfectly well as generics, but the mid-large sets like 42039 and 42077 fall into this really uncomfortable gap of not looking very good, and not having the functions to back up the price either, and i think a set like the F&F charger is much more interesting both visually and technically (not to mention specific appeal to muscle car fans) then the similarly priced 42077. As for B-models, i mentioned the community before, and the more i think about it, the more that thought gains ground in my head. Compare the B-models of TLC to the efforts by the community. Off course not every set gets the C-model love, and i think B-models for smaller sets should remain in place (all the sub $50 stuff primarily targetted at younger builders), but for sets which will be a big hit in the community for modificating etc.. (like 42056, 42111, 42083), i really dont think anyone is missing out by not having official B-models.
  23. Yup, lego is definitely cottoning on to the fact that licenses sell, lego SW pretty much saved the company, and stuff like the UCS Porsche has gotten masses of non-technic fans to buy the stuff. And indeed, if it werent for licenses, we never would have seen stuff like the GT3RS, Chiron or Panigale. There is no way a $400 generic lego styled car would have sold anywhere near as well, never mind well enough to keep doing them every two years. And instead of the Panigale we would have probably gotten another $30-40 low piece count iteration on either the generic dirt-bike or generic race bike theme. The lack of B-models is a thing, but on the other hand, B-models were a thing born in times when internet wasnt a thing, so those lego booklets was all we had in terms of options short of going full-blown MOC. Today, just look at the alt builds the community came up with for the GT3RS: https://rebrickable.com/sets/42056-1/porsche-911-gt3-rs/?inventory=1#alt_builds Everything from a Vintage Beetle to an F1 car, a Lancia Stratos etc......
  24. Makes me wonder how many extra Chirons bugatti has sold because of 42083 :P (yes i know, 0, because they were a limited run which sold out instantly etc..)
  25. I dont see NCs often, so im not sure how those are proportion wise, but in my head an MX-5 has a significantly longer nose than trunk, the proportions on this suggest porsche boxster to me (famous for looking pretty much the same from front and back)
