  1. a few degrees can be very helpful for improving cornering performance, depending on the car, but stance levels is indeed a pure negative in terms of performance OP, i love the idea, but the angle is just a bit too silly, and not being able to roll kind of ruins the whole thing for me, maybe some flared wheel arches could fix that? (or see if you can reduce the camber, maybe see if you can extend the bottom arms by half a stud rather then a whole stud)
  2. There should be solutions like that to the problem, real life drag racers use some fluid (combo of water and some solvent, maybe petrol/ethanol) to allow for easy burnouts pre-race to heat up the tires. If you are concerned with your kid playing with dusty lego tires, putting anything chemical near them would be my last suggestion though Anything that hardens the rubber should make it less grippy, but i fear that any such treatment would damage the tires, and potentially not last as long Chinese clone products are probably the easiest bet here, they use harder rubber
  3. Well, at least those grey rectangle panels will be plentiful and cheap on bricklink The rest of it is utterly pointless, i really think this year's H1 wave is terribly flimsy, everything but the first responder is just a poor set imho
  4. Has that been confirmed? The GT3RS has 7+R in real life as well, yet we got 4 wrong order, wrap around gears with a nonsense F-R switch Given how the porsche turned out, i will assume the worst about the technic underpinnings of the bugatti until officially confirmed otherwise.
  5. Im negative because the porsche sorely dissapointed, the real car has tons of cool features/distinctive qualities, which TLC either omitted or completely butchered. The paddle shift might be nice, but the gearbox behind it is poorly designed and well below par when AFOLs were building 7+r speed sequential boxes years before the porsche came about. Im a big car guy, and it annoys me very much to see lego come out with huge expensive sets they label "Ultimate", only to see them get the interesting technical bits completely wrong. Seeing the Chiron, i can only assume they will again come up with a sub-par gearbox and build an engine that only resembles the real thing in terms of cylinder count, and then trying to justify the pricetag with inflated part counts. this Ultimate line should be Lego rising to the level of expert MOCers, if they want to do style over substance, that should belong in either expert creator, or a revived model team theme.
  6. I am extremely sceptical when it comes to authenticity after seeing how the porsche turned out, the engine mock ups in the video pretty much guarantee either some weird multi-crank layout or completely wrong timing on the cylinders and a weird multilink driveshaft. The real Chiron also has a 7 speed gearbox, which im not expecting out of lego. And with a €370 pricetag (which im expecting to end up at €400 or 410 over here), this will be an easy pass.
  7. Cool, any pics of how you did it? When first news of a technic rally car was breaking i was really hoping they'd include AWD, to me a non AWD rally car makes 0 sense, especially with modern stylinh
  8. about 10 years back there were some mid size cars, ive got an fxx and f430, building techniques might have improved, but back then the detail level was rather lacking, and the 430 looks far too boxy for what it should be last years turbo track racer from the creator line was a cool car, but im not sure making a proper licensed model that size/part count would look good compared to for instance the stunning f40 id buy them anyway though, lego cars are my weak spot
  9. if this is a flat track with just one straight jump, there is no need for suspension, esp on a 1kg car, no need for complicated axles and sway bars, just use rigid axles and keep the weight as low to the ground as you can, if you need to absorb the bump from the jump, id suggest large sidewall tires, generally speaking those will be just as effective as lego springs, which are really hard to set up properly
  10. My thoughts: The 911 Turbo uses simple 1x1 studded plates for the bumper holders, looks absolutely weird and not SC-like, the ducktail spoiler also looks rather thick for what it should be., im digging the brick built headlights though, brick built detail trumps stickers every day. The mustang will probably go sticker-less for me, the logos on the hood make it unbelievable as a real historic race car, and the racing stickers dont seem to have any essential details on them, although the white banner on the door seems to be part brick, part sticker... The 488GT3 looks good, the nose is a good bit longer then on eht 458GT2, so im wondering how the side profile looks, but the build looks good so far, theyve even included some green to match the mirrors on the real #63 car, but the black on the side skirts and spoilers should have been purple: The 919, what can i say? Im stoked to get another LMP1 car, if lego includes alternate stickers for a #1 and #3, i would be sorely tempted to buy multiples (same goes for the 488GT3) The Ferrari garage, im quite puzzled by the 488GTE, two 488s, especially so close in versions in seperate sets just seems weird, and to me it just doesnt have the same status as the 250GTO and 312T4, but i will happily add it to the lineup, the 488, 911 RSR and last years Ford GT will make for an awesome le-mans GTE display. The Ferrari garage is also the absolute first time im tempted to display the decor pieces in a SC set, i might end up integrating all my SC Ferrari cars and this set into one big display This is going to be a wallet-hurter though, its the first time im pretty sure ill buy every set in the wave, ive skipped the big €80-100 sets before, but three kick megablocks ferraris is too much for me to resist, considering dutch pricing ill probably be dropping €220-240 unless im really patient.
  11. On a different note, Jang has a review up on 42077, and for me that is the first time seeing the A model in a video. I must say im quite dissapointed (again..), the proportions are off, the construction looks super flimsy in places, and realism wise it is just all wrong, not to mention the lack of features for a €99 set. If i end up getting it, ill be building the Can-am porsche C-model straight away, the A-model is weak at best.
  12. I think motorizing 42077 should be quite simple, from what ive seen there is a ton of empty space underneath the fake engine directly in front of the diff, bolting an L motor in there is probably quite easy. Intercepting the steering axle at some point and putting a servo on it (probably between the seats in the cabin) shouldnt be hard either, then it is just a matter of putting the receiver and battery box somewhere and routing some cables. In terms of mods, im much more interest to see if the space under the engine could hold a gearbox, even a simple 2 speed box with a sequential style shifter between the seats would improve the set greatly imho
  13. I received and built mine last night I really enjoyed building it, the build feels well spread out, and contrary to some other sets it is not a case of building the functions first, and then only cosmetics, so the process is interesting throughout. The parts selection is quite interesting, three frames, two dogbones, a diff, a shock, a decent selection of panels and some (in my book) relatively rare pins/connectors, many of which in red, a good amount of gears, some engine parts etc... So as a parts pack the set works quite well too. The truck itself is a nice and complete looking design, the engine bay is quite interesting, and the way the engine drops in feels much more authentic then how in most technic sets the engine is pretty much part of the chassis.
  14. Lets not get into baseless speculation again, Lego has licensing ties with Ferrari (which might extend to Fiat, Alfa and Maserati), Ford, GM (with at least chevrolet and corvette included), VAG (VW, Audi, Porsche, Bugatti and Lambo have models, Skoda, Seat, Bentley, Ducati might be included), BMW (which could include Rolls Royce), Mercedes, Renault (no released product, but Ltd sets) and McLaren, and im not even sure that is all of them Even if we knew 100% sure 42083 is a "supercar" from an existing license, and we are assuming only models currently in production, that probably gives at least 50 options
  15. and this is all ineffective against copy cats anyway, the lepin sets might be delayed a week, but that means nothing to people who are okay with lepin, they arent going to pay three times the price for avoiding a short wait if lego wants to combat lepin, either up your own game (tackle shortages, improve product quality etc), or go to court the video game market has shown that more secrecy and better drm doesnt stop the pirates when shipping your product involves handing over the design/data
  16. what is the point of inviting press and not allowing them to talk about it? might as well just cancel the event alltogether
  17. thanks for the review! after feeling let down by 77, im actually most excited about this set this wave, it is small, but has a good amount of features, and looks quite good, with ample room for modding my set should tomorrow, i look forward to building it
  18. i love that! the pics look better then the a or b models!
  19. Lego still sell it on their own website though...
  20. That is quite quick, only 1 year
  21. some sets feel more like "wed like to make it interesting, but the accountant said im only allowed one diff"
  22. agreed, they wont actively sell unfinished sets, but keeping modability/expandability in mind for AFOLs should be part of every technic design it plays a big part in my buying decisions, and is part of the reason i am on the fence about 77, there are more then enough features that can be modded in, but if i would need to rebuild both axles, driveline and probably the entire chassis, what is the point of even starting with that set?
  23. agreed on 42075, just ordered one from amazon.de, while im still very much on the fence about 77, even at a 25% discount, i just cant shake the feeling that set is a let down meanwhile 75 offers decent features out of the box, and plenty chances for improvement without corrupting the base of the model, i look forward to squeezing a flat four in, and modding the rear to a pickup bed, perhaps even RCing it
  24. personally i couldnt care less about the 911 as a car, im a big car fan, but the 911 just screams form over function to me, to the point where they stick with putting the damn engine in the wrong place for over 40 years for marketing purposes. As for the rumored new super car, nothing would make me happier then a proper ferrari, and i mean proper, as in as big as the GT3 RS, but with its features properly working, and realistic. Ive got the old Enzo on display in my living room, and it kind of annoys me that it doesnt have proper suspension on a gearbox, which is easily doable in a car that size.
  25. Ah man... Ive got a gift card for a local online retailer, but they dont even list it yet, and itll probably be MSRP for the first while... On the subject of the H1 sets, does anyone know why there are hardly any reviews out? This time last year, either Jim, Sariel or other had written reviews on this forum, and there were tons of youtube reviews out, this year, hardly a peep
