LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
x105Black replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'll add Clouse to that list. I liked the minifigure, but had no interest in the set. Although, it also comes with a Titanium Ninja, and that's pretty cool. -
Future Marvel Superheroes Rumors & Speculation
x105Black replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
Considering the fact that Nexo Knights is replacing standard Castle themes for the time being, I'd be in favor of some Thor sets. -
The computer is Merlok 2.0, but it's clearly a 3 dimensional translucent hologram. That's what a Merlok 2.0 minifigure should be. That flag is supposed to represent Merlok 2.0, but it's certainly not a minifigure.

Of course it's fake. He listed some sets as Mid 2016, and others as Summer 2016. Those happen at the same time for the northern hemisphere. Looks great. I see lots of useful pieces. I do hope we get Luke in Episode 7 sets. I couldn't imagine Star Wars without him.

What should or should not be on Lego Ideas?
x105Black replied to Wodanis's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That original Minecraft idea was also submitted by the creator of Minecraft if I'm not mistaken, so I'm sure that helped. So if you're the creator of a popular IP, you may be able to get away with a less than stellar set on LEGO Ideas. -
2 great points. The alternate builds was something I missed when I came back from my Dark Ages. I was looking all over the box and instruction manual for those pictures! If they really did get complaints, they could do what they did for the Friends animal sets, put them online. Heck, they even had instructions for combining multiple sets.

I thought the mark on his face was some kind of manga thing, and the brown stuff on his shirt is definitely grime. Fresh cuts are one thing, but I thought we were looking for actual blood that has exited the body, not just red marks and scratches. Flash Turbo, definitely blood.

Lego themes that we would like to happen
x105Black replied to YellowCorvette's topic in General LEGO Discussion
The Exo-Suit was a great set, and a great start to a return to Classic Space. Along with some of the Space themed CMFs, I could see a really nice Space theme taking shape. Star Wars wills all of my Space needs, but to be honest, I usually repurpose all of into Castle stuff. And it really doesn't have that Classic Space vibe. By that, I mean the old Space logo you see on Benny's chest, and Blacktron.- 451 replies

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
x105Black replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I would expect it to be a lot like the LEGO Batmanâ„¢ video game. Set in the same LEGO Batmanâ„¢ universe. But maybe you're right. That might be cool, but I don't think it's likely. -
I'm hoping that Jestro wins, and knocks out their tech, leaving it an actual medieval fantasy Castle theme. Wishful thinking, to be sure.

This is a gorgeous castle, even if it is the Lions. I love the varying terrain height! The statue over the main gate is a great touch, and the civilian buildings help flesh it out into something truly special. Great work! It's certainly something to be proud of.

Wolfpack may have only had 3 sets, but they existed in more than that. They were in, for example, Dragon Masters sets. Forestmen were also included in Crusaders sets. So while they may have seemed small, they were integrated into the larger story. No Castle theme since Fantasy Era has really been large enough to support more than two factions, which means they need to do a Castle theme that's large enough to support more than two factions. I would really love to see it, and I would likely buy all of the sets in such a theme if it were done well. The Forestmen and Wolfpack could simply be peripheral to the main factions sets, or hopefully fleshed out a bit more than they were in the past with their own sets, perhaps in a second wave. I get what you mean about themes not lasting as long as they used to, but with a few waves spread over a couple of years I see no reason it couldn't be done. And if you had to align them, I always felt that Forestmen were on the "good" side, and Wolfpack were on the "evil" side. Named characters could definitely exist within the Castle theme, but while you are drawn to them, I usually react in the opposite way. What I loved about the early Castle sets was the freedom to make my own characters and tell my own stories. Named characters usually come with elements that are hard to use. I found I didn't like a lot of Chima torsos based entirely on the fact that they had blue marks on their chests that didn't match the color scheme. But I will say that having more individual characters in general allows for a lot more diversity in minifigures, a lot more opportunities to make them my own. For example, I really like Clouse from Ninjago. Also, my friend recently scoffed at the fact that I replaced the metal arm on the Winter Soldier polybag figure with a black one, and gave him the classic Castle helmet with neck protector in black, but that's what minifigures are for me. While it would be cool for Nexo Knights fans to get future Forestmen, it wouldn't help me at all. And Dragon Masters were OK. A little newer to me, and they felt a bit gimmicky with a lot of yellow dragon printing on pieces (Majisto's Tower), very colorful knights, and the strange new helmet and dragon plume designs. I much preferred the Black Knights, which not only had better designs, but also came out when I was in the target age range. I actually had Majisto's Magical Workshop, among others, and I agree that the design of that set is strong. These were some of the last sets I got before I entered my Dark Ages, and I think those gimmicky elements helped to push me out. By Royal Knights, I was already in my Dark Ages. In my mid teens, I was much more interested in girls than LEGO, and was spending more money on music than anything else. I wish I had stayed around for it, though, as some of those castles look really nice. I am not really a fan of Fright Knights. Once again, gimmicky.

Future Marvel Superheroes Rumors & Speculation
x105Black replied to Sir Gareth's topic in LEGO Licensed
If FF are indeed coming back to Marvel, and they plan to make LEGO sets, all I care about is a rad Galactus, and a Chrome Silver Surfer. I want them so bad. -
Said this in another thread, but a Jim Henson license would be great. The Muppet Show, Sesame Street, and Fraggle Rock would be popular, at least as far as minifigures are concerned, but there are also iconic locations to build. Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal would be fantastic, appealing to the nostalgia of AFOLs, while creating interesting sets for kids (and hopefully kindling within them an interest in these wonderful classic family films). I'm also going to say one that I imagine will never happen, but it's definitely a dream license for me: Dragonlance.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
x105Black replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I would be really surprised if this doesn't get a series. And disappointed. It's also the only one of the 3 that I would expect to see. And hope for. -
There was indeed grey, I was mistaken, but it was not used extensively at the time. Tanks and war machines? Like Fortrex? It's not even the dark browns, greys, or greens that I'm interested in. I can buy bricks in a multitude of colors to suit my fancy. It's mostly the minifigures, to be honest. And Lord of the Rings did a great job on the minifigures, the colors are superb. Dark Red, Dark Blue, and Purple (LEGO calls it Medium Lilac, I'd like to see a Dark Lilac), as well as "Sand" colors are the ones I'm really hoping to see in sets, and primarily on minifigures. I'm not drawn to brightly colored sets, my favorite childhood themes were Castle, and the Black and Grey castles of old are amazing, even if they could have been better. And bricks and techniques exist now to make sets like that much better. My favorite themes today are Lord of the Rings / Hobbit, Superheroes, and Star Wars, all of which use dark colors frequently. Even recent Ninjago sets have gotten darker, which increases their appeal to me. I just don't like the color combinations they use. Wolfpack and Forestmen are probably less interesting to someone like you who was never into them to begin with. Those were my favorites when I was younger because they offered something different in a Castle theme from the typical King and Knight combination. While it's true that they are smaller factions, I don't think that they couldn't be supported. They could easily accompany another larger faction (or 3). There are many here who crave a Castle theme with Elves, which are arguably a lot like the Forestmen. LOTR / Hobbit sets with Elves were very popular, as were the CMF Forestman, Elf, and Forest Maiden. I'd say there's an audience to support that. Black Falcons would be another great faction to see again, the knight in the Kingdoms Joust was well received. I can absolutely BrickLink bricks, if that's what I'm looking for. And I do. But new Castle sets bring new minifigures, shields, armor, barding, flags, and other such things that cannot be bought because they do not exist yet. That's a major draw to a new Castle theme for me.

Old sets were a product of their times. Dark colors didn't exist yet. I would have loved Dark Green Forestmen, Dark Blue Falcons, and Dark Red or Dark Brown Wolfpack a whole lot more than what we had in the 80's and 90's. Those colors are available now, so they should be used. I swapped out the arms on my 2013 Dragon Knights for Dark Red, and they look so much better. They should be that way in the box. The 375 Yellow Castle was the first castle ever in LEGO, and the colors back then were even more limited. There was no grey, otherwise I bet it would have been grey. Speaking of that castle set though, I would love to see a future theme explore those old unused factions again. It's all patterns and designs rather than animal logos. It would be really cool.

I appreciate this thoughtful post. It's much more professional in tone. I understand that you designers are people, and that reading such harsh criticisms can be frustrating after you've spent so long working on a theme. Glad you had a good time at the Comic-Con. I have been pretty blunt about my feelings on these sets, which mostly stem from the fact that I am a classic Castle fan. That's why it's a lot of disappointment, and at times contempt. It is indeed a radical departure, and it really doesn't offer much that I would find useful in a traditional Castle setting. Everything is so silly, very bright and colorful, and very science fiction. I'll also agree with another post above that it was a one-two punch to Castle fans between Elves and Nexo Knights. Both times we expected something we would love, and both times we were completely let down. But to be completely honest with you, if I put aside my feelings about traditional medieval fantasy, I actually think you all did a nice job on these sets. So far, for what it is, I think you've done a great job doing what you set out to do. For a cyber-castle theme, it's a pretty strong one. It looks like a futuristic version of classic Castle, a hybrid of Castle and Space. It is a refreshing twist, just not the twist most of us were hoping to see. But while I may not agree with the direction on this theme, I can still appreciate the work you've put into it, and I can appreciate the overall look and feel of a new type of theme. I also understand that this type of theme (and virtually all LEGO) is aimed at a much more youthful audience than us AFOLs. I can see a lot of small boys enjoying these sets. I'd like to see this theme get progressively darker, I think that would add a lot more value to adult fans. I like the little touches and homages to the classic Castle era. I love the fact that you used updated versions of classic heraldry. Lots of really cool parts and techniques are present. I will actually be purchasing at least a couple of these sets. More likely to purchase the villains in this theme, as they seem to be more versatile in a medieval setting, but I'm not going to shy away from the cyber-knights entirely. I'll likely give more opinions when I see these sets in person. I look forward to seeing what kind of brilliant ideas come out of the next Castle theme after this resting period, and I hope it doesn't take too long. I can see why you were a designer on this theme. It definitely fits your futuristic aesthetic, and it's something you're talented at building. I'm guessing you had a hand in designing that mech, which looks really nice. I might get that one to stand next to my golden ninja mech. But I've also seen some of your Castle creations, and I won't argue that you don't know what traditional Castle fans want. You've done a great job in that department already, and I'm sure you'll do some good things when the time comes. I'll try to do my part with some MOCs in the meantime. I'm really eager to see some specific things, but we'll leave that for another discussion. For now, I just wanted to respond to your more reasoned post with one of my own. Thanks for taking the time to discuss this with us.

I can't BrickLink parts that don't exist. New armor styles, new shields, new minifigures, etc. I'll enjoy Nexo Knights to the degree that I am capable of enjoying Sci-fi Castle sets. I will likely buy a couple sets. But I still want traditional medieval fantasy castle sets.
