Technic 2018 Set Discussion
Ngoc Nguyen replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Since its B model is a logging truck, and it's supposed to be a Ponsse Scorpion King lookalike, maybe the B model will resemble the Ponsse Buffalo. 8 small wheels, articulated steering, crane arm. Highly likely as a B model candidate. -

The clamp and the blade work simultaneously. The clamps grab and the blade kicks and slices. -

Imagine kicking a ball forward in soccer. That's how the blade in 42080 works. It kicks forward toward the log. -

I dont know about 42004, but 42038 was designed by Aurelien not Markus. And the point was not about Markus designing small models, it's about him putting his signature on a small model. -

By that logic does that mean the BWE is the 3rd version of bucket wheel excavators released by Lego? -

I noticed "MK IV" behind the cabin of the forklift. So it's a creation of Markus I guess. I didn't expect his signature on such a small model though. -

The GIFs make the demonstration of the functions so much easier to follow. Kudos to that- 18 replies

One does not simply build the B model in 4 hours! -
I'd like to present my two small modifications for the B model. 1. Knob for ejector blade. If it is attached as the instruction goes, it is too close to the gas tank. Turning it will rub the thumb against the gas tank, which is something I don't like. Ideally, it just needs to stay another 1/2L from the liftarm for the thumb to operate freely. However, as you can see, it's already near the end of the axle and is braced by a half bush. This axle is a 5L with stop. Moving the half bush inside and moving the knob gear out by 1/2L will make the gear unbraced and tend to fall off. My solution: I used the spare 8L axle with stop and push the knob gear from outside in, like this. The knob gear is now further from the gas tank and is still properly braced. 2. The trash bin If the bin is built like the original design, when the bin is raised and tipped over, the trash inside can fall off the bin before the bin reaches the top opening of the trash tank. If you use the rims as instructed you wont have any problem, but if you want to play with other kinds of trash, like pins or axles or small connectors, you're gonna have a bad time. Shot taken from the review by kbalage (racing brick). You can see blue pins fall off everywhere. My solution: I use the remaining 5x11 DBG panel and the panels #17 and #18 to increase the height of the bin, like this: I tested with axles and pins as trash, and this design seem to work very well. The pins do fall off, but only a few, and they fall directly into the trash tank. So I think this modification is good. The fact that the concave side of the 5x11 panel faces inward also helps. The ridges stop the outflow of the trash pieces. Hope this help !!

Since there's a small panel in LBG in the official photo I'd say the Bugatti will be in LBG. -

@Paul B I started at 11pm, and finished at 11am. That's 12 hours building straight out of the box. -

@Paul B: My second copy of 42078 arrived this morning, so it's perfect timing to answer this question. The general answer is: It's bloody hell frustrating !!! When you build the A model, you only look for a specific part in the bags that bear the number of that stage. While if you build the B model, you will have to look for a lot more bags ! Especially when you have no idea in which stage of the A model that specific part appear. At the time of writing this I'm frantically looking for the second steering wheel for like 30 mins. I know it appears in the bags of the 3rd stage but have not been able to locate it. It's 3 in the morning. I started building at 11 pm. I'm working on the cabin. UPDATE: Bloody hell one steering wheel is in bag 3 and another is in bag 2..... -

I'd like to share some pictures of the mechanism of the B model: That is the bare chassis. The trash container is a separate module. It can be attached and detached with 4 pins and 2 axles. I absolutely love all the tubings behind the cabin so I detach the container frequently. This is the cross section of the trash container. The gear rack beneath the floor controls the ejector blade. The blade is fully folded. The blade is fully stretched. Through some simple but ingenious scissor linkages a small movement of the rack results in a huge movement of the blade. Bottom view of the container and the pins needed to attach it to the chassis. The tail gate is pushed out with a mini LA. Two 4L axles with stop connect the tail gate with the container through the top pins.
