I'm new to Lego trains. I have 2 60052, and my girlfriend has the 60051 and we share a track layout. With as light as the 51 is, it doesn't suffer this problem as much. The 52, whether I'm using the stock rolling stock or my own loads the wheels slip quite easily especially on the flexible track. What are some ways I can improve wheel traction? 1. I've already separated the axles for the unpowered wheels because there are no differentials and it helped a lot with the cornering. 2. I have tried putting regular wheels and the wheels with the rubber on one side of the motor (no differential thing again with cornering) and that only made the overall slipping worse. 3. Tried adding 2 motors to a single engine which seemed to work "ok", but I can imagine it would kill the batteries much faster and requires quite a bit of modifications to the engines. I like having 2 powered engines though. Thanks :)

Growing up, I've always wanted a Lego train, but they were way out of our budget. I would constantly build various train stations (without any tracks, trains, etc) hoping at some point I would get a train. Never did until a few weeks ago. Got 60052.

Great review. I have this set as well, and it has a lot of playability. I do agree with your complaints about the set but nothing that a few simple mods couldn't fix...

I recently acquired a lot of Lego from someone moving for $50. There were some other boxes and stuff as well but it required a 3 day sort to remove all the megabloks, and btr blocks and to give a good cleaning. Once it was said and done, I have a new 18 gallon bin that is only 2 inches short of being *full*. Mostly standard bricks, plates and a handful of incomplete sets. About 45 lb worth (~20kg).

I say "no". Let the end user whether they are kids or adults decide if weapons and violence should be a thing in their Legoverse unless it is specifically for a particular brand (Indiana Jones, Star Wars, etc).

I had recently received many new Lego sets, and after building a number of them, I have done what I always do. MOD them to fit my ideas & Legoverse. Several of these I had before I moved, but my collection was already moved to the new house so I couldn't mod. I'm not as hardcore, so these will only be simple mods compared to the others I've seen. Lets start with the Police Station 60047... Front Back MODS: • I have added an additional floor, and increased capacity to 8 for general population, and 2 solitary cells for a total of 10 prisoners. I have only kept one trap door that is above the garage. • Garage height increased 2 more rows to allow the Prisoner Transporter (60043) could fit in the lower garage. This MOD required some work to be done on the catwalk, as well as offices. • Minor structural improvements to the offices. I added a blue column on the 2st and 2nd floor at the inside corner. • The lower jail floor is the only one where the bars are quick disconnect, rest of the floors' bars are locked in. • Relocated the dish to the top of the prison at the highest point. Clear view of the sky. Also added some minor roof clutter. • Prisoner Transporter (60043) floor has been modified significantly. I did not like how the floor was open, so I cleaned up the floor, and can now fit 3 prisoners in the vehicle. It will be modded again because it gets stuck on the ramp due to the low bottom, but fits with care. I have also locked the bars on the side so they don't fall off. The police Station is the only one I currently have pictures of. I don't have a lot of the pieces that are now more common. My original Lego collection consisted of Lego from the early 80s onwards to some of late 90s. I had only recently gotten back into Lego and like the 6 wide vehicles. I had also bought an 18 gallon bin of Lego from a moving yardsale for $50 (and got another 76 minifigs). Normally I *know* whats in my collection during builds, but not anymore. My collection is minimally sorted. I had also modified the Fire Station (60004) and made garage #2 the same length as #1 to accommodate Fire Truck 60002 which as also been slightly modified. The chief parks outside, or at home. I have the entire new Arctic theme, and have done a handful of light mods to the buildings to make their elevation coloring more matched. That's it for now. I have many other mods. One day I will have a city to place them in, and that's when my old Legoverse will once again live as a Legoverse.

Awesome. This will come in handy! Thanks. Today I just received the 60052, and have 2 sets of the flexi tracks, and another set of switchers. My girlfriend got jealous and ordered the passenger train and station. I'm trying to talk her into a Lego city/setup in the living room.

Definitely agree on the vehicles vs buildings, but I kind of understand why. Even as a kid, I'd love buildings but they were mostly always outside our price range and even then lacked the necessary amenities and were too small for my play. My smallest houses were at least 192 sq studs (8 wide by 24 long 'mobile home'). Because of this, any vehicles I built were large and had living quarters 'built-in' in the vehicle. This caused me to build very FEW large vehicles and tiny cities/towns (4 baseplats). Very few sets survived beyond a couple months. My mom usually got fairly upset when I broke down a model and added it to my collection. I tend to keep sets together as an adult, but even then I cannot get passed the minimally playable buildings. The modular buildings seem a lot more functional to me but I don't own or have built any.

Glad you guys enjoyed it. I was thinking about doing a small series of these. The only reason I chose this 'bad' minifigure was because she matched the picture of a 'wanted' figure that is displayed in the Mobile Police Unit trailer.

A set that brought be back from the dark ages? This was probably in 2012 or so. It was actually a MOC between me and an old time friend when we started talking about Legos. I grabbed my bin from the closet, cracked it open (first time in over a decade), dumped it out and built a big over-sized Technic truck for my minifigure. He sorted my minifigure parts built a minifigure, then a mecha. For my birthday the following year he bought me 4201 Loader and Tipper. At that time we were going to make a spoof stop motion/live action Lego movie inspired by "Action Figure Therapy". It got worse for me when I went to the store at night and bought several sets mainly for the parts but didn't take them apart for the parts... What the heck am I gonna to with some completed Hobbit sets?
-
Kalhiki, that's how I ended up with the bulk of my Lego collection. Received sets as a kid and took them apart after they wore off on me and built other stuff out of them. My mom's way of trying to keep the sets intact was to allow me to display sets only, once I took them apart or modified them too much they belong in the bin when I clean up before bed. Most of my creations didn't fit in the bin anyway and had to be dismantled... Guess that makes me a MOC'er. I remember getting the 1682 Shuttle for Easter one year. That set survived the longest. I cant imagine going through the pile of parts I have now looking for a specific piece to rebuild an old set. You have more patience than I do...

YAHP [Yet another Hello Post] I'm Jerry
MGCJerry replied to MGCJerry's topic in Hello! My name is...
Thanks for the welcome everyone. I'll be having some more stuff to post after we finish our move next weekend and get settled in the new place. Even though my dark-age lasted a decade, much of the Legoverse has been preserved and added into my homebrewed RPG as a primary race. Too much 'work' and imagination has gone into my Legoverse as a kid and teen it to let it die. I need to catch up on the new pieces so I'll also be doing some building in LDD to learn the new pieces. Got lots of new sets in the last couple weeks along with my girlfriend (what we spent total thus far is stupid... But fun) and a lot of those pieces were new to me, especially the technics. -
Love this modern fire station. Great renders and great build. Looking forward to seeing the interior.

This was a great read, I enjoyed reading it. Love how you used separators.

Excellent bus. I prefer the 6 wide vehicles, especially considering before my dark ages vehicles were only 4 and simple. I think 8 is too wide for most, but it would be perfect for a larger vehicle such as this.

Between me and my girlfriend, in the last couple weeks we have bought many new Lego sets, and I was playing around with the completed models and this idea came to mind. I know its terrible, but we found it funny... Great review Rufus. I just got this set (and 4 others) last night, and I definitely agree about 'problems'. The rear is the most bland and I think ti really detracts from the overall model. I will mod my camper at a later date to add something to the rear to make it better. I like eurotrash's approach to the rear of the model as well as Bornin's engine access. I may also move the rear lights one block lower too. Edit I modified my camper last night with purely extra parts, and parts left from "executive build decisions" (deviate from instructions) from the Arctic sets. I added an engine, and put a small ladder on the rear of the camper. It looks much better at this point. My other main collection is at the new house already. I will probably mess with it again after I move.

I wont have access to the video until after I move. The box the video is stored on is disconnected and packed up. I re-read my post, and it sounds like the tardis was scaled to that of a minifigure, which is incorrect. Respective to a minifigure, it was huge, probably about 12" high. Also the video is 570MB.

My first minifigure: post your story
MGCJerry replied to Mr Meleca's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I don't have my first minifigure anymore. Moving a lot as a kid, it got lost along with a bunch of "my guy". I did have my oldest "my guy" before my dark ages, and when I cracked open my Lego bin he was still there. However, his girlfriend is MIA. He has gone through a revision or two the last 2 years... Here he is from just over a year ago. I bought a lot of 60 figures from ebay and reconfigured everyone. The only "original" old is the hair. I've had that hair for as long as I can remember. I had the black & brown version of the long female hair from decades ago, but both those figures are MIA. Right now hes packed into a box because I'm moving in the next couple weeks. I'll take a picture of him after I get settled in, and make him my avatar. Before I changed him recently, he pretty much wore overalls (dungarees) in every iteration (even the red ones at one point) and had the standard head with the black hair. I still have some Ice Planet, shark guys, Old space guys, some old castle guys. 116 figures so far. They need a city to live in... -
A few of my friends are hardcore are Whovians, and at one point he had built a HUGE version (scaled to a minifig of course) of the TARDIS with the moving central thing (I had to do the mechanics for it). We did record a video of him taking it apart so he could rebuild it. I'm sure if this is a actually a thing, he and his girlfriend will go broke, and blame me. Hehehe. Me? Not a fan and never really seen it.

These are great. Amazing how far Lego has come and what people can do with them. I've always told family if something happens to me, I'll just build a Lego replacement. But with the price of Lego vs actual prosthetic, there will probably be the same price. :p
