Eslandola's Colonial Council - Discussion
gedren_y replied to Garmadon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Garmadon's ideas for our internal EGS management system seem reasonable enough. All I was describing was the in-character government. How about I give more details about what I was thinking: The Continental Council (characters controlled for actual government story purposes by the leadership): 12 seats comprised of 3 Royal Family seats and 9 continental province seats. Mostly nobles will sit in their province's seat, but non-nobility can hold seats if elected. The Colonial Council (characters controlled for actual government story purposes by recognized Eslandola members): Number of seats to be determined by the islands' population (number and size of settlements) plus 9 seafarers' seats. Those seafarers' seats would begin by being occupied by (in-character) 2 each for the three TCs with the remaining 3 would go to independent traders. When we determine how many seats the islands get, they would be filled by the people of their region. New settlements that reach a certain point would add seats to this council. The mix of seafarers' representation would be subject to change in a new election, just like the regional seats. The Premier Magistrate (controlled by the leadership): Will be the chief executive, set national policy, and staff the executive branch (Minister of Justice, Minister of Trade, Minister of Defense, the Diplomatic Service, etc). That executive branch staff could take the place of the failed High Council of Trade idea. My initial idea of the electoral college was a bit too complex, so I'm open to election suggestions that preserve the constitutional monarchy model. For our judiciary, I'm open to suggestions. Kai's suggestion on the responsibilities is still the best I've seen. -
Eslandola's Colonial Council - Discussion

@Faladrin What you are referring to is an in-game ranking, but it doesn't really work for an in-character government. This is about story, not about EGS ranking. It looks like people just didn't compete for those positions. I certainly had no interest in them, because I didn't want to spend time writing and building for those roles. I only use the EGS to be part of the MRCA to advance my story. (@Kai NRG beat me to the point, with less explanation.) For my story I created the character Viscount Alexander Doblin, who could conceivably be in the Continental Council. He is a secondary character that I am willing to loan out to others who do the government story work. I have my main characters doing what I want them to do, and have no interest in any responsibilities beyond that. -

Eslandola's Colonial Council - Discussion
gedren_y replied to Garmadon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I was only describing an in-character government election format, trying to strike a balance between a capitalist republic and a constitutional monarchy. I missed the word 'of' after 'addition' in my previous post. The person controlling the character is another matter altogether. I like Kai's format for the responsibilities of the Councils. -
Eslandola's Colonial Council - Discussion
gedren_y replied to Garmadon's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Here are my ideas. ---------------------------------------- For our legislature: I also think the term 'High Council' should be done away with. I think 'Continental Council' works better. That way members could be something other than nobility. There are no noble land holders in the Truachesh lands. The Royal Family should have three seats. 'Colonial Council' works for the new world. Each council should include their regional representatives, but the Colonial Council should also include nine seats for the seafarers. Of those nine seats two each would go to the three major shipping companies, and the remaining three are elected among the independent seafarers. Population density should determine the amount of representation each island gets in the Colonial Council. The Continental Council would control the larger portion of the national treasury, and is responsible for the maintenance of the Navy, and trade monopoly decisions. The Colonial Council would control the exploration destinations, and manage the funding for local infrastructure. National taxation should pass through both councils. Additional regional taxation can be handled locally. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We also need a Premier Magistrate at the head of our executive branch of government. Elected through an electoral college whose votes get portioned by population in regional popular vote, with the addition the Lords Vote. The Lords Vote would include one electoral vote for each noble household, and five electoral votes for the Royal Family. The Premier Magistrate will set diplomatic policy, be the commander-in-chief of our Navy and all continental militias, appoint judges to empty seats in the national judiciary, and be a deciding vote in the Continental Council should there be a tie vote. To remove a Premier Magistrate from office would require a majority vote of the combined legislature. -
LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 16 Rumors and Discussion

We find Lady Valentia Cantoni today in the Corrington Naval Port of King's Harbour. She is here because on her most recent stargazing mission for The Midori Observatory she found an old uisge bottle. That bottle appeared to contain some kind of documents, and was closed with red wax impressed with the Corrington Royal Seal. The suspicious nature of the bottle made Valentia want to get it into some Corrington official's hands as soon as possible. Her intent was to hand the bottle over to the Governor of King's Harbour, but his departure for Quinnsville necessitated Valentia turning it over to a ranking commissioned officer. In this she encountered another problem, none of the Corringtion Fleet Captains would take charge of the bottle. From there she was directed to the barracks for Her Majesty's Winged Cuirassiers, but none of the officers were at the barracks. A stable boy told her that the Captain had gone on patrol, but the First Lieutenant had gotten well dressed to go down to the Royal Swordsmen's Club. All the walking around had made Valentia's feet ache, but she was determined to be properly rid of this bottle. With a deep breath and firm posture, Lady Valentia Cantoni braved the masculine domain of the Royal Swordsmen's Club. She received a number of lewd comments on her passage through, but she finally reached First Lieutenant Anton Martin. A Cuirassier doesn't really look like one without his cuirass, but a sparring match with his old swordmaster would be better received without it. That was First Lieutenant Anton Martin's thinking when he put on his alpha dress uniform, used mainly for Court appearances. He added to that a fine rapier and buckler. It is fortuitous that Anton wanted to impress the old man today. Sergeant Major Jean-Claude deLeau didn't feel the need for a formal uniform today. Yes, he was expecting to meet his former pupil, but having to attend functions with the Governor as his Senior Enlisted Advisor, he was tired of the thing. He met the young officer at the back of the Royal Swordsmen's Club, in front of the door to the wine cellar. Corporal Saul Leon was admiring the two masters of the blade when the lady approached. Lady Cantoni: Excuse me, gentlemen. I have found something that I need to return to Corrington hands. Jean-Claude glared at the lady with the Eslandolan accent. But the two men lowered their blades and gave her their attention. Corporal Leon, having seen the royal seal on the bottle, turned to stand guard over the meeting. Lady Cantoni: I found this on the furthest west island off of La Sombra. Please, will you take it? Anton laid his rapier against the window, and took the bottle carefully. First Lieutenant Martin: Thank you, good lady. Valentia made a hasty retreat before he could examine the bottle. Jean-Claude turned away so that the young officer could examine the bottle's contents. A quick perusal of the parchment shocked Anton. He returned the parchment to the bottle, and attempted to replace the wax without damaging the Royal Seal imprint. First Lieutenant Martin: Sergeant Major, Corporal, will you two come with me to the Governor's office. I need to get this into his strongbox as soon as possible. The men leave at a double quick-time step. It is good that they hurried, because it sounds like someone is coming up the cellar stairs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I did a quick shot this morning when I realized that there wasn't a good view of the full alpha dress uniform I created. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This build is free for Bregir to license as he sees fit. It comes in at 14x16. For the future Corrington additions to this story, First Lieutenant Anton Martin can be used, or not. The Prince Zuko head would be expensive to acquire for such a small thing, that is if you don't already have it. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hope you have enjoyed my little story.

[COR-FB] Her Majesty's Winged Cuirassiers, King's Harbour
gedren_y replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
The use of those yellowed bricks lends a sense of realism to the scene. Would I be correct in assuming these are Corrington Army cavalry, and that they are commanded by a colonel? I ask because the character I have receiving the 'Corrington documents' bottle will likely be the second in command of this unit.- 11 replies

Thanks, guys. I put a lot of thought into my storytelling, so to read that you enjoy it is much appreciated. Lady Valentia Cantoni will be in King's Harbor soon, to turn over the bottle. Whether the Corrington officials reveal its contents or not, will be up to them. Yes, it is a cell phone. I'm limited to natural light, and by outdoor conditions. My platform and backdrop have their own limitations. Additionally, this build couldn't be tilted, so the camera needed to be in some odd positions for some shots. I will try to use a mounting for my cell in the future for the shots I can. Thank you for your advice.

Settlement, King's Harbour, Cocovia, Corrington
gedren_y replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Lady Valentia Cantoni has come across what appears to be sensitive Corrington court documents sealed in an old uisge bottle. This being the closest seat of Corrington officialdom, she will be delivering the bottle here on her way back to Nova Terreli. What this means is I plan to build a small interior scene. Would the Governor appreciate a Royal Swordsmen's Club? This would be free to be licensed by the Governor. I don't have the parts for the Governor, though, so some other official will be receiving the bottle.- 77 replies

This map of the Eslandola claimed island chain known as incorrect map of La Sombra includes some very small notations. The farthest southwest is not a single island, but a grouping of vulcanized granite plumes jutting from the sea floor. Most of these plumes do not even reach above the waves, which makes sailing in this area treacherous. Of the plumes that reach above the waves, a number of them are covered in very porous limestone. The only geologist to study the area, out of Trador, suggests that there may have been a limestone shelf that covered the area at one time. Anecdotal evidence from local tribes people seems to confirm this hypothesis. (full image used with permission by Maxim) Only one of these granite plume islands is of sufficient size that a person may lay comfortably. Here we see Lady Valentia Cantoni, research assistant at the Midori Observatory near Nova Terreli. She is here to observe the Talonid meteor shower. This is a rather lonely assignment, and Valentia wishes she could have joined Solas Midori in Stedor for the Aluthian Pulse, and the Day of Blood celebration. To get to this little spit of an island, Lady Cantoni chartered a whaling vessel out of Trador, then she had to suffer a long dinghy ride because the captain of the vessel wouldn't come near the granite plumes. Having been dropped off well before sunset, Lady Cantoni had quite a wait before the sky lit with meteors. It will be well after sunrise before she will be retrieved. Seen here is an uisge bottle, sixty years old at least, but it has long since been emptied of the fine drink. Something else is now contained within, and it is sealed with wax impressed with the Corrington Royal Seal. (OOC: I'll let the Corrington leadership decide what to do with this.) (An overall shot of the build.) A slightly better view of Lady Valentia Cantoni. You can see here that the area sees a lot of debris from shipwrecks. The crows nest here is believed to be from a Mardier ship. The mast section here is older, having been warped by sun, sea, and time. This looks to be the bottom section of a coat rack. A native spear, a rapier, and that "Corrington" bottle. How they got to their positions is unknown. Common in these parts are those little conical shells, though the pale blue is rarer than most. The remains of some unlucky island native, still holding on to his cudgel, and a butter churn. It would be unwise to open that! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Several more detail shots can be found in this Flickr album. I do apologize for the lack of clarity in some of the images. What do you think?

I have used that very technique that Slegenr describes. Baseplates can also be used in this manner to create ceilings over a large area. Of course they will need structural support, but they can save you from having to use more difficult to remove parts. -
