Technic 2018 Set Discussion
Ngoc Nguyen replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I do think there is a new valve. Look closely at the vertical sticker. There are two black circle, with arrows pointing at different directions. The upper black circle has an arrow on bottom right, while the lower black circle has an arrow on the top right. The image under the upper black circle shows two grabber claws opening, while the image under the lower black circle shows them closing. So it's definitely a control knob for a valve. The LBG part that it connects to looks pretty unusual, so I think it is a new valve. The valve in the picture is mounted like this o - - - - - x - - - o There are two pin holes, 3 studs apart, denoted by the "o". The "x" stands for the axle hole that the knob goes through. We can also see the axle that goes through the knob is in Dark Reddish Brown. This can only be a 5L with stop. This also means there is another knob on the other side for raising the crane arm. And also means there are no valves in the back. -

@vectormatic We'd like to make this more interesting, but the licensing partner only allow one steering axle. -

Remaining parts after building the 42078 B model, credit to @kbalage But there are some parts in the picture that aren't included in the set, like the two worm gears or the spare 24z gear. -

They have never been straight. The axle holes are aligned on a line, but the connector is a frustum (pyramid with top chopped off) rather than a right cylinder. In other words one end is wider than another. -

There's one thing I haven't been able to understand about this set: The curved panel is 13L long, which means the length between stud holes centers are only 12L. So how can it fit nicely into the build as a hypotenuse? The liftarms that can fit as hypotenuses usually have the length as the whole number plus 1 stud. Like, 6 studs for 3 4 5 triangle, 11 studs for 6 8 10 triangle, or 16 studs for 9 12 15 triangle. -

Doesn't sound likely, 'cause he seems to design 1 or 2 models at most a year. -

Recent releases would be more accurate I think. The Anthem was revealed in Sep 2017, and released by Lego in 2018, The Porsche was revealed in 2015, and release by Lego in 2016. So I think we would just need to look up supercars released this year only. -

Well we can narrow down to the list of brands already appearing in Speed Champions, in decreasing order of appearances. There are 22 sets so far according to brickset. - Ferrari (5) - Mercedes AMG (3) - Porsche (3) - Ford (3) - McLaren (3) - Chevrolet (2) - Audi (2) - Bugatti (1) Porsche and McLaren are out. Bottom three are Chevrolet, Audi, and Bugatti. I've never seen a Bugatti car on the streets in my city. So it's a Bugatti? -

If 42082 B is a reach stacker, and I pray that it is, I'll get 42082 without a second thought. For some unknown reasons I have a particular preference for Forklift and Reach Stacker. The main reasong I bought 42009 is also because of the B model reach stacker. But the 42009 reach stacker is visually appaling, full of gaps, and, this is what I've just learned lately, isn't in the correct scale. It turns out reach stackers are massive, and by massive I mean the wheels are almost as tall as an average adult. It's like the Xerion or Unimog. So a proper Technic reach stacker needs 94.3 tyres not 62.4. 42082 may be the chance for me to get it. Unless TLG pull another B model like that heinous 42070 B.... -

@AVCampos That thing doesnt count because the A model already has a trailer Maybe I should limit my statement into "anything having more than 4 wheels and not having a trailer in the A model will almost get a trailer for the B model" -

I think it's almost a rule that anything having more than 4 wheels will get a trailer for the B model. -

For 42082 imagine BWE 42055 with the arm pointing upward. 42082 superstructure is 21 stud wide, the same as 42055 turret.
